I'm with you on that one, my parents Jeep compass has that and it sucks ass on power and acceleration, and when you let of the gas it almost instantly starts slowing down rapidly unlike an automatic transmission that would let it coast more then anything.
NO gear changes. I'd have to get used to that. I hate the jerkiness of gear changes, so I might light it. Not so much if the engine is always revving high, screaming in normal acceleration though.
My step mother's Nissan Murano has the CVT in it, I thought it was really weird at first.. but it is awesome later on.
But it doesn't really rev up real high unless you really put your foot into it. Otherwise, it's mainly quiet and smooth, and has some pretty nice acceleration.
lol although i like to see fast numbers on any car...there is something to be said about a car that is designed more towards fuel economy and for people who don't mind the underpowered engine.
I've got 9200 miles on my Cube Krom so far. I've gotten a best of 35.1 mpg in it on a recent trip. In the city I am getting around 28.2mpg. And those figures are NOT via the in dash MPG average display as it always reads about ~1.5 mpg too high.
It does fine for me, better than the other boxy cars out there in city driving. I greatly enjoy driving it. It is my fourth Nissan and by far my most favorite one.

@4MATICbenz I am a Cube Owner (2010 model) and I love it. Sure, it has its flaws, but so does every car. IMO, the Kia Soul and the Scion xB are uglier. @pantstofry , very true, but there are other affordable cars with equal personality, equal selection of features, and better performance. (Not to mention much better looks). I cant justify choosing this car over say... A Kia Soul, a Mini Cooper, or even a Scion xB
@4MATICbenz well mine gets 5.3 liters/100km so that's a little over 50mpg... so that ain't so bad.. and it's just for driving to work... as long as it starts every time, i'm fine with it... after i'm finished dentist school... believe me, i'll be buying a BMW M5.. till then.. gotta pay my dues.
@4MATICbenz okay, first, its not meant to be fast. its cheap, and its pretty fuel efficient. plus, these are much much faster feeling when your inside. its a fun car to drive
that's pretty pathetic, how much torque like 115 haha. My lumina weighs 4750lbs with me in it and still gets to 60 in about 9.5-10 seconds. only 40HP more. of course torque and actually having an aerodynamic shape helps.
WOW, how do you fit in that Lumina? You must weigh like 1200 pounds! haha
Lumina's don't weigh over 4000 pounds. If you looked at the door jam sticker to get that weight, you were looking at the GROSS vehicle weight rating rather than the empty weight.
ha ha ha 4750lbs. no it doesent weigh close to 4000 lbs. at most i would say 3600 lbs. pretty pathetic dat your v6 is slower than this "slow" cube from 0-60
yeah i said it already I fucked up, got the GVWR mixed up with the curb weight, my car weighs 3500lbs, and with me it weighs a little over 3700, with me and my friend when I shot the video it was nearly 2 tons. This thing weighs 2500lbs, with 35 less horsepower. and more than likely it was going downhill when this was shot, nissan has rated this car with a 0-60 time of 9.7 seconds so my car is just as fast with 1/2 ton more weight. nice try but it didn't change shit.
ur a big dude den. the cube weighs around 2800 1bs with driver and full tank of gas around 3000lbs. this is a 4cyl that does 60 around 9 seconds and can get well beyond the gas mileage u will ever get with your car. I dnt get u. U should b ashamed that this box is faster than your V6 while getting way better gas mileage
no buddy, nissan not you, has rated the cube with a curb weight of 2530lbs. with an average person and full tank of gas it would probably weigh 2750lbs. Nissan also rated the 0-60 time at 9.7seconds. there's nothing to be ashamed of. My car makes 30mpg, it's just as fast with 1/2 ton more weight. especially when you consider my car looks better, sounds better, has more power, is safer, and is much more comfortable. only person who should be ashamed is someone who buys this eyesore.
