See the traditional Buddhish in Asia, you will find out " Is Buddhism a religion or not" ? Buddha believe that God exist. ( See "The Buddha" in PBS " God told Buddha teaching his knowlegdes) But Buddha didn't teach people about God because he didn't know much about him. He taught people about his life experiences. East buddhist clergies had been made Buddha become Buddhist's god. Western Buddhist clergies reject God. Mainly,Buddhism have system clergy ==> Buddhism is religion.
There can only be one true religion because there can only one Truth. If one religion says one thing but another religion says the opposite thing, they cannot be both right. One of them must be wrong.
Buddhism is a religion because it talks about the salvation of the human soul.
@BuddhismJodoShinshu You have a wrong perception of the teachings. The Buddha was radical because he denied the very existence of a soul. The notion is called Anatta. Non-self. Buddhism does not talk about a personal soul because the ego wants to be permanent. It creates ideas like the soul that for some reason or other actually need salvation. There is nothing that needs to be saved. The Buddha only taught how to end suffering. Not how to found new religions.
