  • hehehe try to make a knife handle in the bush that way and tell me how its working out for you, :0)

  • wonderfull videos , can you tell me how do you make the bones glue ,thanks

  • Nice!! I just got the Mora 640. The same you have in the video with the red handle. Its a great knife!!

  • I think the knife looks good with the string wraped around it like ie is now!! I woulden't change a thing.

  • what did you make the glue out of?

  • im makeing a pipe out of a seashell...this has nothing to do with knives

  • That's not making a knife! You just made a handle and sheath for an existing blade.

  • that is a very bad argument if you talk to a guy who make knifes, what is the next step in your argument, if i dont have make the tree in the handle then have i not make the knife,

  • ya. but do you really expect him to cast metal in the wilderness? It takes 1370 C* or 2500 F* to melt steel

  • @CrackheadOwen

Steel tends to be forged rather than cast for a variety of technical reasons I don't want to get into. It is possible to 'hod-rod' a campfire to get to forging temperature. The main issues are schlepping the tools into the bush and the skill and time needed. Fredde is an excellent bushrafter but he's not a bladesmith. He is though pragmatic. Mora blades are very good and available for a handful of change all over Scandanavia.

  • wow that looks sweet

  • this guy knows how to survive, knives are a key thing to survive in the wild

  • Very creative and resourceful!

  • Very instructive.

Watt should be the world without the MORA knives ;).

    Greetings from Portugal

  • what program do you use to make your video?

  • window movie maker

  • do you forge blades ?

  • i think i say in the video wher i get some of the blades :0)

  • i know , i mean do you know how to forge ?

  • Great Video, I love your other ones too.

Can you make a video just on how you make your glue? I know you said it is bone glue but many of us do not know how to make it.

Thanks again, and keep making videos :)

  • Cool man! Thanks! Can you tell us more about your bone-powder glue? Perhaps a video about that?

  • you are very good making these videos

  • What kind of glue did you use?

Good video and good knife work.

  • i boil up bone powder, that time.

  • do you think wood tar(from pine or birch) makes good glue?

  • What kind of glue you use ??

  • i boil up bone powder, that time.

  • Tsh Tsk Tsk......Shame on you saweet for using those adult words!

  • why are you so immature?

  • that duche mwillblade has been sending me all kinds of angry gay emails and comments.

  • i love how you sound american when you say some phrases!!!!!

  • thanks,

  • Vad är det för lim du använder?

  • sveedish forst naif - wisth der wood!

  • Great video! You should post a few more going into greater detail so that we can have a go at making some of these ourselves. I really like the birch bark sheath, a video on how to make that would be good. Thanks again!

  • im in us right now where is a place i could buy the blades?

  • are you asking me wher you can buy knife blades in US?

  • 'What kind of glue did you use? It must be strong to bind wood to steel for a long time.

    Good Video

  • thanks, i think i have answer that question already, its bone glu, i think.

  • Okay, I must have missed it. Sorry.

    Thanks for the reply

  • Thanks. i enjoyed watching that.

  • Hi again. Again 5 stars. PLease explain the bone powder glue or make a video showing how you make the glue.

  • alright so you do have one. (regarding comment on other video)

  • yeah,, i invented the swedish fast knife :0)

without my video theres no one know about this fast knife system.

  • :-) That's FUNNY! Nice knife.

I'm going to have to buy one of those Mora knives. But I still think my Swiss Army knife is more useful. I use the little saw to make my traps. Easier to cut clean notches.

  • Hobbexp - great videos & you've got great bush craft overall, BUT I'm hoping you aren't being serious about suggesting that you "invented the swedish fast knife"... since really all you are doing is making a wooden handle &/or sheath for a manufactured blade. That's hardly a new concept - people in the bush have been doing that for 100's of years - every since iron/steel blades were available. So, lots of people (like me, etc.) have been making wooden/antler handles long before you went YouTube.

  • yeah,, i believe,, i invented the knife with wood handle, :0) heheh, its more about the way i do it, and with the tool i dont use, and i do it in the bush, and i call it for the swedish fast knife, but yes you are right, im not the first who put a wood handle on a knife blade,

  • Hobbexp - thanks for the reply & clarification - first off, your English is much better than my Swedish ;-). I appreciate your further explanation of what you mean by the term "Swedish fast knife", but as I was mentored primarily by Mors Kochanski (author of Norther Bushcraft/Lone Pine Publ - translated into Swedish I believe), he was demonstrating stuff like this over 25 years ago. But then again, Mors did spend a lot of time teaching the head instructor of Sweden's military survival as well.

