not all the time- the moon constantly is in different positions while it orbits the earth. Sometimes it is between the Earth and Sun- thus casting its shadow, sometimes it is not (as in this video) and the Earth is fully lit from the Sun's rays.

It's hardly worth the effort, but theres a really obvious reason why this looks different to the footage from the Apollo missions. This was shot with a HIGH-DEF camera, while in ORBIT in 2007. The Apollo footage was shot without any HD technology, in 1969-72, and from the SURFACE.

You can't video or photograph stars in space along with a properly exposed sunlit object. In reality this Moon should look just like a full Moon -- they've turned down the brightness so you can see the contrast.

In your video they're exposing specifically for stars and the aurora, with a nighttime Earth in the background. The Sun on an object in the video is the difference.
