  • I'm about to enter my first year of medschool. I love the fact that you point out the influence of pharmaceutical companies on doctors. I hope I can do the same as you're planning on doing.

  • I love you...... I would so marry you, your so composed and well informed :) cute cute, looking forward to more of your videos... and I'm so for patient doctor communication and social med classes. I think all schools should have that, we need more compassionate, patient, and kind doctors.... where are you from?

  • You seem like such an intelligent, yet humble man, Jeff.

I also want to become a doctor one day, as medical school would be a dream come true.

I find your video's very inspiring and motivational, and I hope you succeed in all pursuits!

    Keep up the good work.

  • Hey, I'm a medical student in the UK giving out advice on how to get into medical school! I also show you some of my day to day life! Videos added daily! Come on over to my channel!

  • This video is very prestigious and informative to people who are looking foward to the aspects and duration of these courses being taken as an undergraduate in prevalent Medical Schools/ Universities. I had Subscribed to your Video Channel. I look foward to seeing other videos on your First Year, Second Year, so on.

  • lol does your sore throat hurt

  • :)yeppp

  • Where do you go

  • @porscheboxsterlover he goes to harvard

  • Very good vid ;)

  • lol fynny

  • nevermind

  • here in Canada you have to have a 4 year bachleors degree to even apply for MED School, then you go through a 1-5 year Residency where you make only around 60,000 .

  • does you sore throat hurt...? :)

  • At what age did you start?

  • OMG!! This is so similar to my uni (& im not even in America) Very interesting to hear.

  • Congrats on getting into Harvard Med. :) I hope everything is still going well! Thanks for the video.

  • holy shit. your in harvard medical school.? omg, you must be soo smart. I live in australia, and my dream is to get into sydney medical school.

  • Hi. What did you major in before med school?

  • Thank you for your video! I'd love to share my thoughts but I'm not in medicine yet. Hopefully in future

  • Do you need to take physics in highschool?

Im taking calc, chemistry, biology and english in year 12 (im in Australia)

I would prefer not taking physics since Im not the best at math so calculus will be challengeing enough

  • I start next sept so I have a long time

  • Hi, I have a question. I have never taken biology or chemistry but somehow I got into medical school. Im wondering if I should take a course before to learn all that stuff or if they teach me while im there??

  • @scarface0990

I thought medical school had prerequisites......... depends on which one though, I guess..

  • I want to start studying for mcat, I'm still in highschool and have a lot of free time. most things I found are just practice tests. where can I learn everything that's on the actual test?

  • Where did you get all that money to attend Harvard especially medical school?

  • I wish i could go to harvard...

what did you do to go there?

    Damn. Nice job brother...

  • @GabeForSale2K My aren't you informative. You failed to notice that two others before you have posted basically the same response (much more politely, I might add) and I have admitted to the mistake twice. However, for some reason you had to get all fucking worked up about it and type a useless, redundant response. Please, seek to understand before becoming involved. Benevolence does reward.

  • OMG HARVARD MEDICAL IS MY DREAM SCHOOL! RESPECT MAN!

  • want to know something really special that the professors at the Harvard Medical School and the FBI (aka the mickey mouse club) and the american government dont want anyone to know about.................go to "diesel one more time hepfidelity 2010joe54" and press "see all" to find my 3 hidden comments.

  • hallelujah!

  • 80% of the people here are so jealous lol.

  • geez ur in harvard med? respect.

  • his dad made him go there.

  • Nurse > Doctor

  • @e1g3r ya right

  • @e1g3r lol no way! a doctor is a boss.

  • asian invaaaaasion

  • sooo many ologies

  • He's still not done yet....

  • This is a great video. Very informative. However, I do have one critique. I don't know if this is the equipment you are using or possible feedback from an electrical device near you, but their is a piercing high pitch sound throughout the entire video, which is tolerable, but somewhat painful to hear.

  • thanks for providing such an informative video about the first year experience of medical school.

