well the only reason pot is illegal is because the government cant get its "beak wet". if they cant tax it successfully they just make it illegal, just like bootlegged liquor which politicians said was "so dangerous" to drink but they never sent anyone from the FDA of the CDC to shut them down no, they sent the IRS because they didn't get those taxes they wanted.
plus many lives would be saved if they made pot legal, it would slightly weaken these drug cartels that violently kill so many people.
