  • @sdurgefafd

    LOL!

  • Aotearoa Maori Whenua Aroha

  • omg that was awesome...

  • 11 is tekau-ma-tahi

  • thanks for this vdeo! i leanred how to count a while ago, but i forgot because i wasn't practicing as much (i learned lots of other stuff too)

    p.s. maori rocks!! >:D

  • "OH NO! FISH SUIT!"

  • Language of Saparua (Honimoa) 1 = Sane 2 = Rua 3 = Toru 4 = Haa 5 = Rima 6 = Noo 7 = Hitu 8 = Wadu 9 = Siwa 10 = Husane
  • The most similar language to Maori is Rapa nui.

    Numbers in rapa nui:

    tahi - rua - toru - ha - rima - ono - hitu - va'u - iva

    tahi - rua - toru - wha - rima - ono - whitu - wharu - iwa.

  • This is cool - I'm doing Indonesian at university, and the numbers are very alike (as you'd expect since they're both Austronesian languages).

    E.g.

satu dua tiga empat lima enam

tahi rua toru whā rima ono

Apart from one, the differences only really come down to a few sound changes. Very cool!

  • @chrissomerry not to mention Javanese, as you go further the resemblance is even more striking!!

siji loro telu papat limo nem pitu wolu songo sepuluh

tahi rua toru whā rima ono whitu waru iwa tekau

  • all teaching should be like this

  • I'm Indonesian and i'm really interesting to learn maori language :)

but,too bad some people in pacific do not want to receive that some Indonesian language (Bahasa) related to Maori language.dunno why ? i just think that they are a group or racist people..

I'm interesting learn maori because i'm very interesting with their unique culture..

  • @lagodaxnian yup ur right there they are part of the same family language

  • very easy heeeee

  • this is good i like this lesson.

  • Good little video.

Is it just me, or does he pronounce number 7, whitu, as 'whitsu'? I've never heard the 't' pronounced as a 'ts' before.

  • @Kamachar666 - yes it sounds a little like ts - I think it is possibly a kind of "soft:" t.

There is no s sound as Europeans know it in Te Reo Maori - also it could be a dialect form of t. - eg wh is pronounced differently by different Iwi (tribes).

  • Aren't some of these numerals akin to indo-european ?

  • @SteelArr0w ...And some are really similar to Cebuano 1 to 10 = usa, duha, tulo upat, lima, unom, pito, walo, siyam, napulo. Pronunciation is very similar, especially if you substitute l for r. Eg lima becomes rima and walo becomes waru etc in Maori

  • hahaha this is so funny to follow

  • Let's see. I know french and english fluently. I have good spanish, a little bit of dutch and some maori. These are the words i know.

  • mispelled

Ichi ni san shi (yon) go roku shichi (nana) hachi kyu, jyu

  • It's not mispelled.

You know, there are different ways to write the syllables in romaji. If you want, you can also write si instead of shi and la instead of ra. And you net the two u's to make clear that it is a long vowel. Normally, you add a line above the vowel, but I don't have them on my keyboard. Like this: ā (copied from wikipedia). In hiragana the syllables for Juu are: ji-yu-u, so you need two u's.

  • romanian :D 1-unu 2-doi 3-trei 4-patru 5-cinci 6-sase 7-sapte 8-opt 9-noua 10-zece hahahah this is very funny =))

  • javanese: 1 siji 2 loro 3 telu 4papat 5 lima 6 enem 7 pitu 8 wolu 9 sanga 10sepuluh
  • Javanese and Māori are in the same language family (Austronesian), although they're fairly distant. Many of the numbers are transparent cognates.

    3. telu - toru

    5. lima - rima

    6. enem - ono

    7. pitu - whitu

    8. wolu - waru

    Indonesian/Malay 2: dua - rua.

  • i speek fluent maori kooz im the bomb!!!

  • In Cebuano (filipino dialect) rua=duha, toru=tulu, rima=lima, ono=unum, whitu=pito, and waru=walo.

  • similar to:

    Rua - Dua (Malay, Indonesian)

    Toru - Telu (Javanese)

Rima - Lima (Malay, Indonesian, Javanese)

Ono - Enam (Indonesian), Anam (Malay, Javanese)

    Whitu - Pitu (Javanese)

    Waru - Wolu (Javanese)

  • Oh yea, and some Maori words I know are very similar to their counterparts in those three languages.

Mate - Mati - to die

Tangi - Tangis - to cry

    Taringa - Telinga - ear

  • Great for Maori learners!
