The words to the song are an obvious story. The video is one of those things that came to the director's mind that people overthink. Eckhart Tolle would say that the child gave the clown the key to enlightenment. Freud would say that the box contained pictures of the clown's naked mother. I get upset when someone says. with conviction, how something must be interpreted, which is why i suggest people listen to the song without visual aid.

Lol, I like the stripes too, was just taking a jab. Jack is talented but nowhere near to the extent of these guys. I would have never known there were only 2 of them, whereas with the stripes it's kinda obvious. Even the racontuers can't write melodies like this. And there are plenty of badass female drummers out there, but then again meg was only used as a novelty in the band. I do like jack though.

Guy blames himself for losing the girl he loved, and he realizes that the women he's sleeping/going to sleep with, mean nothing to him. The box in the video represents the memories he holds of the past lover. The clown is used to show how he feels as if he's acting as someone other than himself infront of the new people. He's acting/performing they way they expect him to, it's symbolism

Although he is disheartened by street life, he is able to make the child happy, reminding him of why he is a clown. The child gives him a key to the box which could represent his happiness/enlightenment/whatev­er. The box is macguffin, as in open for interpretation, like the briefcase in pulp fiction