The "curb weight" refers to the vehicle with passenger and all operating consumables (oil, gas). If the curb weight of the Nissan is 2,530lbs, then subtract consumable weight and passenger.
ok buddy im not going to argue with u and your lumina and avg gas consumption and which looks better and is more comfortable lol. lets take the altima for example something more in your class. altima destroys lumina in all categories except out right passenger room while getting better gas mileage and doing 60 in the 7 sec range. U can say wat u want but people dnt want to b seen in a lumina as a daily car and some people dnt want to b seen in a cube.. what do u average in your lumina?
I love it, you keep comparing modern cars to a car that came out in 1997. 0-60 in my Lumina is just under 10 seconds. I never said that it was fast. But if you really want a comparison, I paid 1K for my 98 Lumina. A new altima runs for what 15k used? And my Lumina is just as safe, holds just as many people, has more trunk space, has a much more reliable engine... if you want to compare family sedans that's how you do it.
Much more reliable enging? how much miles do u have on your lumina? you r the one who was comparing your 98 lumina 2 a 2009 car in the first place. all i have to say is look at a lumina and look at an altima. I drove a lumina for a while and trust me i would take a 98 altima instead of a lumina. lumina is granpas car. each his own...
sorry buddy I wasn't comparing my Lumina to a car, the cube's far to ugly to be considered a car. Here's the reliable part, 135k miles, never had anything other than regular maintenence done on it. And I drive it like a maniac on/off road, and have had all 4 wheels in the air. A same year or even modern altima would have shitted out long ago from all the abuse I'd have given it. Lumina is a grandpa's car, of course it is, so a same year altima with less HP isn't?
ok i have an altima with 140k and zero problems besides at 100k was told that it might need a tire rod. Im sure there r many luminas that had problems before 100k and there are many altimas that had problems before 100k. every car is not going to be reliable that rolls off the assembly line. btw my versa is going strong with 93k on it. reliable yes...
the Lumina has 135k miles on it's 3100 sfi, but all 3000 series engines from GM have been called some of the toughest engines on the planet, no matter what type of abuse you give them they keep going, and many engineers say they're easily capable of making it to 1million miles. But if you really want to compare something, look at my truck on my page. 266k miles, still going strong. That my friend is reliability.
Chevy is a bankrupt shitty car company. The Lumina was one of their worst vehicles.
Nissan Cube is WAY better - no comparison. Don't try me with Nissan comparing to Chevy in terms of reliability. I have a 1989 240sx with over 300k, my 2005 pathfinder has almost 100k - NO problems whatsoever. My dad had a 1994 Nissan Pickup with over 600k on it, til he swapped out the engine. Chevys are shit. My father in law has a 2003 silverado with less than 40k on it, needed a new tranny...no comparison.
totally with you on that, my '97 grand prix with a n/a 3.8L is one of the most reliable cars we have ever owned even after 153k. we have never had any problems with any of our 3000 series engines from GM. not to mention our 2004 buick century with a 3.1L regularly gets 39-40mpg highway all the time. great cars, true quality, power and reliability.
ok maybe with a 50 mph tail wind while drafting behind a truck. . u telling me u get 40 mpg going 70 mph in a v-6? economy cars dnt even get 40 mpg at 70 maybe 35-38 mpg. u must live where there r no hill or inclines at all. or u must only measure it while going 1 route 1 way and maybe its more down hill. trust me u r not getting 40 mpg
i don't care at all if you don't believe me or not. i know i got 40 mpg, we drove 210 miles and still had over 3/4 of a tank of gas left. filled up when we left, and filled up again when we got back to check the gas mileage. i know we are getting 40 mpg.
And I already mentioned it, but I only paid 1k for it, my dad bought it in 99 for 10k with 5,000 miles on it. I bought it in 2007. You can't get a car that reliable for that price, unless it's another American.
Then if you want to compare their speeds, compare a same year altima, with a 0-60 time of about 10 seconds, just as fast as my lumina, nowhere near as comfortable, safe, and had a really shit engine. you can't win this.
