  • maybe this guy should interview daniel day lewis

  • Although I think that There Will Be Blood could well be PTA's masterpiece, lets not forget that the guy is only 40. He's really quite young compared to many other directors.. I guess that I hope that TWBB is not his masterpiece as I want to see him make many more compelling, wonderful films, as he has done over the past few years.

  • I've got The Master script (his next movie), it's gonna be so good.

  • @bobb328 dude can you email that to me?

  • @bobb328 Umm please let me have it :)

  • this movie was so good and its surprising cause its really long and theirs only dialogue yet extremely entertaining saw it multiple times

  • everyone loved Daniel Day-Lewis when the movie was released three years ago. now, people are starting to notice, that PT Anderson has done something too. crafting a movie for the ages. it's just so amazing what he accomplished in There Will Be Blood

  • i dare to compare the movie to citizen kane although ppl dont like to go there.

  • let's just see what happens. it's getting there. and the scary thing is, PT Anderson is still young. he became "one of the top directors" when he made boogie nights, magnolia(especially, his first masterpiece), and punch-drunk love. now, he's on a Kubrick level. There Will Be Blood proves that he is the BEST working filmmaker today.

  • @93johnk the difference is that charles foster kane has a character arc whereas daniel plainview does not. both films are examinations of the corruption of power and how it destroys men, but the difference is that this is evident in "there will be blood" from the outset, whereas "citizen kane" allows that theme to develop over the course of the film. cinematically, they're both superlative films, but "there will be blood" could never have been made without the innovations of "citizen kane."

  • I hear he was on a lot of coke in the 90s, so that's why he's different now. Loved There Will Be Blood. It reminded me so much of a Stanley Kubrick film.

  • I think if Stanley Kubrick were still alive he would have loved the hell out of this movie.

  • Definitely. Anderson used to hang out on the set of Eyes Wide Shut will working on Magnolia.

  • Oh wow! I had almost forgotten about that!

  • @DrunkyMcLushLives Most boring movie I've ever seen.

  • @peteagassi Understandable. It's one of those films for more seasoned film-lovers and filmmakers.

  • @DrunkyMcLushLives I JUST FINISH WATCHING RIGHT NOW AND THOUGHT THE SAME THING!!!!

  • maybe he was on coke, maybe he wasnt. but he looks kind of tired and so drained in comparison to his old interviews, its kind of sad to see that youthful passion dissolved

  • that could be the film industry. It's hard being a director because you can often work so hard only to find an idea you have developed for so long rejected. I'm young and raring as he was years ago, and I know that it can be hard, hopefully I'll have the oppurtunity to experience that journey but the fact with pta is that he still has the same talent that he had when he made boogie nights

  • fatherhood. it's that simple

  • maybe he's tired cause of the new baby he's chasing around all night like all new fathers.

  • ya know you could stitch together a line between

the 'Noah Cross' character John Houston plays in 'Chinatown' and the 'Daniel Plainview' character Daniel Day lewis plays in ,'There Will Be Blood' and you will discover...it's nearly the same character on many levels.. but mostly vocally.

  • the voice.....good call

  • I know he sounded like he was coked up on the Boogie Nights commentary. I've always loved his work though. He ia filmmaker in the truest sense of the word and he is at the top of his game. And he was robbed for sure. Masterpiece of storytelling.

  • Just because someone is excited and are exuberant about their work does not mean they are high

  • Aqui esta el futuro del cine!

  • !Si!

  • This is the best film I have seen in years.

True story telling, this will come to be regarded as modern day masterpiece of film making. What an outstanding director Paul Anderson is. In my opion having seen There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men, there is no doubt Mr Anderson was robbed of the oscar for best direction & best picture. The cast deliver powerful performances, especially Daniel Day Lewis & Paul Dano. With an incredible haunting score from Jonny Greenwood.

  • God, PTA look so different than he did for the Boogie Nights interviews.

  • that's 10 years for you. haha.

  • 10 years and a lack of cocaine, heh.

  • Oh, has he cleaned up now? Evidently he used to have problems with it...

  • Well I'm not an expert so don't quote me but allegedly he was using it the most after the success of Boogie Nights and leading up to the completion of Magnolia. You can tell during some interviews around that time, he seems really wired. But you watch him on Henry Rollins, after this long absence, and he is totally relaxed in comparison.

  • Yeah, as someone pointed out to me in the selection where Mike Figgis interviews him, he's constantly chomping on food, wiping his nose and sniffing, and generally acting extremely manic. By comparison, here he's pretty low key. And I think that some may say that that shows in his work.

  • I don't like to judge art based on drug consumption but in this case I think we can draw a parallel between P.T. Anderson and Martin Scorsese, who was a total cokehead up until Raging Bull, in which he sobered up to make his masterpiece. Perhaps the same can be said for There Will Be Blood which I think is PTA's masterpiece.

  • @TulseLuper I don’t agree with you. Magnolia is his masterpiece. He, himself said it about Magnolia: “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do a better movie."

  • @TulseLuper I get the impression you've never done coke. That's fine, I'm not judging you. It's clear by his mannerisms that he is doing it at the time of this interview & the interview w/Charlie Rose. He probably will quit in the future. Nevertheless, he's creating some incredible work. They are epic films that will go down in history.

  • @sldesign1

there is no reason to believe (and absolutely not as confidently as you seem to) he's a coke in this interview. acting like you've done cock before does not excuse you from having to make sense or have proof. you don't have to have done coke before to see that he looks normal. but thank you for handing down your unknowable wisdom to the poor sober people who aren't a part of your secret club of knowledge, observations, and godlike insights.

  • He's openly talked about it. Man, some people posting have a very "D.A.R.E."-like conception of drugs. By the way, coke does NOT make you hungry.

  • PTA is a genius but the interviewer is kind of a deush in the beginning

  • It's a bit far to call him a douche. I don't think he gives a real good interview in general. From what I've seen he's rather reserved in general.

  • i love paul thomas anderson. and daniel day-lewis. there will be blood is just a lovefest for me.

  • It is a great performance in a great film.

  • thank you so much, pta is a very great and talented director.

this video is very cool !!!!!

  • Thanks for posting these!!
