One of the best comparison videos and setting explanation on how to set brush settings I've seen yet on youtube. I used to ink with PS, to much lagg and jaggy lines and was going to buy Manga Studio, think I'm sticking with illo cs3 for now. thanks
I followed the steps, great one!!but when I try to save as JPEG it reduces the quality, plz tell me how to save as JPEG with best quality,no matter what I do quality is compromised after saving..plz....

@absn80 You could try saving as a png or sadly, a larger file type like a tif. I learned from another video you can rasterize effects(?)> rasterize. Have 300 px selected and select the art sampling. Then you export it to Photoshop and save as png. My line art came out pretty crisp.
@absn80 jpg are usually terrible for artwork. I normally go png because it gives much much better quality. jpg lowers the quality each time you save it.
I did all that, i'm new to illustrator but have used Ps for a while now. My problem is that i did everythig as said, but then after i lock the first layer, i cant use the brush on anything. It shows me that "forbidden" cursor. What did I do wrong?
Neil, are you having an easier time inking with your Cintiq as opposed to your Intuos? Because this is still my biggest issue... inking smooth lines. Illustrator helps, but I constantly run into the problem of having to connect a super thin line with another line I wasn't able to stroke in one movement.
@architectus777 I have a really old one by Aiptek, that doesn't really work well for me, I just can't afford a better one atm...But it was hooked up to the pc when I tried to ink a pic of mine...
@uliduli As long as the tablet was hooked up and supports pen pressure, it should work. Did you try opening the software that comes with your tablet and testing the pen pressure? Also try to turn the sensativity way down, so that you have to press much harder. Illustrator is really sensative so I have to do that with my Wacom.
@uliduli I had trouble with windows 7's tablet features conflicting with my tablet. I disabled the service and everything is fine now. Don't know what windows version you have but you might want to check that.
for you to sketch over an image. you have to select the Brush Tool first, and then go to the Brushes window to the left. if you dun have Brushes window on, turn it on first and then choose a brush. and then edit it's angle roundness, diameter like what he did in 0:54. wallah! you can draw now! =D
btw does anyone know how to ink over a psd sketch? everytime i try and use the brush it has a deny sign on it, does anyone know how to get rid of that or whats causing it?
i think i can answe that i just found out that you have to double click the brush icon on the right, then double click the white box, from there you can create your own brush like in photoshop, without doing this it wont allow you to ink anything and you'll get a deny sign like i stated in my previous post. Hoped that helped out a lil.
Thank you for making this. I've been inking with photoshop which hasn't always came out the best. I'll look into illustrator and give this a try. ty again and props for the warcraft image lol
thx for the amzng tutorial, but is smthg wrong with my illustrator. It doesnt get the option "pressure" when i put variation and Diameter in 3. It just gave me the "Fixed" and "Random" options. Do u know why?
yea i agree with u having both ps and painter i must concur that flash maybe the best for inking because you can modify the line any which way you can easily.

When I make lines with my Wacom tablet it controls how dark the line is rather than the thickness which is what I want. Anyone know how to fix this?
xmattx343 1 year ago
@xmattx343 Go to brush settings and change them. Go to shape dynamics, and set it to pen pressure.

Does the pressure work in other programs?
architectus777 1 year ago
It works now, thank you so much :).
I'm still planning on getting a better tablet though xD.
Which wacom do you use?
uliduli 1 year ago
@uliduli I use Intuos 3 9x12. You don't need that large of a tablet, though, but it does feel good.
I want to get an Cintique, but if I do, I will barely be able to afford the smaller one for $1000.
Intuos 4 will probably be my next tablet.
architectus777 1 year ago
I want to get the intuos 4 as well, so I'm glad you plan on getting it, that way I know I choose the right thing ;).
Thank's a lot for all your help :).

IThis videos good, but its annoying how much you stop to show us like every little line.
Usually their in full speed.. and this one just makes me sleepy, and want to fast forward.
I like what the end looked like.

If so mae sure the drivers are up to date.
architectus777 2 years ago
I know I exagerated by making worse than normal lines using Corel and Photoshop, but honestly, Illustrator is the best. Or Flash.
architectus777 2 years ago
yea i agree with u having both ps and painter i must concur that flash maybe the best for inking because you can modify the line any which way you can easily.
