  • does this work for any andriod phone running 2.2

  • I have tried at least 50 times to do this. It only got past the deamon part once (I have tried all USB connectivity options), and when it did get passed, it failed, and then froze. I think the problem is that when the phone's connection gets reset, the computer stops recognizing it. What can I do???

  • any help would be appreciated.

  • hey man abyss...ive tried this thing 10934820398 times and it keeps telling me that abd is not recognized...and ive followed every single once of your instructions..so much that my screen looks exactly like yours. can you help me any

    OK

    Starting ADB Server...

*daemon not running.starting it now on port 5037*

    *daemon started successfully*

    OK

    Waiting for device...

  • @quinto6 This is from a forum... "- open your trusty terminal app - you should see a $ symbol, now do the following - su - now you should see a # symbol - mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system - rm /system/app/Superuser.apk - rm /system/bin/su * rm /system/bin/busybox - mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system - reboot your phone. Toda, no more root"....... Try looking at my new video using Z4root you can root/unroot on 2.2.1

  • @PPetropulos I am no longer providing support for this video...It is now reference only. The great news is no...you dont need to unroot before the update it is safe to do so. When you update however you will become unrooted and will have to re-root using the Z4Root method posted on my page.

  • How come I can't tether my other android (Archos70, Samsung Galaxy Tab), but I was able to tether other devices such as ipod touch, my laptop, iphone with no problem. Any idea or any solution how to resolve that issue? BTW thanks for all your help.

  • @o0GALLUZZO0o There is a easy method posted on my channel as of today that works with the new update. 2.2.1

  • How do i unroot when i used this method???

  • @nolanoxl See my channel for different video

  • @bestway125 @evolution8viii and @DrifterRDW the adb files are missing from the sdk, search the web for adb files

  • i followed the video piece by piece and the doroot said that the ADB is not ssrecognized as an internal or external command but at the end of the root it says that I have been successfully rooted. I have the superuser permissions but when i try to connect on shootme it says that i must have root privelages or access to lower level graphics. PLEASE HELP!

  • Does this method work for the Droid Incredible???

  • I have tried this several times. and get no results. i have downloaded the drivers and correct files and followed the video frame for frame and nothing happens after reboot. HELP!!

  • I'm having the same error which is 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command. I first used the drivers from droid-life. Then I installed your supplied drivers and I am still having the same issue. I know you'll be able to figure this out so thank you in advance.

  • The "adb" is not recognized.. Says I was rooted with the 2.2 but nothing changes after reboot. Any idea on what I am doing wrong?

  • I'm having the same issues as evolution8vii...???

  • Thanks for the video man, Hope you update the video wen the Gingerbread root come out ;P

  • i keep getting adb is no an internal or external command operable program or batch file any suggestions.....it does his thru the whole process and then at the end congratulations you should now be rooted

  • after i run the "doroot" inside of the window that comes up the last thing that it says is "abd connection will be reset. restart abd server on desktop and re-longin." Im sorry i do not really understand what that means. can you help me better understand what i am supposed to do next

  • @PPetropulos Never mind i spoke to early. simply restarted my computer and everything ran fine

  • @PPetropulos Glad you are rooted!

  • Well im on a mac and compressing files is not an option when I right click, first problem , second problem when I clicked doroot.bat at the end it said (There is no default application specified to open the document “doroot.bat”.) then it gave me the option to choose an app to open it with????? so lost :( please help

  • @CharleyDoodles I cant provide support for mac... :( ... I would google a search for "How to root 2.2 using mac" and see what you come up with. I know a few weeks back I stumbled on a forum for rooting 2.2 on mac somewhere.

  • if the .bat file was your work, @Abyss2Zero, love love love the unique comments ... "We will begin to apply the tears of 1000 unicorns to root your phone." ...... priceless

  • @bja1234567 doroot not my work... just providing the walkthrough... but the doroot setup... agreed priceless!

  • hmm, for me it doesnt seem to be working. i get a terminal window and it says "successfully running daemon" after that nothing happens...i've waited for 10 minutes...:/

  • Abyss2Zero. Thanks for the plain and simple video on how to do this. It worked perfectly on the first try. For those still thinking about rooting this way, remember to have a little patience. Once I started rooting, it took a good 4+ minutes to complete, with long periods where nothing appeared to be happening.

