  • the actual intro bit is older than time itself!!!

  • hahaha @ philty this song is called leave scars not older than time itself!! older than tome itself starts with,""WHAT HAVE WE DONE,the box has been opened we fall, three words are unleashed to plague us till the end, stick around and witness our demise, the human condition read you give and i'll take seems OLDER THAN TIME ITSELF""!!!

  • @paulcuzcousins1 the beggining of the song is Older than time itself, then they continue with Leave scars lyrics genius. Pay attention to the beggining, they always did like a medley before starting a concert

  • hahaha @ philty this song is called leave scars not older than time itself!!

  • Einstein was wrong, Hoglan is faster than light..

  • I had an album called Live Scars back in the day, way before the You Tube. I think it was Dark Angel performing live at the Country Club. This production quality is better though. I never saw them live, so it is nice to match the images with the sound. Thanks for the post.

  • Dark Angel faaking shreds!!

  • any jim drabos footage?

  • these guys are so fukin pumped on heroine and coke haha

  • Dark Angel >Bay Area Bands...

  • Hi philty11 ... I´m from Southamerica... Chile... and the whole copies that arrived here, the song than is in discussion is named Leave Scars. Maybe is like a "Chascarro" (Please make you translation to understand but is like a gag or just a mistake)... BUT WHAT THE HELL... I`M DRINKING WITH MY GIRL AND ENJOING THE VIDEO!!!!... DARK ANGEL.... UFFFF.... YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!.... GREETINGS!!!... AND OF COURSE... CHEERS...

  • I like Ron Rinehart's vocals than Don Dotty.

The problem with the Leave Scars album is it came out at the tail end of metal's heyday (1989), it's when grunge was begginning to take over. Leave scars is a culmination of all the best influences in thrash, black metal, grindcore, death metal etc. Even Death of Innocence sounds similar to angel of death including its arrangement.

From the mid 90's metal has dwindled.

It's funny, Metal music to me these days sounds like "old" 80s music now

  • @thiefgarr Grunge wasn't really a threat to anything until Nirvana & Alice in Chains broke which was around 1991. So in 1989 Dark Angel could have done really well but there were a few problems. The production on Leave Scars was pretty bad, not bad enough to ruin the album, but it probably held them back. Also, Dark Angel were too fast and heavy for their own good. Death Metal hadn't really caught on, and since DA were pretty much heavier than anyone else they had trouble getting tours.

  • is he Ron Rinehart??

  • Are Bret and Eric both using Marshalls?

  • I am an angel of darkness, abhorrent to all those who are frail!

  • I have the fenders ballroom show video on my computer here :) very kick ass!

  • Good job Ron. It was fun watching you. Still playing puck?

  • @highwayrobberyrocker Do you think you'll actually get a response from him?

  • i was at the show at fenders ballroom when Don fell off the beam above the stage and hurt himself.... ron jumped up on stage and finished the set... when leave scars came out he was the singer???? still think Don Was the MAN!

  • "500 thrash and death metal Riffs" ALL uploaded now. 41 parts. 6 1/2 hours of Riffs! Keeping Thrash Metal Alive.....Lots of Dark Angel Riffs. Check out parts 1,4,10,16,24,30,32,40

Superb Riffers. Wish all their albums had same production as Time Deos Not Heal which was awesome.

  • Is that an Ibanez with an EMG and Seymour Duncan pickup?

  • Looks like an Aria Pro.

  • Aren't those basses?

  • They made basses and guitars. :)

  • Don Doty was their best singer. This isn't the best lineup.

  • I definitely agree, Ron wasn't as good as Don Doty, he fit that band! Jim durkin ultimately quit on them , and they added the guy Ericsson from Viking later on, just butchered the band totally. I talked to Jim Durkin on myspace, he said that he liked Don better too, with bassist Rob Yahn the best. Rob Yahn played all the bass on Darkness Descends too.But that fag Mike Gonzalez got all the credit for it.

  • Is that thing they play in the begining at 2:02 a real song or just for this show. If it is a real song whats it called?

  • yeah...it's real...The song is called : Leave Scars....like I said in the titel..

  • I thought the actual leave scars started around 3:24

  • That song is called "older than time itself"

  • @philty11 actually the song is called "Older than Time Itself"...

  • @QuorthonandCronos

that's true....only the fans know that.....

  • @philty11 So why do you write it then? Are you not a fan yourself? :)

  • @Tombking2

???What do you mean? What did I write?...and yes I am a true fan of Dark Angel ..

  • @philty11 You said "Only true fans know that" But then again you didn't even know the correct title yourself lol

  • @philty11 any jim drabos footage?

  • @phirefish Ive actually seen some Jim footage, search Dark Angel live in Baltimore, MA (the guy who posted put MA instead of MD). I'm not sure if it was the whole show but it was pretty cool footage.

  • @philty11 didn't Nuclear Assault play with them at this show

  • @Pizzahedd Intro cames from the song "Older Than Time Itself"

  • @Pizzahedd na the song is called older than time itself look it up if you haven't yet... most likely you have?

  • hey q conciertazoo la mejor epoca de Dark Angel indudablemente!

  • lmao if Gene came running at me to stage dive I'd run too.

  • i mostly remember the drummer jumping into the crowd at the end of the gig.. everyone would scatter when they saw him coming. we'd laugh our heads off..saw them a couple of times in long beach ..way back.

