  • Groovy music man!

  • In Chile, Firehouse in Latin 0Spanish translation is named "Unidad de Rescate" (Rescue United)

  • Funny, I grew up in the 70's and honestly don't have any recollection of this show. Was it only on for a short time? Whatever, looks like it was probably a great show like most of that era.

  • I agree more older TV Shows need to be released on DVD

  • Ironicly,"FIREHOUSE" really wasn't much diffrent from ABC's "CODE RED"

    series in 1981.

  • Too bad this didn't succeed.

Emergency was more of a paramedical series so this should of pulled through.

    How come it didn't?

  • @MIKECNW Emergency dealed with all aspects of the reforming fire service, from rescueing people, to CPR, and to putting water on the fire. It did a little bit of everything, and therefor, was a little bit more popular and hard to compete with.

Plus, Emergency! came first in 1971, so it had more of a fanbase.

  • @codethreeproductions Yeah but still E! fpcused more on the paramedical part and I'm sure there were those who were probably more interested in the firefighting and rescues then the main topic E! was focused on.

  • Richard Jaeckel later played Lt. Quirk in "Spenser: For Hire."

    RIP, Lt. Quirk.

  • CBS Television Distribution has syndication/broadcast rights to the series.

  • This was good, but I liked Emergency better.

  • WOW.what a blast from the past.I haven't seen the opening since the show ended,and I do remember Code R also.Damn I'm getting old.

  • It makes me wonder whether or not the fire scene at 0:31 was staged. The two guys on the pipe look like they're wearing their helmets backwards.

  • Let's see; Crown pumper truck, LA County fire hats, LA County logo's covered-up on the trucks. I loved this show but didn't realize the awkward editing...meaning, how many different locations were used.

  • This is great old stuff I have the whole movie called FIRE HOUSE if anyone is interested in a copy hit me up I also have the episode called Eng 23 Night of the witches!!! great old stuff hit me up at resqsquad2@yahoo.com

  • Theres a book entitled TV Firefighters (by Richard Yokley) you can buy on Amazon. A whole section on Firehouse (1973) with a lot of background info. Classic TV lovers and Jack Webb fans might find it interesting. The author did confuse poor Brad David (young firefighter Billy Dalzell) with deceased actor Brad Davis (Midnight Express), and declared Brad David dead at the end of the book. Ouch! Also, see my short Bio of Brad David on IMDB.

  • dam im gettin old

  • @fdnyemt5330 Also, FDNY never ran any Crowns. Mainly Mack, ALF and Seagrave apparatus.

  • thank u

  • i can belive that same im in lowa east side

  • TERRIBLE TV show, GREAT THEME SONG!

    I remember this show well.

    Thanks for posting it!

  • thanks i appreciate it

  • it's the half hour abc 1974 short lived firefighting action show lasted from jan-aug of that year,i wish they added the complete series on dvd of that show so i can see it all the time!

  • thanks

  • SAME HERE!!! I remember that show well... the greatest episode (that I remember anyway) was the prison fire. My God, this was, errr, almost 36 years ago. I'd watch 'em all again in a heartbeat. I'm with you - why can't this come out on DVD??

  • thank u wat movie is this

  • no i think its in the bronx

  • i have a question

  • can someone plz awnser me

  • this and emergency made me want to become a firefighter. seeing a fire crew that wasn't all-white is still considered radical.

  • p.s. Does anyone have the Opening Credits to the 1977 series CODE R, which was about the emergency services and ocean rescue team of the California Channel Islands, and starred Tom Simcox as police chief, Walt Robinson? Its also covered in the book TV Firefighters, with a picture of the CODE R cast on the cover.

  • @starringJayMcK you are the first person I have encountered who even remembers Code R..I was a fire show junkie as a kid, wish they would put some of the short runned shows and cartoons out on dvd, i think there is enough fan interest in them

  • Can anybody tell me what network this was on? I don't remember it at all, considering I was a fan of the Jack Webb shows (Emergency!, Dragnet, Adam-12). It would have been great for me to compare this to what was out there at the time.

