Dave is so cool! If you actually LISTEN to his advice, it is a real and extremely compelling Truth, of how to become debt free and start doing Good in your life that can wonderfully effect others around you!! Nothing wrong here..... :))
I went from being a student and living off of about 10k/year to working and making 70k a year. Thanks to Dave, I'll have my 70k student loan paid off in about 3 years. Oh, and my husband and I will only have our house payment left after that and our cars will be paid off well before then. Without this financial guidance, I would have a lovely new car and the government would be enjoying my additional few thousand dollars in interest from my loans! Thanks Dave!

This is actually from John Maxwell's 360 degree leader conference, not Catalyst in 2007. Both held in Atlanta, and John is/was involved with Catalyst. Not really sure why it is mislabeled
@BJ219 physical gold and silver bullion. The whole economy is imploding and hopeless. Youre only safe investment is precious metals. period. apmex website. order silver and gold physical bullion.
ramsey never talks about the economy collapsing, even though signals are everywhere that it will. listen to peter schiff, he knows whats going on. dave ramsey is a tool
Dave Ramsey is no different than the others at the catalyst conference. They are just there to sell things and get rich while making you feel guilty by not giving them enough. It is one thing for Ramsey to do this but for people that call themselves evangelical Christisn 'pastors' is just shameful. You can get out of debt by stop wasting money on these conferences.
Have you people not figured out the 'Dave Ramsy' scheme? It is not so much as freeing you from financial debt but more to do with making him more of a multi-millionare.
the best Ramsey clip is the one in which he explains how to have "gazelle intensity" by showing the gazelle escape the cheetah... any links to that one?
Nomyaw I think Nico is right, it's about getting excited by quickly pay off small amounts. But Nico where your wrong is he was disiplined he wouldn't have debt in the first place, so do it faces way , I works!
My husband and I took this guys course, FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY" It is an amazing course that will free you from the enslavement of debt. At first it may seem a little difficult, but once you get rolling, there will be no stopping you!! My husband and I are now debt-free at 47 years old and it is LIBERATING!!!
I'd like to slap this guy with an open palm repeatedly for calling Peter Schiff an idiot. Schiff has been correctly predicting trends for years, and this a-hole has the nerve to shit talk him for saying we would have a crash in 08. This guy is NOT a financial guru. He clearly doesn't even understand basic economics.

he talks way too fast...
i will tell you the one thing i tend to disagree with him on is that you need to take on some debt to get ahead in life. there is something known as good debt, morgage and student loans... we just need to be smarter about it
I have started my 3 - read THREE - year old daughter on his Financial Peace JR. program (20 bucks) - (My parents and my wife's parents had NO CLUE what they were doing with money.)
My daughter loves it. She already knows what goal setting is. Amazing!
She picks up her toys every night to get those smiley faces on the refrigerator. Its great. Dave Rocks!

Why does he always contradict himself? In this video he talks about "you were made to be a giver", however when it comes to his insurance theories he laughs when people ask "What about charitable giving?" or "I want to leave something for the kids just because?" Entertaining guy, lots of charisma & all the things that make for great TV...just not very practical or knowledgable advice all the time. Don't get me wrong debt reduction strategy is great, but he should have stopped giving advice there
The purpose of insurance is not giving, unless you are an insurance salesman. Insurance is for shifting risk. Life insurance is for replacing ones income when they die. Dave does not have insurance "theories" he explains it's purpose and place in a total financial plan. In his Financial Peace University course 1 of the 13 lessons in on insurance, and one is on giving. Because he does not sale insurance, he does not confuse the two.
To my mind, what you should really be doing is paying down the debts with the highest interest rate, regardless of balance. It just makes intuitive sense to pay off the most costly debts first. Once the debt with the highest interest rate is paid off, add those dollars to what you've been paying on the debt with the next highest interest rate, and so on
Good point. Financially, you are correct. The math works to your advantage if you do it as you describe.
.
I think Ramsey's point is that as humans, we like to see progress so that we don't get discouraged with the process and that's why you start with the small amount first. So if you are disciplines and don't need encouragement, then I think it's OK to do it as you suggest.
yep, Dave says that if you knew math you wouldn't be in such bad shape to start with. Interest rates don't make much diference when you pay something off in month instead of years.
Dave explains in his book why this is not the best idea. It has to do with what Nico3641 said, motivation.
It also has to do with the Debt Snow Ball. You need that little one paid off first and quickly, so you can add that much more to paying off the larger ones. It actually gets that higher interest rate paid off faster!
13 Months ago I was 23k in debt. Read a book by Ramsey and decided to go for it. 4k left to go! I'll be debt free by the end of this year. There's no secret formula, all he did in his book was motivate. It's common sense, and discipline. Stop spending on stupid things, sell the stupid things you bought, and live off of the minimum so you can then live off of your savings. It's hard to get out of your habits and live a frugal life, but it's certainly more rewarding than paying off a damn loan.
LIKE HIM..ALWAYS HATED CREDIT CARDS..WISDOM SAYS MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME..PRAYYY FOR THIS FIND GREAT IDEAS..CREATE YOUR WAY OUT..WE PERISH FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE, FOLLOWING FEELINGS, RATHER THAN GOOD REASONING, WE MUST BE CAREFUL, be prepared.
Thanks Dave for all the great advice and kicking our butts when we need it. A heart attack set us back, but we are on our way to being DEBT FREE! Thanks.
Giving is my goal. Being debt-free is a by product of my goal. So many shoot for the lesser of two worthy goals. Yes, shoot for being debt-free. Aim higher and you'll be a giver to causes, charities, organizations, and foundations you believe in. And that, for me, is true financial freedom: helping those around me.
This guy rocks!! And he's a fellow Southerner and has a very typical Southern sense of humor! I do love John Maxwell as well. Brian Tracey and Patrick Lencioni are also fantastic.
Also, read T. Harv Ecker's book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. Great Stuff! Harv is a straight shooter and pulls no punches. He's the real deal and has made it.
I LOVE Dave's program... I've paid off 26K in 16 months. 12,500 to go..... there's a light at the end of the tunnel... and it's not a train! lol It's great to be able to sleep through the night. Everyone should follow this plan.
I'm debt free thanks to this man. I remember 2 years ago sitting with $23,000 in debt feeling hopeless. Fast forward 2 years and I am debt free with a loaded emergency fund. It wasn't easy, but it really changed my life for the better. Thanks Dave!!!!!