  • @bill220 Thanks! Glad it worked out!

  • thanks for the tips...a friend at work was bugging me into rooting my phone . so now that ive finally rooted my phone im pretty excited to see what else i can do with it. after reading a few the comments posted, you are right about having a few failed attempts. first part i got stuck where it said "adb connection will be reset" so followed your tips from the vid...had a second failed attempt so i just turned off my phone to restart it n the command screen started the process again n ROOT success

  • @trojanfan89 I must admit... I really enjoyed reading you're comment. I am happy that after some trial and error you were able to root. I have been there on more than one occasion. There are a lot of advantages to rooting like changing the boot animation/logo, overclocking, custom themes/ROMs, tethering etc. Being rooted is the only way to be! Thank you for the kind comment!!

  • Thank you. I tried other roots like a one click root or something but it just wouldn't work. This took my sad 1.5 megabyte connection FOREVER to download the android updates. I about cried when i saw the 20 something megabyte file download in 5 seconds on your computer! I also forgot to copy the stuff in to the android tools folder before running root but it didn't cause any harm(thank goodness!) Thanks for the video once again!

  • @kylewiddz lol...Thanks for the great comment. I am glad it worked out for you. :)

  • @kylewiddz 1.5 megabyte connection???

    i have like 100kb

  • I think I did everything right (tried several times) watched vid and read instructions. At end it says "Root Failed" so retired 3 or 4 times....... What am I doing wrong?

    win7 64bit

  • so I tried it like 4 more times and it said it worked, i then reset my phone, and I have the Ninja Icon. However still doesnt seem to be working, where do I go from here?

  • @976Nick651 you’re rooted... you can use apps that require root access... ex. (Milestone overclocker) a free overclocking app on the market. Be careful not to go past 1.45 GHz...That would be like driving a scooter on jet fuel...not something you want to do. You will probably replace the phone before the processor gives way but it does shorten you’re phone life…more ex. ROMs, change boot logo/animation, Wi-Fi Tether etc. There is a tutorial for tethering on my channel. Start with video 2 of 3.

  • @976Nick651 Try connecting with debugging off. Watch the bottom right of the screen and make sure drivers install. Then switch debugging back on and run doroot again. You may fail a few times but keep trying you'll get it. I just rooted another brand new dx yesterday and had a few failed roots but third time was a charm. Dont give up. : )

  • last thing my promt reads is

abd connection will be reset. restart abd server on desktop and re-login.

could not kill pid 13277: No such process

    ?? any ideas?

  • @adl496 This is what I want you to try. Connect the dx with debugging off let the drivers install then switch debugging back on and try doroot again if it doesnt work the first time restart you pc and try again.

  • My Droid is Bricked!! Help oh god....... I did everything and was suck on the first part, so I did what u said and my phone Bricked and won't come on.... HELP!!

  • @ChaosmanEXE1 Sorry It took me a while to get back to you I was offline Sunday. So you will be the first person of 20,000 users to tell me you bricked it. If you are familiar with that term then you obviously have done some research before rooting. Can you tell me what type of state the phone is in now and we will take it from there.

  • @Abyss2Zero Sorry, I panicked when my droid wouldn't respond. My dad something with the battery so it works now, but I don't want to attempt this again running the risk of it Bricking again yeah. Thanks anyways

  • @ChaosmanEXE1 I think the risk of bricking are pretty low. I have never had anyone brick there phone using this method. I have even messed up on purpose to see results and still not bricked it. I have even frozen the phone during rooting but after a battery pull I was good to go. I thought you may actually be the first. I am glad that you phone is good and if you attempt to root with this method in the future make sure you are at 60 percent battery life. Thanks for the feedback.

  • @Abyss2Zero Well It was working at first but I got stuck on the adb part it was asking me to do something and I couldn't understand what it was asking :/

  • @ChaosmanEXE1 Try connecting with usb debugging off then switch it back on once the drivers install and try doroot again if it doesnt work the first time don't give up... try a restart on your pc/phone and try again. If it gets stuck during root just be patient to see if it continues before you resort to do a battery pull and restart you're phone/pc or close the command window.

  • my droidx is 2.2 build vzw will same rooting procedure work, if so how do i unroot

  • @cadmaster58 I have a link on my channel comments for unrooting. Just copy and past into google search and press enter. I cannot post links here but it is allowed on channel comments. You will need a terminal emulator and here again instructions are in the link. You can get a terminal emulator on the market for free.

