I truly hope this gets built! This seems like a great idea, and looks very promising for Toronto's future. As long as the Gardiner Expressway is preserved, I am 100% in support of this idea.
Looks really exciting for toronto, I always wanted toronto to have an urban river, sort of like the chicago river my only concern though is that I hope they preserve some of the old industrial buildings to reflect the area's past.
I am truly excited! A new neighbourhood where the industrial park is will be great! I hope WaterfrontToronto does this well and then Toronto will be great city!
Oh, one other thing. I think you guys missed a great opportunity to make something really unique by extending all those channels all the way through to the other side, creating a network of usable canals. It would create opportunities for boat travel & transit, as well as pleasure cruises along the network of canals. It would make the whole neighbourhood water oriented, unique and FUN! (but of course, it would take some real creativity and that's just way too much work)
I hope all the electrical wires are buried underground. Much of Toronto is ruined by over-head electrical wires, ugly wooden, concrete and rusty steal poles with wires and streetcar cables everywhere. Most other cities have put all that clutter underground but not Toronto. It will be a blight on The Weat Donlands and East Bayfront, if it is allowed there. Please tell me it will be all buried underground.
Can't wait for this to happen, this section of the waterfront is a mess right now and is completely underused, kind of surprising considering all the land development that's been happening the last few years. Start the digging!
Some exciting news Waterfront Toronto just received: President Clintons Climate Initiative has named the Lower Don Lands project as one of 16 founding projects of its Climate Positive Development Program.

This is amazing. If anyone thinks this movie is bad, they are retarded. It will be sustainable and will continue to work towards the future for rebellious generations to come.
Most of what I see in the drawings is grass and boardwalk... there is nothing natural or sustainable about five, ten, or fifty acres of lawn. These open spaces and parks are 1800's thinking. It's this kind of old thinking and lack of creativity that will keep Toronto from being green.
I don't think anything would "keep" Toronto from being green, given that It has more trees than most cities in North America. I heard David Sazuki claiming it has the most... If you were to look over Toronto, from an unobstructed, high level view...
Now Relating to this plan for the waterfront, I believe it will evolve over time....
I suppose if you view "natural or sustainable" development as being about removing signs of human settlement, then maybe you're right, and we should just dig up the whole lot to be swallowed-up by nature's processes. But this is the middle of a city, and I agree with the goal of naturally-inspired mixed-use redevelopment that would actually serve Toronto's population, instead of feeling compelled to ease the guilt of living in, thriving on, and supporting an ultimately urbanized environment.
The problem is that lawn is not, in any way, "naturally inspired." Lawn is 1950's, resource intensive monocropping. There really are a lot of places to throw a frisbee or walk a dog in the city, but there aren't many more natural, biologically diverse, interesting spaces. This space must be usable for sure, but lets try something new or interesting, why not pretend that it's 2009 and not 1949...

This looks really amazing. I noticed the construction at the bottom of Spadina the other day. Keep it up!