  • Man its my dream to be a doctor im only high school what kind of grades should i be getting now ? I know high school grades dont count but i need to know because i have an 89 average isthat high enough i coukd bring it up with extra work but is that ok?

  • Comment removed

  • @FeralArtist Actually High School grades do NOT matter....once you go to a post secondary institution its pretty much a whole new ball game...ensure you have a high GPA in college/uni and make sure to score well on your SAT...do well in high school in order to ensure to get into the program you want and to create good work habits...89% is a fairly good average but in uni your def gonna have to step up your game and this coming from someone with a mid-90 avg in high school:)

  • @popularism Thanks didn't know that :)

  • @FeralArtist high school grades do not count. I am a med student.

  • @bomberfun1 I am fully aware of that now.

  • @zozlimits why do you want to be a doctor? just cuz?

  • YOU DO A GREAT JOB MAY GOD BLESS U ON UR WORK IM HOPE TO END UP MAKING IT LIKE YOU ALSO BC IM A FIRST YEAR FRESHMAN IN COLLEGE BUT GOOD LUCK FOR U ............KEEP IT UP!!

  • I live in Australia and I am Korean born Australian. Most doctors here in Sydney are Asian. Many of my Korean Australian friends are doctors. Too many Asian representation in the medical field but not so in the legal field. So I am vey grateful that I am in the law school. That way I can truly represent the Korean community in Australia and worldwide. Asians are badly marginalised in the legal industry right now...too many Asian doctors, not enough Asian lawyers.

  • is that a dick pump on his desk?

  • @LordOftheMind haha probly

  • i envy you guys, i wish i was smart enough to get into medical school when i was in college. Im not an idiot but I just dont have the talent. God blessed me with athleticism but i would trade it to have a medical career.

  • I espire to be like you!!!!!

  • I got into med school!!! Have my letter in my hands. John Hopkins Medical School.

  • OMG!

    your in Harvard!!!!

  • Good info, thanks for posting it!

  • If you are hispanic, you have a huge advantage getting into medical school. If you are a white male, you will not get in. That is the bullshit with schools these days.

  • @BeepimajeepBeep white male here, got into medical school along with a bunch of other white males.

  • @doktathunda hes probably just mad that he got rejected. Let him vent lol

  • @BeepimajeepBeep other way around in Australia mate. If you are white then you have an advantage. Im white and i killed it in the interview. Here about 80% of med students are asian. Not a racist remark, just an observation.

  • @morava1 In america they actually put down that they prefer hispanic students over whites.

  • @BeepimajeepBeep are you kidding me? EVERY medical school has mostly white students. ~_~ look at Msars budd

  • @krayzvi3tblue I have read on alot of medical schools' websites that they prefer* hispanics.

  • I see a dirty illusion on that lamp :)

  • @emilydeckelmann haha (sarcastic laugh)

  • your cool

  • does co-op in one's bachelor;s of science help in medschool?

  • what were your grades, sat scores, acheivements in high school. thanks fo the info?

  • fuck orientals

  • @bomberfun1 he's fucking smart , thats how

  • @dragomanrd2 chinese community is a mafia in USA.

  • @bomberfun1 at least he has a community backing him up. You have no one, it seems.

  • Hi, what was your undergraduate major? Did you just take pre-med or biochemistry or you have a different bachelor degree?

  • hes going to be paid to poison people.

  • In the uni I want to go to there is a research year which makes the MBBS degreee for an extra year should I take the offer and do an extra research year or go to a uni without this year

  • Here is how Medical School should be. After students graduate they will work directly for the Government. No more balogny. Setting them free causes corruption. Their also charging too much causing damage to the economy. Graduates will be located to a Government Hospital. They will be paid by the Government.

    A. Terminology and The Basics.

    B. Anatomy and Cell Biology.

    C. Medicine and Pharmaceuticals.

    D. Normal Physician and Surgical.

  • @tnguyen318 You're a fucking idiot.

