I had a dog named Inky. He was a 90 pound Black German Shepherd and Akita mix dog that was a rescue puppy I was fostering. I was supposed to show him at adoptions, but I ended up keeping him. Had him for 10 years when he suddenly stopped eating. His abdomen swelled up to the size of a volleyball. I took him to the Vet who told me he had a tumor that had ruptured in his abdomen and it was fatal. I took him home, a day later he was too weak to walk, he was euthanized. Sad ending to his life :-(

The more "teasing" one is doing before eating, the more there is a display of how capable that dog is of patience and not doing whatever it wants. If a human does not continue to exercise it's role as the dominant figure in the pack the dog will become unstable and attempt to fill that gap, even if it may not be a capable leader, and in this case, living with a human, should not be leader period.

Chances are, the moment there is heightened anticipation, regardless of how long the dog can wait in a calm environment, it will go straight for the food without the command. What you see as teasing, the dog sees as an increase in energy; A test of its mental strength and proving to its leader as a submissive member of the pack its capability and you will notice many dogs show incredible excitement at their ability to pass.

As a vegan I'm questioning why these videos are so interesting to me. I think it's because i enjoy the natural order of things. Raw diet is a natural diet, meaning they should be able to chew and tear at their food as if in nature. Chopping it could lead to choking, as many more dogs choke to death on kibble vs a raw food diet, BTW. When a dog spends an hour on its meal, that's good exercise.

@rnlpeska hole canned pumpkin works to firm the stool to prevent diarrhea, also works to help with constipation. I know several people who freeze it in ice cube trays and give it as a treat.

If you consider the amount of pit bulls in the USA, of which they make up one of the most popular breeds, and consider how few bites actually happen compared to the amount of pit bull terriers, you'll see that it isn't a breed issue with aggression -- it's an ownership issue. Owners have dogs who bite/threaten beause they ENCOURAGE aggression by either not addressing it properly or by outright wanting the dog to "protect". The breed has the same amount of potential "aggression" as any breed/mix
She only gets a bath every two or three months unless we go camping/swimming or there are possible allergens on her. Or if I can't handle the wet Frito chip smell. I do wipe her rear after each poop, since that part of having a dog kinda grosses me out and she sleeps on the couch/kids bed/kids floor/etc. She has never had a reoccurence of mange, either. Never has fleas!
After years of kibble, I've tried easing into raw when my dog developed food allergies, but I had to switch him off again. It gave him terrible diarrhea, and he'd already been suffering from IBS for a month prior. Couldn't risk making it worse. Maybe when he's stablized, I'll give it another go. Until then, it's hypoallergenic kibble on the menu.
I guess I'm lucky as I've never had a case of diarrhea on raw that went for more than a single feeding, and I've fed every rescue that comes through raw for as long as possible until they go to their new homes. The body is a mysterious thing, apparently there are dogs diagnosed as allergic to meat proteins. *shrug*
None of my three could handle the transition to a raw diet...maybe it's their breed or size? They're chihuahuas 2.5 lbs., 4 lbs, and 6. When I first got them, if I yelled at the littlest one (pottying in the house), she'd immediately get diarrhea and void her bowels. Just very, very, very sensitive to everything.

Yes, ideally you feed raw every meal, every day. Sometimes I feed canned green tripe if I don't have time to shop, like Tripett or Solid Gold brand tripe, or give her table scraps if someone had meat. Feeding raw means you have to plan ahead but it really pays off in the health of your pets.
I just switched to a raw diet for my pitbull and he loves it, I am not feeding anything but raw anymore. Kibble - any kind in my opinion, is garbage and I wont give it to my dog ever again.

As a vegan I'm questioning why these videos are so interesting to me. I think it's because i enjoy the natural order of things. Humans biologically shouldn't consume meat or milk (Atleast not in large quantitys) because of the excess fat absorbtion due by our longer intestines. This is just one of many other reasons though.