  • It was one ABC-TV. It was on at 8:30p after Chopper One. Great music theme opening. Most of Jack Webb's shows were on NBC. Jack Webb also had Project UFO on NBC in 1977.

  • The Waltons killed both "Firehouse" and "Chopper One"

  • omg i LOVED this little show - i was a huge Emergency fan so i sucked this one up! too bad it didn't last too long tho.

  • Sorry! I accidentally marked your message as spam instead of replying to say it was the same way with me

  • That fire engine in fast-motion video is freaky. In real life it'd turn over at that speed. Crrrash!

  • don't remember this one?

  • This was short lived but it showed the firefighting side of the job, Emergency showed alot of EMS and some fire operations.

  • creepy theme. don't remember ever seeing this, must have died very quickly. obviously a dead rip off of emergency. very genericky 70s feel though - you fellow 40somethings agree?

  • Yeah i don't remember this one either.must of had a short life span because "Emergency" was popular back then.

  • I liked them. My best friend at the time went on to be an EMT/Paramedic. He had to give it up after 15 years. He saw too much blood and gore.

  • Thanks so much for posting this...I totally remember watching this and Chopper One when I was a little kid. I haven't seen this intro since then. Man do I miss my childhood!

  • Me too! I used to watch both shows way back when and it drove my parents nuts.

The 70s were a damned fun time to be a kid!

  • believe it or not but i was related to Richard Jaeckel

  • He was one hell of an underrated actor!

  • There was a VERY good T.V. movie starring Richard Roundtree (Shaft) called "Firehouse," which at least inspired this series.

  • Needs to be released on DVD right alongside EMERGENCY!

  • I had forgotten about this show until now.

  • I remember this show well. After nearly 35 years I still remembered the theme song since it popped into my head the other day.

I was one of those wanna be firefighters as a kid. I even had firemans turnout coat, helmet and even had "Capt Spike Ryerson" pinned on my shirt/jacket.

It was a great show back in the day. The producers were trying to compete with the show Emergency on a rival network but it was no match, unfortunately.

  • It was a "typical" ABC mid-season replacement, up against "THE WALTONS" and "THE FLIP WILSON SHOW" on Thursday nights in 1974. The series was good, but not good enough to last more than 13 episodes (and summer repeats). The 1972 "pilot movie", featuring a slightly different cast, is available on some "bargain" DVD's.

  • "FIREHOUSE" only lasted a half-season, in early 1974.

  • Does anyone remember, "If I don't get my spaghetti pot in 5 seconds there will be no more spaghetti!!!!" Love them tiller trucks!!! ;>)

  • What did the end credits of "Firehouse" look like?

  • This was one of the show that got me into being an EMT. I loved this show and Chopper 1!

  • This show was on Thursdays. It was on either before or after "Chopper 1"

  • OMG I remember this show so well, yet I had completely forgotten about it until tonight. Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. What a BLAST from the PAST

  • I thought it looked like L.A. City.

  • This is L.A. City. But, the Richard Roundtree movie was shot at the actual L.A. City fire station 23 that is now out of service. The interior was shot in the movie Ghostbusters.

  • The show was loosely based on a movie originally starring Richard Roundtree in the early 70's. In the movie, the character of Spike Ryerson was QUITE different (and in a bad way, too.). In either case, it was a clone of Emergency! But had a more gritty protrayal of firefighters. It was a good show, but 30 minutes wasn't really long enough and it only lasted a season on ABC. The TV show was based on LA City FD.

  • On the original Firehouse VHS, their firefighting equipment looked like they were from New York City. In the TV show, they looked as if they were from Los Angeles, (i.e., fire helmets, truck, bunker coat.)

  • They look like the fire crew off of Emergency!. Even on of the firemen looked like Kevin Tighe.

  • James Drury rocks.

  • I remember this show well but it didn't last that long!
