Pat Metheny is a big fan of the Beatles, but when he became a musician he went to a totally different kind of music from pop music, I guess you can say that the Pat Metheny Group is the Beatles of jazz fusion, very innovative in the music they create and every piece of work that they come out with is just about superb.
@seabobinsd Awesome. I've known metheny's music only some years now, and i play totally different style of music. Yet, Pat's music is unquestionably something that defined whole word music to me in new way and have had the most impact on me personally. It's just unbeliavable good, and all the players he uses are phenomenal.
I've vinyl version of "American garage", but I discovered it on a my brother's tape...many songs in one! My father could say "rhapsodic", but he flees "fusion", saying that is about to die (he only listens to classicals).
When I was 17 I bought American Garage and listened to The Epic about 100 times in three days. The next day I was driving somewhere and heard PMG was at Ravinia in Chicago that night. I turned the car around, headed to the theatre and bought a lawn seat. I was able to get a spot close to the stage. To say I was blown away is an understatement. I will never forget that night for the rest of my life. The Epic remains one of my fav music pieces of all time. Thanks Pat!
they not being remastered, just repackaged and thank god, in print again. The only group albums that have been remastered were originally on the Geffin label and are being re-released on Nonesuch. I would start wit the 1st 'white' album, on ECM and work my way up chronologically.
This Song still is one of or even THE favorite one of the PMG. I love the studio version and played drums to it with the earphones on, I guess more than 200 times:)...They put so much energy inside...it's simply awesome. love it
Unbelievable. These old PMG vids are my favorite, just imagining how people's minds were being blown by this sound. You can hear how they were on this mission to change music and be unlike anything else. Thanks for posting!
this was a classic when it came out. It's nice seeing it live now.

Eine parallele Welt, komplex genug, um es mit der Wirklichkeit aufzunehmen, und so klar, dass sie zeitlos präsent ist.

You're right. And they played (still do) MUSIC, not just some supposedly innovative noise.