I feed my pitbull/greyhound mix Taste of the Wild and Organic Ground Beef ONCE per day (OGB is a three days a week thing) and I have NEVER seen him with fleas, ticks, ear mites, etc...Or any other problems.
He assists me when we are working together to help other dogs learn to be more social.
Yes, I am very much like Cesar Millan in that I do the same kind of work.

Where do you buy whole heart from? I can only find small pieces of chicken hearts mixed with gizzards! I've just started raw feeding, and I can find a lot of liver, but haven't stumbled on any heart yet.

I feed my GSD, Trudy, raw meat. Raw food is the most biologically appropriate diet for dogs. She gets 80% meat, 10% bone, 5% liver, and 5% other organs. 50% of her diet is red meat, the other 50% consists of white meat and fish. Dogs do not need any plant matter in their diet and do better without it. Feedin a prey model raw diet to your dog is the best thing you can do for them.

Raw diet is a natural diet, meaning they should be able to chew and tear at their food as if in nature. Chopping it could lead to choking, as many more dogs choke to death on kibble vs a raw food diet, BTW. When a dog spends an hour on its meal, that's good exercise.

That's not true.
If you put the meat in the freezer firts for about twho 48 ours, than all the parasites will be dead.
The inside of the stomach of a dog that eats raw meat is even better, because it kills more parasites than the stomach of a kibble eating dog.
So our dogs don't ever get worms.

I love how daintily she's going at it. My female AmStaff eats raw the same way, like she's gonna lick it to death! We have 3 dogs and try to feed raw as much as possible, but like you said, it takes planning that doesn't always happen. Do you find the proper mix of bone-to-meat ratio helps to prevent diarrhea? Also, what other types of meat do you feed them? Beautiful dog by the way.

@rnlpeska hole canned pumpkin works to firm the stool to prevent diarrhea, also works to help with constipation. I know several people who freeze it in ice cube trays and give it as a treat.

If you consider the amount of pit bulls in the USA, of which they make up one of the most popular breeds, and consider how few bites actually happen compared to the amount of pit bull terriers, you'll see that it isn't a breed issue with aggression -- it's an ownership issue. Owners have dogs who bite/threaten beause they ENCOURAGE aggression by either not addressing it properly or by outright wanting the dog to "protect". The breed has the same amount of potential "aggression" as any breed/mix

She only gets a bath every two or three months unless we go camping/swimming or there are possible allergens on her. Or if I can't handle the wet Frito chip smell. I do wipe her rear after each poop, since that part of having a dog kinda grosses me out and she sleeps on the couch/kids bed/kids floor/etc. She has never had a reoccurence of mange, either. Never has fleas!

After years of kibble, I've tried easing into raw when my dog developed food allergies, but I had to switch him off again. It gave him terrible diarrhea, and he'd already been suffering from IBS for a month prior. Couldn't risk making it worse. Maybe when he's stablized, I'll give it another go. Until then, it's hypoallergenic kibble on the menu.

I guess I'm lucky as I've never had a case of diarrhea on raw that went for more than a single feeding, and I've fed every rescue that comes through raw for as long as possible until they go to their new homes. The body is a mysterious thing, apparently there are dogs diagnosed as allergic to meat proteins. *shrug*

None of my three could handle the transition to a raw diet...maybe it's their breed or size? They're chihuahuas 2.5 lbs., 4 lbs, and 6. When I first got them, if I yelled at the littlest one (pottying in the house), she'd immediately get diarrhea and void her bowels. Just very, very, very sensitive to everything.

Yes, ideally you feed raw every meal, every day. Sometimes I feed canned green tripe if I don't have time to shop, like Tripett or Solid Gold brand tripe, or give her table scraps if someone had meat. Feeding raw means you have to plan ahead but it really pays off in the health of your pets.

I just switched to a raw diet for my pitbull and he loves it, I am not feeding anything but raw anymore. Kibble - any kind in my opinion, is garbage and I wont give it to my dog ever again.
