A bird crashed into a big window at the front of my house last week. It looked like a normal pidgeon but it was more white than usual. I took it to the veterinarian and they found it had a micro-chip and discovered it was a specially trained messenger pidgeon and had flown from another state (here in Australia that's a very long way). Once it recovered they were able to send it back to its owner.

So yeah chipping works well, just never let the government chip YOU.

@FallingandRunning Crazy, isn't it? She was a great mom. Litters this big, or even bigger, are not uncommon. That's why it's so important to spay and neuter dogs and cats. Even letting your female have "just one litter" contributes significantly to pet overpopulation!

@xanadont That's exactly why we're upset with the owner of our old dog, Belle. He said he'd get her fixed (that was our agreement before he took her) but what's he do, he ends up breeding her, and she's had like twelve puppies in each litter. ;( Thing I hate worse is the fact that he won't keep the puppies until 8 weeks at least. He's been getting rid of them at 4weeks or 5weeks. I just don't think that's right. I have one of her puppies and Diva wasn't even fully weened off the milk.

The fact that we kill 4-5 MILLION cats and dogs in animal shelters each YEAR in the United States simply because there aren't enough homes for them. Humans are also overpopulated but we aren't institutionally killing people by the millions for lack of homes. Spaying and neutering may not be ideal, but it is what we owe to our beloved pets in order to prevent their offspring from being killed for no reason.
