Sorry but turning the wheel in a gravel pit is ALWAYS a bad idea. There is more injury caused by doing that than by just taking the tire wall impact. Presuming that you build your cars safety first speed second that is. As a former driver and current rescue worker, I cannot tell you how good it was to see that you were okay.
Looks like pad "knock back" probably from a previous corner cold rolled rumble strip. Any time you hit the big black rumbles, check your brakes. You may find the pedal goes to the floor. Pump the full length of the brake pedal travel a few times to snug your pads back up. Same concept as after changing brake pads when they're far from the rotor.
You should have stayed straight, a light car like that would slow down considerably with the gravel, especially as you shouldn't been doing no more than 60mph, if you were doing more than that for the corner you clearly weren't braking anywhere near enough
speedster, at the speed i was going i would have skimmed across the gravel like a boat on water. that would have led to a front end impact which in the end would have cost a lot more. im not saying i planned it that way it just worked out. and yes i had a
were you responsible for the damage, even though the mechanical failure was out of your control? it seems like, given the unusual nature of the failure, it was very good/quick thinking on your part to deploy the handbrake!
Hey Kieran, its cool that this vid came up on recommended for you. nice to know they are getting out there. Yeah im good, fun ride though. see you at the track
how common are miata rollovers? my best friend has a na miata and I just have a hard time believing they are that common. Are they more common to certain types of racing? He does mostly auto-x.
@akaeon they are not common, the right side tires dug into the gravel and that popped the bead, compressed the springs and eventually inertia took over along with that built up spring energy
Ouch! Wondered what hurt worse? The wreck or losing his baby.

Good driving my friend. Hitting that wall with no brakes would've been a bad day.

the car reaches 118mph on that back straight
LeeCarpentier 11 months ago
Probably one of the worst corners on that track to have break failure, what speed do you do after that straight?
Bamtheman0123 11 months ago
He did the correct thing. It's too bad the beading on the tires didn't hold out

Good to hear you're ok, really sucks that happened.

and yes i had to pay for it. nevermind that broken sentence
LeeCarpentier 1 year ago
@LeeCarpentier Whoa, wait. You had to pay because their car suffered a mechanical failure? What kind of bullshit is that?
How much money did they steal from you?

Didn't they teach you to NOT go sideways into the gravel? I can't comprehend why the driver steered.

Roll overs are not common at all in these cars. Akaeon, your friend would really need to screw up to roll a miata autoxing.

Hey Lee, it's Kieran
This just came up on my "videos recommended for you"....got quite a shock when I saw you, and then you rolling. Glad to see you're OK though.

Anything can happen sideways in a gravel trap. Common sense dude.

I was on the Safety Team for this and the video did not end early.... The car ended on its side.
ffemt4727 2 years ago
uhh refund! seriously though, losing the brakes? thats unacceptable. these sand traps really work though.
and you ended the video too early. did you land upside down, right side up, or did the car remain on its side?
TheEgg185 2 years ago
Wow. I would have a hard time driving again after that!
Good to hear you're ok.