God, i would just like to slap you. A Lumina, a car that Chevrolet no longer makes cause it's unreliable, very, very ugly, and very underpowerd, most import 4 cyliders in the same year out classed the V6 Lumina. BTW if Nissan was crap like u make them out to be, than why was Chevrolet the one that needed BILLIONS in bailout money to survive 2009, from their low sales, due to no one buying their unreliable JUNK. I got a 97 Altima with 280k+ and no major problems. The KA24 is far from shit also.
oh no you didnt just bash a lumina for of all things, being unreliable???? You sir are stupid if you think theyre unreliable, not one single lumina (aside from the TDOHC 3.4 Z34) have I EVER seen quit under 200,000 miles, both of ours before the LTZ,had over 250,000 and still ran great. And as far as underpowered, tell me a 3800 S2 LTZ lumina is slow. And the only reason GM is in debt is because hypocritical fuckers like you buy fucking toyotas hondas and nissans instead of american cars.
My cousin has one of them things, that has the manifold leak like all of them has. Idk about a 3800 lumina, but i owned a 03 GP GTP with a 3800 and it was VERY underpowerd for a supercharged car, had so many damn problems with, finally the bitch burned down one day even after the recall was fixed on it. GM and all American car companys are in debt cause no one wants to but their JUNK, thus resulting in low sales and than us tax payers has to give BILLIONS to a company that deservs to go bankrupt
from their crappy designed cars. You know a company that sells good realiable automobiles IS NOT gonna need BILLIONS in bailout money if their cars were so damn realiable
if you consider 245 hp underpowered and a 14.7 sec 1/4 mile slow.every car company has had recalls. They are only junk because youre a backstabbing nissan fanboy.I love the Z and GTR as much as everyone else, maybe more, but theres no reason to be ignorant.
Yes, 245hp is VERY underpowerd from a supercharged engine, when you think about it imports V6's from the same year has just as much or MORE HP from a N/A engine. A stock GTP aint gonna do 14.7 cause mine sure wouldn't a 15 flat was the best it could do! Go to KBB and compare the Lumina to a Altima of the same year and look at the value difference, a GLE Altima has a KBB value of $5,045.00 compared to a LTZ Lumina with a KBB value of $2,815.00, why is that?, simply cause imports hold their value
FYI, also i'm not a "backstabbing Nissan fanboy" like you say i am, but what i am is an pissed off American that spent my hard working money buying an American car trying to be loyal to my country, in return every American car i get has some sort of problem, and BOOM, their goes more money into GM's pocket for repair bill's that their so called "America's best warranty" wont cover and i have to pay out of pocket, thats why i despise American cars.
that is why,,import cars are warrantied to get to 300,000+miles,,when americans get to 200000 mileage warratied,,i had a lumina with 130,000+miles on it ,and it was a painful car i had to sell it for 1000 dollars and i bought a toyota van i haven't replace anything on this van in almost 4 years,, i dont know why but japanese are the shit,,their cars with only 4 cylinder can go up to 140mph,,when cars like lumina 6 cyl go only 110mph i admited our american cars are shit,,but they feel cool w/new.
these thing are so ugly I have one at my job and they use it to deliver plumbing parts. the funny thing is that a Doge sprinter is faster to 60 than this is.
Well, yeah ... that's kinda the point of all this craziness. :) It's about eight seconds or so. Looks slower than it is, due to the nature of the CVT.
I have to agree, This car isn't very attractive or fast. Kind of reminds of a Scion I guess.
I was wondering, did you guys do a 2010 Mustang review? I also like the new Nissan Murano and Cadillac SRX designs. Hopefully you guys can do these in the future.
I went and stood near one of these and I just busted up laughing at it's completely goofy design, and then I sat in it and I hated how small it is inside... Say I wanted to drive it, the driver seat adjusted to me (5'11), left maybe 3 inches to the back seat.
