  • not to be the "COD gamer boy" or anything....but since when did the ACR have black ops sights?

  • @numbuhfour33 those sights you see in this video are Troy Industries Battle sights which are identical to the ones u see in Black Ops. Magpul im pretty sure were still developing the MBUS sight at the time therefore not present on the Masada in the vid.

  • oh dick this is the real one...i thought it was the airsoft one at first i was like holly crap! thats real!

  • interchangeable barrels allows use of the 7.62 round ? Amazing

  • No. The mag well isn't big enough to allow 7.62. its limited to 223, 6.5 grendel, 6.5 remington, and maybe a new 30 cal remington round

  • And excellent job on the rifle design guys @ MagPul. Once again you are standing the market on it's ear with out of box thinking and not part cloning.

  • .223 and .556 are not the same. They use the same projectile, but case wall thickness (of the brass) is different. The 5.56 is a thicker wall. This allows it to handle higher pressures-also creates higher pressures with the same powder charge as .223 case.

So, you can fire a .223 in a 5.56 rifle, it is not advisable to fire a 5.56 in a .223 marked rifle. A 5.56 rifle has a stronger chamber too.

5.56 round + .223 rifle = KB Stop listening to the guy at the WalMart counter for your gun info.

  • Will the Masada have some of the same problems as the M-16 assualt weapons when firing steel cased rounds (Shell deflector being damaged, extractor being damaged and a whole load of problems) or will it be as tough as an AK-47 can some please answer this question.

  • it has quick interchangeable barrels and stuff so i guess yea mutiple rounds the feel of a M-16/M-4 but the bite of an ak

  • its polymer so steel cased ammo should be fine on the exterior of the rifle it should be able to handle dirt pretty good just look at the pmag but NOTHING will EVER be as strong as an AK sorry for the late response but no one answered

  • actually, the way Magpul designed it, it can be customized to shoot the AK's round, along with the 5.56

  • Comment removed

  • ya but it doesn't matter if you get dirt in an AK

  • yes it does

  • I have personally removed the top cover of an ak poured dirt into it and then shot 3 mags through it the large open spacing in the receiver allows it to function in dirt and grime

  • A SIG 5.56 is much much better than a AK because in fact its based off the AK and every aspect has been improved upon. In Europe its the SIG 550-552 series and is amazing so if you like the AK look into that, I own one myself and its amazing.

  • but a Sig 556 is not nearly as well built as a sig 550 or 552

  • The rifes are identical in every way except for the lower receiver, which is semi auto and has a push button mag release for M4 magazines which in my opinion is better and more efficient and yes i've taken them both apart side by side they are identical in every single way except the lower receiver.

  • Yes they operate the same but sig 556 has a ton of outsourced parts where as the 550 or 552 has all its parts made at the sig factory. I just wouldn't run a 556 as hard as an AK or 550 or a mil-spec AR i have seen allot of parts break in 556 just my experience

  • @rumsey91w Unfortunately the Sig 5.56's magazines are crap. They jam up quite frequently. If you buy a Sig 5.56 you're better off just throwing the magazines that came with it away. And buy PMAGS.

  • Almost all stock mags are identical the only ones that are worth a damn are PMAGs and Hk's mags that come with the 416 if you could tell me why they jam i'd be shocked.

  • actually in europe its still the 556. its based heavily off of the 550 action system though, which, like you said, is a combo of the AK and the AR platforms. They are smooth guns and operate like a dream. Wish they made one that would chamber the new 6.8 SPC Rem round. I might buy one then...

  • 6.5 Grendel please!!!

  • Bushmaster plans to release in both 6.5 and 6.8

  • Sweet! Is there a press release or something like it on their website?

  • Richard. Magpul. Bust'em!!

    :-)

  • You guys make nice products, especially your magazines (love them), but I doubt the military will pick this up, since your not the lowest bidder.

Kinda explains why half of the jamming on the M4 were fault of the magazine...

I do like your guys design more then the HK 416, and the XM8. Although when it comes to the SCAR, idk I'm leaning towards it, I just can't wait to shoot both of them.

Also when is this being released I hear Q4, 08. Or Q1, 09...

  • When will they be available to civilians??

  • I'm impressed with the specs on the MagPul but not this video.

  • It is actually one of the most impressive videos that exist of the Masada. The reason is that this was the first time the prototype rifle was fired. Just four months before this video the rifle existed only as lines on a wipe board.