  • @Abyss2Zero

that looks like a unix command line, i am running windows, is it the same for windows.

  • @cadmaster58 I am running Win7/64.

  • Question. Downloaded the doroot.zip but is not unzipping to move files, only thing hold me back. Says file is invalid, what next?

  • @dogman846 Are you using winrar? Have you tried to re-download? I just checked the file a few moments ago.

  • Hey Paul question for you I did everything The screen says daemon started succesfully but nothing else seems to happen I have tried 5-6 times now I have waited about 20 minutes still nothing

  • @thadc123 Try connecting the phone with usb debugging off then switching it back on once the drivers installed correctly. If you are not already using the driver in the video description...Use that on instead of droid-life's. Then try doroot again.

  • Hey Paul question for you I did everything The screen says daemon started succesfully but nothing else seems to happen I have tried 5-6 times now

  • I have the same problem as Brian, every time I connect in debug mode my PC fails to recognize the phone. Any ideas how to get around that?

  • @monkeny Try Turning off dubugging so the drivers can install then turn it back on to sync data. Consider what driver you downloaded... the one on droid-life or the one in my video description...the one on droid-life did not work for me but the one in my video description is a multi-os driver straight from motorola and worked great.

  • @Abyss2Zero I finally figured it out late last night. I think the prob was I thought the driver locked up at install, it was just taking a long time to load. Im in now. Thnaks for the vid and for helping the commenters out so quick!

  • @monkeny Thanks! Glad it worked for you!

  • whenever i put my droid x in debugging mode my computer ceases to reconize it and there for the rooting program cannot find it how do i fix that?

  • @brian110110 Try Turning off dubugging so the drivers can install then turn it back on to sync data. • i cant get past the doman thing. how do i get past it

  • @bj2koo Troubleshoot your driver. Before you do though just remember the root could take up to five minutes so just be patient. Read some of the other comments as well. I have already posted an answer to troubleshooting the driver. If you still have issues get back to me and I will try to help guide you.

  • I will be offline for Thanksgiving Day... ALL DAY!!! Happy Thanksgiving All you awesome users. I will try to get back to questions Friday. Thanks Abyss2Zero!!!!!!!!!!!

  • can you tell me how to unroot my phone? i need to send it in for warranty

  • @dsruddell There is a link on my page.

  • what r the chances of getting a list of steps to accomplish the root? Also what r the chances of ruining the phone by doing this? Any and all help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • @fireeater2313 The video is the steps. The steps are in the video and the link. If you are watching from a mobile device you cannot see the annotations. The worded instructions are provided in the link below the video and as for messing up the phone anything is of course possible but I have not had one person message me because they bricked their phone. Patience is the key to this method.

  • Thanks to everybody for you great comments, feedback and making this one of the top videos for rooting the Droid x 2.2

  • so i followed all the instructions and got to the end where it says congratulations you've been rooted. I unplugged the usb, turned the phone off, then back on and it was like nothing happened..how can i tell if the phone is rooted or not because any apps that require root all don't work..this might be a dumb question but is there anything that could prevent my phone from being able to be rooted?

  • @peteyherm You will know you are rooted when the superuser icon is in you icon system. It looks like a ninja and don't worry it is suppose to be blank. Im curious to what apps you are saying don't work?

  • Comment removed

  • i am in the proccess of trying to root my droid x. once i clicked on "do root" it started (black window came up and started" after waiting awhile it is stuck --"on adb connection will be reset. restart adb server on desktop and re-log in. could not kill pid 5182: no such process--" can you give me a hand?. also i could only get the driver installed on mass storage so i left it, but debug is checked to be on Thank you!

  • @jake615615 Just for kicks PID is process identifier... Now when it says adb will be reset the best advice I can give is patience. It does sometimes takes up to 5 minutes so if it apears to be stuck just wait before you close out the cmd window and start troubleshooting. If waiting fails troubleshoot you DX Driver try connecting with debugging off the switching it back on while still connected and run dorootagain. Consider what driver you are using... the one in my description or droid-life.

  • @Abyss2Zero Its working well and my phone is now rooted thank you for the help!

  • @jake615615 Happy to help!