I saw the Cube in the Nissan dealer, I checked it out and sat in it and everything. You must be a small person if you think that car has a huge interior. I find the Sentra (for comparison) to have a much bigger interior than the Cube, and much more comfortable to sit in too.
wake me up when it hits 60. I think i will stick to my 1984 cadillac cimarron

My father in law has a 2003 silverado with less than 40k on it, needed a new tranny...no comparison.

thats so true!!!!!!!

totally with you on that, my '97 grand prix with a n/a 3.8L is one of the most reliable cars we have ever owned even after 153k. we have never had any problems with any of our 3000 series engines from GM. not to mention our 2004 buick century with a 3.1L regularly gets 39-40mpg highway all the time. great cars, true quality, power and reliability.
MrMartin135 2 years ago
oh so that was you i saw cruising at 40 mph on the highway!
occckid123 2 years ago
nah, we did 65-70mph the whole way.
MrMartin135 2 years ago
ok maybe with a 50 mph tail wind while drafting behind a truck. . u telling me u get 40 mpg going 70 mph in a v-6? economy cars dnt even get 40 mpg at 70 maybe 35-38 mpg. u must live where there r no hill or inclines at all. or u must only measure it while going 1 route 1 way and maybe its more down hill. trust me u r not getting 40 mpg
occckid123 2 years ago
i don't care at all if you don't believe me or not. i know i got 40 mpg, we drove 210 miles and still had over 3/4 of a tank of gas left. filled up when we left, and filled up again when we got back to check the gas mileage. i know we are getting 40 mpg.
MrMartin135 2 years ago
And I already mentioned it, but I only paid 1k for it, my dad bought it in 99 for 10k with 5,000 miles on it. I bought it in 2007. You can't get a car that reliable for that price, unless it's another American.
admiraljimmy 2 years ago
how many miles does the car have now?
occckid123 2 years ago
Then if you want to compare their speeds, compare a same year altima, with a 0-60 time of about 10 seconds, just as fast as my lumina, nowhere near as comfortable, safe, and had a really shit engine. you can't win this.
admiraljimmy 2 years ago
God, i would just like to slap you. A Lumina, a car that Chevrolet no longer makes cause it's unreliable, very, very ugly, and very underpowerd, most import 4 cyliders in the same year out classed the V6 Lumina. BTW if Nissan was crap like u make them out to be, than why was Chevrolet the one that needed BILLIONS in bailout money to survive 2009, from their low sales, due to no one buying their unreliable JUNK. I got a 97 Altima with 280k+ and no major problems. The KA24 is far from shit also.
nissanaltimaka24de 2 years ago
oh no you didnt just bash a lumina for of all things, being unreliable???? You sir are stupid if you think theyre unreliable, not one single lumina (aside from the TDOHC 3.4 Z34) have I EVER seen quit under 200,000 miles, both of ours before the LTZ,had over 250,000 and still ran great. And as far as underpowered, tell me a 3800 S2 LTZ lumina is slow. And the only reason GM is in debt is because hypocritical fuckers like you buy fucking toyotas hondas and nissans instead of american cars.
rockerdude29 2 years ago
My cousin has one of them things, that has the manifold leak like all of them has. Idk about a 3800 lumina, but i owned a 03 GP GTP with a 3800 and it was VERY underpowerd for a supercharged car, had so many damn problems with, finally the bitch burned down one day even after the recall was fixed on it. GM and all American car companys are in debt cause no one wants to but their JUNK, thus resulting in low sales and than us tax payers has to give BILLIONS to a company that deservs to go bankrupt
nissanaltimaka24de 2 years ago
from their crappy designed cars. You know a company that sells good realiable automobiles IS NOT gonna need BILLIONS in bailout money if their cars were so damn realiable
nissanaltimaka24de 2 years ago
if you consider 245 hp underpowered and a 14.7 sec 1/4 mile slow.every car company has had recalls. They are only junk because youre a backstabbing nissan fanboy.I love the Z and GTR as much as everyone else, maybe more, but theres no reason to be ignorant.
