Tubadylan, not to be one of those guys, but could you send me the sheet music for this song. i'm a beginer (one year)and i want to learn how to play this song. thanx
Niiice, ya ima 11th grade tubist. Marching band is coming to a close our state finals was today but gota 2. But i love playing tuba and cant wait for symphonic band season to start up in a week
being a tuba player MYSELF, i would like someone to post a video of them playing a 6/4 (correct me if im wrong) tuba and filling it up with every breath, unless you have ever played one, quit hating
That was an awesome rendition of Sir Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1: Land of Hope and Glory, heard in graduation ceremonies throughout the United States of America and Canada, elementary and middle school promotion ceremonies throughout the United States of America, and of course the Last Night of the BBC Proms. Keep up the good work!
I play many various instruments and I am a musical instrument reviewer on youtube. I personally did not like it because of the buzzing with the audio, you could have made it more lively, and you were taking breaths when not needed. You should always take a huge breath before playing it helps uhh... 3.8/10
Why do you need vibrato on a tuba? Why do you shake your hand to produce vibrato like a string player? Just blow straight and even and produce a good sound from the diaphragm!
Just wondering.. I play the trumpet and am playing a piece called pomp and circumstance for grade 3 (yes, only grade 3. :() and it's NOT that piece. Are there different types?
Look, all you haters, it's hard to play the tuba. You need to take a lot of breaths to play with a full beautiful sound like this guy. So, you can complain if he took a lot of breaths if he sucked. But with his sound, I wouldn't care if he breathed after every note.
All the more so on the yorkbrunner! Horns that big take a lot of effort to make music with. If you listen to his f tuba videos, you'd realize just how impressive his vital capacity and musicianship really are.
what the hell are you liveng it the fucking public library or somethin you piece of shit. so when you went out on job trying to play tuba you slowly turnel into some hobo on streets and you were so poor that you didnt even have a case for the people to throw the change in so they threw it in the tuba i guss because it sounds like SHIT!!!
I don't think I can play brass instruments at all especially the tuba. Nor can I play woodwinds playing the recorder just wears me out. Piano is my specialty.
Has anyone ever heard of a piece called "Ross Roy"? I can't remember who composed it, but it's a nastily long overture for band, it's like nine minutes long and we played it in addition to playing Pomp and Circumstance 1,561,564,561 times.
He is playing a grand sized CC Tuba, and it's harder to make long phrases on especially a large Tuba than a Trumpet. By the way, Tubadylan, the sound and vibrato is good. Do you not own a BBb? Probably didn't use it when your playing became more serious. You should try overdubbing yourself to create a quartet of Tubas. Luckily you have the small F Tuba, which sounds like a larger Euphonium(Tenor Tuba).
being a tubist myself... your tone isnt too bad. wad is lacking is musicality. because you are breathing at all the wrong places my fren. least say bout the vibrato...
@tubadylan You really shouldn't be making rude comments to the guy, he's correct. I don't think he's trying to be mean, and neither am I, but you should control your breathing. You're a big man, you can fill those lungs up with a ton of air if you give it your all, man! The vibrato took away from your performance as well, my friend. Either do a slower, wider vibrato or cut it out of the performance entirely. It will make you sound much better.
@nuttynutz As a fellow tuba, I'm with you. Tone is good, phrasing/breathing needs improvement. Does bring back memories of HS graduation though, played this for an hour and a half....
At some points, it almost looked like you were trilling the note you were holding, however I didn't see the valve actually rise and I didn't hear a change. Was this a technique, or just a hand motion you made unconsciously?
I am available for private instruction in the Los Angeles area, and am also working on a remote teaching method via the internet. Stay tuned for more info!

Just an unconscious hand motion I use when playing with vibrato, although the vibrato itself comes from moving the jaw up and down. Thanks!
