  • i am living in holland on a ship as well and have sailed there a lot of times. i have seen a ship sink one time and have been involved in a collision too. it's funny to see this because it reminds you of what could happen.

  • Two captains who have no f***ing clue what they are doing. First one is overtaking where it is not possible, second one decides to park the ship right behind the vessel which desperately needs maneuvering space, creating a dangerous situation for the ships behind him and for himself. He should have fire walled the throttle when he saw the collision happening.

    This collision clearly shows why adequate training is required.

  • Answering to the posting of Tomohawk22. Are you sure MAIB is in charge for this accident ? I do not know what the British regulations are, but I am quite sure for the German regulations. Accident investigation starts, whenever a German registered ship is involved, the accident takes place in German territorial waters, or any German person (crew, for example) is involved. I suppose there are similar British regulations.

  • @ThePanzer6969 Unfortunately, that size also makes it very hard to maneuver. Also, while ships can reverse their engines (they don't typically have "brakes"), they can take quite some distance to stop, even from a slow speed.

  • Oh my God! May have been mechanical failure of some sort. Not a good one and it looks like there is a LOT of current in the river which may have prevented the Green Vessel from being able to turn away to avoid the other Grey Vessel. Could be a combination of the two? It is not a good look really! The flow of water down that river is amazing and could have held the Green Vessel in a turn as the pressure of the waters force along the hull would be huge. Meeeeeeee Hearty's

    Bij fullspeed is dat 8 tot 10 bootlengtes.

    Both ships having a srvice speed of 19 Knots ( abt . 36km/hr ) the container feeder is the latest catagory build at hamburg Sietas shipyard .

  • This is no good ! Nooooooo Goooooood ! But then again I stopped a dutch pilot from a collision in 2004. He was pist off first, that I put into zero pitch and reversed, but later he was happy as hell that I did, as he missunderstod the traffic situation.... they drive so much with close range that they become arogant without understanding it.

    And this happens on a River, where the "Rules of the Road" might be different then at Sea !!!!

  • Eerste keer dat ik een filmpje zie van hoe het echt voorkomt, een aanvaring.

    Echter, schepen van dit formaat noem ik geen coasters meer.

  • @sjem618 Het begrip coaster heeft de afgelopen jaren een andere betekenis gekregen.

  • @thadutchguy Dat kan wel, maar dit is een containerfeeder die met een heavy lift/multi purpose schip in aanvaring komt. Beide schepen zijn langer als 130m, dat vind ik best wel veel voor een coaster.

    Eeen 6 000 tonner is misschien nog een coaster, maar dit niet meer.

  • @sjem618 tegenwoording kan bijna elk schip overal heen, dit zijn grote schepen inderdaad, ik heb zelf op een RoRo gezeten die doet lijndienst van Belgie naar Zweden, dat viel ook onder kustvaart en dat schip was 184meter lang. Coasters zijn nou eenmaal niet meer 60 meter lang, meer richting de 100-90.

    Maar ik snap wat je bedoeld!

    WEC van Ruysdeal zit duidelijk aan de verkeerde kant van het vaarwater.

    Goed te zien dat ze vol achteruit slaat...

    Uit het roer lopen zou een goede verklaring kunnen zijn.

    Grappig om te zien dat een bemanningslid van de WEC even een kijkje neemt door het gappend gat in de boeg van het schip...ff Apeldoorn bellen!!!
