1:54-1:59 he had it right.

1:59-2:30 he had it very wrong.

Just because something is played quickly, doesn't mean it's not melodic. Besides, Yngwie is certainly not the only guy playing quickly here. By that rationale, you'd have to jump Vai's case, too.

I think you have to look at things in context. Yes, Yngwie could have definitely played slower here and made a real nice melodic statement.