rockerdude29 2 years ago
Yes, 245hp is VERY underpowerd from a supercharged engine, when you think about it imports V6's from the same year has just as much or MORE HP from a N/A engine. A stock GTP aint gonna do 14.7 cause mine sure wouldn't a 15 flat was the best it could do! Go to KBB and compare the Lumina to a Altima of the same year and look at the value difference, a GLE Altima has a KBB value of $5,045.00 compared to a LTZ Lumina with a KBB value of $2,815.00, why is that?, simply cause imports hold their value
nissanaltimaka24de 2 years ago
FYI, also i'm not a "backstabbing Nissan fanboy" like you say i am, but what i am is an pissed off American that spent my hard working money buying an American car trying to be loyal to my country, in return every American car i get has some sort of problem, and BOOM, their goes more money into GM's pocket for repair bill's that their so called "America's best warranty" wont cover and i have to pay out of pocket, thats why i despise American cars.
nissanaltimaka24de 2 years ago
that is why,,import cars are warrantied to get to 300,000+miles,,when americans get to 200000 mileage warratied,,i had a lumina with 130,000+miles on it ,and it was a painful car i had to sell it for 1000 dollars and i bought a toyota van i haven't replace anything on this van in almost 4 years,, i dont know why but japanese are the shit,,their cars with only 4 cylinder can go up to 140mph,,when cars like lumina 6 cyl go only 110mph i admited our american cars are shit,,but they feel cool w/new.

these thing are so ugly I have one at my job and they use it to deliver plumbing parts. the funny thing is that a Doge sprinter is faster to 60 than this is.

whats the maximum mpg on this car. It better be over 60mpg...
nabeelkubba 2 years ago
Not even close... probably more like 25-30. But I agree, this butt ass ugly car needs to get at LEAST 60mpg before I ever think about buying one....
Beldar4214 2 years ago
nice use of brake launch! keep doing it. 0-60 is better. dis think is pretty quick. quicker than most of the economy cars tested from 0-60
occckid123 2 years ago
wow and thats floored right?
313foxbody420 2 years ago
Well, yeah ... that's kinda the point of all this craziness. :) It's about eight seconds or so. Looks slower than it is, due to the nature of the CVT.

I love this car! The CVT Transmission is great!

I'd like to try driving a manual-equipped Cube. The Krom only comes with a CVT.
mpgomatic 2 years ago
I have to agree, This car isn't very attractive or fast. Kind of reminds of a Scion I guess.
I was wondering, did you guys do a 2010 Mustang review? I also like the new Nissan Murano and Cadillac SRX designs. Hopefully you guys can do these in the future.
Forgoten214 2 years ago
Not sure that I'd want to drive a Cube fast. :)
Interesting to note ... women seemed to like the car more than men did.
Hoping to do the Mustang, Murano, and SRX, all in time. No dates yet.
mpgomatic 2 years ago
i saw a cube today for the first time in my town...and guess what, a woman was driving it! its just considered one of those "cute" cars.
raptor750r 2 years ago
I went and stood near one of these and I just busted up laughing at it's completely goofy design, and then I sat in it and I hated how small it is inside... Say I wanted to drive it, the driver seat adjusted to me (5'11), left maybe 3 inches to the back seat.
gusherb94 2 years ago
I laughed for a good ten minutes when the Cube hit the driveway. It's different, no doubt about that.
FWIW, the back seat slides forward and backward (and also reclines). It may have been pushed up in the Cube you checked out.
mpgomatic 2 years ago
Or he didn't check one out at all. O.o
gunzkevin 2 years ago
Idk what kind of Cube you were "looking" at, but the inside of the Cube is huge.
JFong0693 2 years ago
I saw the Cube in the Nissan dealer, I checked it out and sat in it and everything. You must be a small person if you think that car has a huge interior. I find the Sentra (for comparison) to have a much bigger interior than the Cube, and much more comfortable to sit in too.
