Actually, aside from this, a little before this, the plane scene, and everything after this scene, I haven't seen North by Northwest, but it sure looks totally cool.
Though not as famous as the showerscene in Psycho, this is a classic scene. It is based on suspense rather than shock value. Hitchcock really understood what film is about.
