@MrWillydoit Actually, it's a case of somebody with too much money and not enough common sense to at least get the very basic flight instruction to know how to hover the damned thing. That's the problem with a lot of people with money. They got their money by barging forward not listening to anybody. When it comes to flying, the rules change but they can't accept that. I turned down instructing one guy with money once. He went elsewhere to learn. Within two weeks, he crashed on his solo.

Having flown helicopters myself, I can say with 100% accuracy, that this bozo doesn't even have one minute of helicopter flight instruction under his belt! He's trying to fly the Huges 300 chopper like a computer game or like an airplane. Sorry guy, it doesn't work that way. Any other chopper pilot knows exactly what I'm talking about.

My grandfather taught himself how to fly a bell 47 from basically reading the manual, and he never had a problem, it's basically that some people have the natural talent, and some don't. Then again he had been flying planes for like 20 some years.

He will not be covered by the helicopter hull insurance. Most helocopter insurance packages require specific flight hours. "Hull insurance" covers the financial value of the chopper. He was flying in a Schweizer 300, even the used cost is around $180,000 to $250,000 depending upon the avionics package. In essence he could have a fully paid off house in exchange for his 1 minute of stupidity.

First, before you try to fly a helicopter, you get an instructor to teach you how to fly it so this doesn't happen. They're harder to fly than airplanes. I don't even ride in either one.