  • And Mors has always been fascinated by Scandinavian (esp. Lapp/Suoma) bush craft... it's where he first learned about the birch bark woven knife sheath (style a very cool concept).

  • i think you talkig abour lars felt, i have talk to him a few times, :0)

  • Yup, the Swedish military survival instructor was named Lars. He came to Canada & visited w/ Mors for 6 weeks (at Swedish gov't expense) & then Mors was invited to a NATO survival instructors' conference in Sweden which is where he also met Ray Mears of the UK who now teachs a lot of what I've learned from Mors on YouTube.. small world.

  • rather than spliting the handle would b to wrap the blade (with clothe)use the fire bow and drill with the handle part of the blade into the wood handle then carve it,put the blade back in the hole in the handle, put a piece or 2 of wood splinter in the gap in the blade and the wood, under water for a day or 2.Use glue of course if u have it...im a carpenter as my dad and my gd father it works good and solid.advantage = the handle is in one single piece...ur got good wood skills u could try :)

  • @pegazpegasus Clever idea. Were you using this method with straight, narrow tangs?

  • Cool lesson

  • Ahh i see, "just read your other comments" it says how you made the glue, nice! good ideas. :-)

    thanks!

  • Very crafty, :-) nice knives, what kind of glue do you use on the handles and sheaths?

Is that just "melted hot glue"???

  • pro

  • Thank you for passing on tricks like this in your videos. Makes me aware again that one should rather develop his skills and knowlegde than his gear only. Tack så mycket!

  • NICE KNIVES! GREAT SKILL!

  • Yea, you got to start out with a metal blade from the factory first. And yes I did enjoy watching.

  • swedish thing are cool! your vids are safe!

  • heheh thanks, nice to hear,

  • I purchased a blade blank some weeks ago and have been reviewing ideas to put it together with a handle and sheath. still working this out some but I find your method to be good!

  • hope it working out, you can make knifes on many way,

  • oh yeah,... I have too many projects and must keep up with the work around here also. I worked on a goat hide I am buckskinning and using brain tan method today... I start on these things and lose track of time, hahahaha

  • It looks just like your red mora and the one that wildernesswikiup14 has.

  • yeah, the red knife is a mora knife, :0)

  • It looks just like the knifes you make

  • They're called "moras" duh, not swedish fast knife

  • that knife i make in the video is some thing i call swedeish fast knife, a more knife is knife made in a swedish city with name Mora,

  • The guy is Swedish. He is in Sweden. He made the knife in a rather expeditious fashion (I believe that means fast).Think before you speak, Yank.

  • oh bullshit i aint no dam yank, im from Texas

  • good videos you teach alot of good tips ,i have a question for you when it comes to knife blades do you like stainless steel or carbon steel blades better and why????

  • i like both, i dont care so much what steel the blade have,, but, its must be easy to sharpen.

  • thank you ,merry christmas to you and your family

  • Great stuff mate. I'm going to have to watch all your vids now. :)

  • thanks,, hope you like them, :0)

  • great video ,lovely knives 5/5 .

    malc.

  • thanks, :0)

  • hi Hobbexp, i was wondering about the glue you were using, you said it was bone glue, made of ground up bone dust, how do you make it? just ground bone boiled in water until it thickens? or do you have to do anything else with it?... also i was wondering if you can use any kind of bone, Deer bone for example?

your videos are some of the best i have seen, it made me want to sign up to youtube, so i did :P

keep those videos coming, the small details you show make all he difference

  • hi, do you forge your own blades, or are they all recycled from old knives?

  • no, i dont have time to make my own blads,

    thanks for your comment.

  • You're really good! I also like carving wood but I never did this before. I'll give it a try :P thx

    5 stars

  • thanks,

  • i think you can teach ray mears a thing or two thank for a great vid

  • hehehe,, thanks,

  • brilliant, thanks very much for sharing!

  • thanks,

  • How do you make the glue?

  • Mix pine resin and wood ash together and it will make a very strong epoxy-like glue.

    1) Collect pine resin from open sores on pine trees.

    2) Place on a stone near your campfire to melt (do not use river rocks! Water trapped inside will expand when got and can cause them to explode.)

    3) Mix in ash and stir to an even color & texture.

    4) Apply to the area with a twig. Work fast, it will re-harden quickly. If that happens, hold the stick with the glue close to the fire to soften it again.

  • i boil up bone powder, that time. its stronger and pine resin,

  • Good to know. Thank you very much. I now have some more knowledge for my bag of tricks.

    Tack själv till deras video!

  • i boil up bone powder, that time. its stronger and pine resin,