  • not to mention it worked without a hickup to speak of

  • I think we've found a very good replacement for M4/16. And this time we don't have to send the money to Germany or Austria.

  • having played with one in person, this rifle is going to be awesome. i already have one on order.

  • Except it's better! Changable lower receiver to suit ANY caliber, fast changing, NO tooling barrel changing, fast handguard changing, and FAST stock changing. Can a G36 or an XM8 do that? Didn't think so. Go Magpul! Woohoo!!!

  • Oh I don't disagree with you that it's a better rifle. This rifle is still in its development phase and it kicks ass. It will be interesting to see what the finished rifle will be from Magpul and Bushmaster.

  • So far the only changes Bushmaster made was they created a fixed stock, a no tool gas regulator, a ratchet instead of a pin release for the barrel, spring loaded flip up front sights, and the cocking handle moved up further on the receiver toward the barrel. I am anxious, too, I can't wait for this!

  • I kind of wish they went with a bullpup design. Bullpup is better in urban close combat situations.

  • Bullpup designs are inferior for MBRs. For PDWs, the design is acceptable, and maybe DMRs. But for an MBR, all it does is make mag changes more difficult, and complicate the mechanics.

  • wow to say the Massada and the XM8 are the same....you are just stupid

  • I have a question is there a 3 round burst?

  • NO! & I hope to God they never create such a pointless feature! Just look at the M-16A2! 3 round burst ruined a good trigger system & it was idiotic to go with such a feature rather than teaching proper trigger control. The Canadian Forces stuck with full auto with their C7/C8 and ended up with a better rifle for it.

  • alright, i'm confused. does this fire a 5.56, 6.8, or 7.62?

  • It can be configured to fire all of them. 5.56 NATO(.223 Rem), 6.8 Rem and 7.62x39.

  • It is a 6.8

  • it's interchangeable, from 5.56x45 to 7.62x39

  • woops, 5.45x39 to 7.62x39 :) my bad.

  • I thought it was 5.56? or was it 223...can someone explain it to me?

  • 5.45x39 is the Russian equivalent of the m16 5.56 NATO round.

  • 5.56 millimeter is the same as a .223, one is the metric measurement and the other the english (inches). The military uses the metric system, so a 7.62x51 is the same as a .308 winchester. This rifle is either chambered in 5.56 (most likely) or 6.8 SPC. I doubt they would make the first prototypes 6.8 as it is newer a not widly used.

  • "5.56 millimeter is the same as a .223"

don't forget the pressure rating differences and such though.

  • They have the same external dimensions, and are therefore the same caliber.

It's like saying a gun rated for +P ammo is shooting a different caliber than one with standard ammo, which isn't true.

  • .223 and 5.56 are the same caliber but with different pressures (at least that's what i always understood)

The rifle is 5.56 but it can be converted to at least 7.62x39.

That's the one i'm sure about, i don't know about the others

  • 5.45x39mm (AK-74), 6.8 Remington SPC and 6.5 Grendel

  • .223 and 5.56 are the exact same. .223 is the size of the bullet in inches and 5.56 is the size of the bullet in milimeters.

  • All of this was really that necessary?

  • No less necessary than asking if it was.

  • I am looking forward to a trip the "The Republic" of Boulder to get my hands on one of these. I say the "Republic...." because Boulder has banned smoking in public, including your car!!

  • looks like a good assault rifle-but time will tell how good the masada realy is.

  • Sweet! I want one in 6.8!!

  • Hmmm, yeah! Nerds everywhere.

How much do you think this rifle gonna cost?

    Sorry for the grammar!

  • Dude,

This rifle is probably going to one of the next firearms that our troops are going to be using in combat. Don't talk shit about what you don't know.

MSRP is about the same as an AR15. ~1500

  • Guns and Ammo has an article on it in the 2008 Annual buyers guide and it listed MSRP at $1,400

  • If you are making a grammar mistake on purpose what is the point?

  • DROOOOOOOOL!!!!

  • Ill take one in ALL calibers thank you

  • The wait is killing me !!!!

  • When is it suppose to come out?

  • Can i ask something?

How did you develope the gas system and bolt asembly? - because it looks just like the system that G36 from H&K uses.

  • It should look a little like the G36 as both the Masada and G36 were built upon the Stoner AR18 operating system. That said the gas system on the gen2 Masada has been upgraded to a new unique design.

  • you should make that rifle in .308 win

  • oooooo! gimme gimme gimme!!! :)

  • sign me up.

  • I want one!

  • I. CANT. WAIT.
