i got mines off the street. i used to have a blast with just a basic plan without the data plan but unlimited texting... i popped in the sim and got it working... make sure u have a gmail... g1 is also good for wifi!!!

Get the G1! It's awesome! The SideKick is good too, but the G1 is AMAZING. However, if you want to wait a few months, the G1 V2 is coming out in October or so. That phone will be KICK ASS!

I would suggest that you wait. There are plans for up to 20 new Android phones to be released by the end of this year. We don't have information about most of them, but the phones we do know about look HOT. (Design and specification-wise)

I wouldnt say it is gay but i'm with you in the physical keyboard. i HATE virtual keyboard cause no matter how real it is its just a flat screen so it does not compare to a real, physical keyboard. i was gonna go with myTouch but the lack of physical ketboard made me go for the G1. i dont have 1 yet but soon!

And the whole "Zooming" problem? Ever heard of the pinch zoom in/out? You should know that from the iPhone/iPod touch, especially if you run a website that reviews mobile phones/devices

Why would a person need effects on it. Effects and all the other options on a phone for cameras are lame anyways. You can get better effects on photo programs for a computer. Chances are if someone has a phone like a G1, they also have a computer.

if you have a wireless internet connection, the internet connection would work in the speed as if you were on a computer with that internet speed. It is free to use if your phone account supports it. they also have wifi in starbucks n shit like that

Hard to say. The Bluetooth API for Android is still a work in progress, so my guess is that Google and the boys need to get some things settled first. But I am by no means certain that somebody else couldn't come in and make something that works.

Visit a T-mobile store and demo the G1 against your iphone and see for yourself. I witness a few iphone uses walk away feeling cheated, even with all their 3rd party apps against this bare bone phone. Video recording on a cell phone is not in demand, that's why the phone lacks it. Its like having heated seats in a car who the hell uses those? this is a developers phone meaning... this phone is customizable to the user by the user. Sky is the limit with this phones capabilities.

Because Android is an open source platform waiting to be taken to its full potential by developers. iPhone OS is proprietary and very limited. Apple tells you what you can and can't do and tells developers what they can and can't make. You think Android market is gonna have thousands of apps 1 month after it goes public??