  • This is funny! They all look like they just smoked a bunch of shit and are tweekin' balls!!

  • " I am an Angel of darkness, abhorrent to all who are frail..."....Hoglan wrote such great lyrics. I wish "Leave Scars" had been recorded better. Great songs, bad production mix!

  • Saw Dark Angel and Possessed play live once---- damn heavy show. Check out VSD from Baltimore for a different heavy sound. VSD- Kill Your kids, Instumental Breakdown and Phantasmagoria, recorded live in 1987.

  • Gene Hoglan is amazing. But the guitars are just a mess. How far would they have gotten without Gene?

  • the only time they played St Louis was on a bill w/Overkill and Wolfsbane, I should've gone.

  • fuck yeah a king v

  • Dark Angel= my favorite band \m/

  • somebody know something about brett eriksen now??

  • that were ron eriksen

i wanna know something about brett eriksen

  • Comment removed

  • sorry man

ron eriksen was the frontman of viking

    the brett's first band

  • haha yes, and Ron turned Christian, probably shortly after he left DA, and then he founded Oil......

  • ron eriksen was the front man of the band VIKING

    the first brett's band

  • Comment removed

  • Yep, you're right. I got mixed up a little bit because Metal Archives say his real name is Ron Daniel. So he is not related with Brett Eriksen.

  • the new preist hood is good,i recon this guy was fucked up the ass a lot as a kid,cos most of his metal is about kiddy rape

  • ron reinhert is good. but doty is better. too bad he like dropped of the map.

  • i like both of them, different styles.

doty's brutal, but rinehart has a way much wider vocal range...

  • sorry for my previous comment about dark angel.i just want to piss you off about my comment(just for fun). anyway ,personally i was awed by DA's speed and aggression.there's no doubt they can outplay slayer pound per pound. thrash metal rules!!! peace brother!!!

  • dark angel is dead 20 years ago.

  • 16 year, exactly

  • Fuck off.

  • well if you don't like dark angel maybe you shouldn't watch their videos and bust our balls with your comments.shut the fuck up now and go drink some milk before you go to bed!DARK FUCKIN' ANGEL RULES MAN!!!

  • Dude. I know Dark Angel rules, but you don't need to bust my balls, too. I drink fuckin' milk. Anyways... FUCK YEAH!!! \m/

  • i wasn't even talking to you...my comment was for that piece of shit makatiboy5

  • I know. Lmfao. But still, milk is the shit.

  • i stopped drinking milk when i started smoking,at the age of 12!i'm 21 now and i don't even remember the taste...

  • I wouldn't say Dark Angel has a lack of talent dude... but I can see what you mean by the whole "noise" factor. But dude... this song fucking rapes. Give it some credit.

  • aguante el thrash americano conhesumadres!

  • Saw these guys with D.A.M. supporting Nuclear Assault at the Wulvrin in Wolverhampton in 1991, I think, might of been 1990, , they blew NA off the stage.

They did the same thing that night, used the intro to 'Older than Time Itself' and then bang straight into 'Leave Scars'

    Best gig ever

  • I love this. Thanks for sharing.

I like what some of today's retro-thrash bands like Municipal Waste are doing, but to me a band like Dark Angel just oozed talent. You'd have to be going some to recapture that.

  • I SAW DARK ANGEL IN LONG BEACH,CA 1989

  • You must've caught one of our shows at Fenders Ballroom.

  • much more entertaining and better than overrated slayer fags

  • You have to be american to be christian hahaha

  • Singer Ron Reinhart didn't quit music,he's had a chrisitian metal band for years=OIL as well as done DA reunions.

  • I saw these Gods in Tilburg, Holland, at the Noorderlicht imn 1990 or 1991. They blew up my mind. Everyone in front of the stage was jumping, flying, diving..It was 1 big Hell pit. Great!!!

  • DARK ANGEL 4 LIFE

  • DARK ANGEL 4 LIFE

  • holy shit they were aggressive

  • Gene is one of the better drummers I've seen live. I saw Gene with Death.

  • no way... I hate you... but in a good way, you lucky motherfucker

  • i once read a article on him in a mag. that said he would make his own drum per say with used cannon shells and old boat rudders. pretty creative in my book.

  • LOL showing asses an the beginning

  • Definetly one of the most underrated bands of all times! this was Thrash and back in the days they were right there with Overkill, Sodom, Testament and Kreator at the top of the most brutally talented Thrash bands!

  • hey, i feel you. did you ever hear this other thrash band called "At War" ?? they had a big following back in the 80' in chile

  • Horns up! Fuckers!

  • agony? anyone no where it is? the song i suppose will do 4 now

  • Fuck the Beatles, this is the greatest band ever, they make Metallica look like Westlife.

  • Which band with 'angel' in their name was best? Morbid, Death, or Dark? hmmm

  • DARK!!!!...for sure...

  • That's cool . . . since this is your posting . . . but I would have to be partial to Death Angel since they only lived a block from me and I know the lead singer by way of the vintage clothing business

  • Imma go with Dark Angel as in the best but i liked Morbid too so is hard to say, my friend leo back in chile in the 80's liked death angel more, he was kinda gay tho hahahahahaha

  • @mothball50 Morbid angel!! hehe
