In an abstract sense, the song seems to be saying that happiness can't exist without sorrow. She wanted her nightmares to disappear, but this eventually led to her dreams disappearing as well. That's my interpretation, anyway...

This, along with other vocaloid songs, has inspired me to re-write several fairy-tales, myths, legends, and folk-lore. I am working on the one based off a young girl, ignoring her dead father's advice, makes a bargain with a "Baku", as the japanese term sates, to rid her of nightmares about her father's death. Sadly, she ends up lifeless because the baku is only not just eating the nightmares, but eating her hopes and dreams.

I like to think that it's a metaphor for people who always get what they without even trying, who's 'paradise' eventually becomes 'bottomless' because they keep wanting more, but eventually they either get bored of everything (hence the monochrome world) or they run out of money or something and they are exposed to the 'reality'.

I've geaard tht in Japanese mythology, tapirs come and eat bad dreams. I don't know how accurate this is, but the fact that Len's cane resembles a tapir kinda makes me think it's true. Does antone know if this fact is true?

@BastettheCatGoddess From what I can tell by reading the wikipedia, "baku" means both tapir, and a type of spirit that comes and eats dreams. Because of this, bakus have been depicted as tapirs. So I think Len's cane resembles one because it's some sort of wordplay.