  • @Abyss2Zero i got this exact same message.

    RLIMIT_NPROC=(3815, 3815)

    found adb as PID 10682

adb connection will be reset. restart server on desktop and re-login.

  • I was offline this past sunday. If I didnt get back to you sorry. Just re-post.

  • can tell me how to unroot. I had big problem with my droid x which is my sd card is been toast no longer work, and my whole unit is overheating. I guess that is the reason why my sd card doesn't work no more. I need to bring my dx but I don't want them to know that I root my phone and lost my warranty. Please help me sir.

  • @MegaWaxz There is a helpful un-root link on my page. Just go through the channel comments. If you cannot find it I will re-post.

  • @Abyss2Zero I've tried but couldn't that comment. Can you please help me, my phone is being useless now.

  • @MegaWaxz I re-posted the link at the top of the channel comments. I would also suggest that you get a terminal emulator so that you can enter the need commands. The terminal emulators are free on the market.

  • @Abyss2Zero sorry but I didn't get you. Can you at least tell me like step by step of how to unroot. Man this is hard than rooting.

  • @MegaWaxz All you need to do is get a free terminal emulator from the market like I told you. Once you get that open it and enter the commands listed on my page that a user posted and restart your phone. Thats it. The instructions are in the link that I have posted 3 times on my channel... the link has the step by step. #1 terminal emulator #2 enter the commands # 3 restart.

  • @Abyss2Zero Its ok I took a big risk by taking my dx to verizon w/o unrooting. What did you know they gave a new sd card, and new battery w/o even checking my phone out. Now I don't even have to unroot my phone. Thanks for all you effort to help me out.

  • @MegaWaxz Glad it worked out for you!

  • I already sent a message to you but get a free terminal emulator from the market for example Android Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich then open it. You will then enter the commands that are on my channel. Read carefully you will start with su. The dashes on the far left just represent each step. It is more easy to unroot than to root. Once you understand all you have to do is download the terminal emulator...enter the commands...and restart that is all.

  • It worked for me but when i go into the superuser app thing its just a black screen Help plz

  • @chris39378 NVM I read that it was supposed to be like that, also thanks a lot for the tut

  • @chris39378 Glad it worked out for you.

  • i keep getting "abd connection will be reset. restart abd server on desktop and re-login." what does this mean? please reply soon!

  • @fear763 you just have to wait trust me i just did it

  • This is a re-post but helps some users.

ComputerWorld's Preston Gralla wrote on Wednesday that when he connected his updated Droid X to his PC through a USB cable, the PC would not install the driver, restricting him from syncing files between the phone and the computer.

In order to solve this problem, Gralla writes, the user must turn off the debugging mode on the Droid X and then connect it to the PC. The driver will then install and the debugging mode can be turned back on if needed.

  • ok..soo after many attempts of doing this..i found out, instead of having it on pc mode, i had it on usb mass storage and it worked right away :D..soo happy now..thanks man...but i just thought i should let u know about that

  • @NANOHOE I am glad you were able to root. The biggest problem people have is the drivers, and not waiting long enough for adb to reset sometimes it just takes time for the root to finish. I am glad you were able to use mass storage but the reason for setting to pc mode is for syncing data back and forth. I am interested in which driver you used the one on droid-life or the one in my video description. If you used the one on droid-life were you running Win 32 or 64? Feedback helps all users.

  • 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file. ??????

  • @pressto44 I will send you a link that will help answer your question. Someone in you situation has already asked that question on the xda forums.

  • @Abyss2Zero HELP! I'm having the same problem and it's driving me crazy!

  • @Abyss2Zero Help, I'm haning the same problem.

  • Can you still update the phone after rooting?

  • @jc12794 I am not sure if and when there will be another update but when rooted on 2.1 then updating to 2.2 users became unrooted and simply just had to re-root. It would be safe to be rooted and then update.

  • thank you so much man. worked perfectly!

  • @TUNDRA35 Thanks! Glad you are rooted!!!

  • and where is my NINJA? lol

  • @pressto44 In your icon system

  • so my computer tells me that im rooted but im unable to tether...?????

  • @pressto44 If you are using the access control turn it off. It does not work on 2.2

  • my root fail but i still have the app icon with the superuse ninja guy

    but its not rooted

  • @Nightshade1881 Were you rooted before on 2.1?
