partly reason why what KeithRamone wrote was true is because Cliff Burton was against commercialism, the very thing Metallica turned into with Load and reLoad. CLiff left his earlier band for metallica because they started to become a bit too commercial according to him. Seeing the huge influence Cliff had on Metallica - they all respected him with reason. well I wouldn't call Dave's playing sloppy at all, remember back then they had just written their songs, haven't perfected them or anything. WHen Kirk joined the had just gotten a record deal and therefor had oppertunity to take it to the next lvl. Kirk + Cliff is a greater duo imo because both are heavily influenced by the wah pedal, makes a great duo. But I think Dave is the better player of the two.