  • 30 people dont like asians =x

  • classes to recommend for first two years at a four-year university before pre-med?

  • What classes do you recommend to take in high school? I'll be going into sophomore year soon.

  • I kept running into some obnoxious doctors and had to change them as frequently as I change my clothes. I really want a doctor who can talk to me as a person and really want to help me because I am paying them anyway. It is never a free session. I don't like intrusive doctors either. I think some of the doctors out there are simply obnoxious and bullies. I complained about having a hearing problem in one of my ears & this dr dude asked me if I could hear the word "dumb". WTF?

  • im second yr med school student..mangalore,india..anatomy(includes histology n embryology),biochemistry, physiology is wt we've gt in first year..a llot of weed though all along..was fuckin tough at starting, but'll llove it later, get used to it..im happy fr nw..cant wait to pursue post grad in canada or new zealand..aah wanna bcome a bigshot surgeon sumday,n put ma hands on ma own maserati!!

  • wow harvard med. can i get your autograph

  • Hey, Im in first year medical school in Wroclaw, Poland for foreign students. The program here is 6 years, which means you can be accepted straight after high school (like me :] ).

Our year consists of the following:

    Anatomy - sep to jun

    Chemistry - sep to jun

    Biology/Parasitology - feb to june

    Latin - sep to june

Embryology & Histology - feb to june

And as you can imagine, it's pretty freaking intense.

  • @dukebielak nice man, i live in gdansk in poland and im in med for foreign students aswell, anatomy is the biggest bitch, because poland curriculum make u complete it in one year when in other med schools they do anatomy over two years.. hows anatomy for you guys?? and we have polish, chem, histo, anatomy, embryo, latin, PE, ICT, cell bio, injection techniques, nursing, elective subjects and first aid, all of them are easy except for anatomy which i might fail

  • @AntiEmpire1 Yeah, Anatomys a bitch here as well. However, we also have Parasitology incorporated into Biology which is insane. For example my last test consisted of memorizing the lifecycles, clinical features and diagnostic techniques for 20 different parasites :/

    for our full schedule:

    englishdivision.am.wroc.pl/content/view/3948/364/

  • @dukebielak good luck :) um could you give me the name of your university and the website pls?

  • @LateBackfootHeelflip

    Akademia medyczna im. Piastów śląskich

    englishdivision.am.wroc.pl

  • hey man, im in medical school, and i just want to say is it typical to smoke alot of weed with friends if your medical school, because i keep thinking were the only doctors that do it this much and so much at a time, i mean i get that they smoke weed in other schools but not as much as us, and i fucking hate medical school, but your grow to love it, and unfortuantely im still growing. but i love it in another perspective.

  • @AntiEmpire1 -i agree wid u man..same here..frm india wid love!:-)

  • this is very informative, thanks for posting. keep em coming.

  • no my sore throat does not hurt...

  • Hi. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Is the program at your school composed of two years of classroom ed. followed by two of clinical?

  • I just wanted so say thank you for putting up this video. I am a general education student who is becoming increasingly intrigued by the medical field. I really like the idea of nursing school, however, I really love the idea of studying medicine as well. The hard decision for me is deciding whether I would rather be a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician. If you have any advice on that note, please let me know. My name is David just so you know.

    Thank you

  • I'm on second semester, school of medicine at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, in Mexico, so far my first semester was 1) Anatomy 2) Histology 3) Biochemistry 4) Preclinical abilities development 5) Medicine in the community 6) Public Health 7) Public health statistics each one of the above said were one semester long currently I'm on second semester now I got 1) Physiology 2) Embryology 3) Immunology 4) Genetics 5) Public Health 1 & 2 are one semester long remaining, 3 months each one:)
  • @91puzzlesolver

Hello, my name is David and i am very interested in nursing and medicine. I saw your post and my only question is how do the instructors expect you to take 7 courses? That may be a rediculous question, but that's crazy, especially with the amount of complex material each one entails. Its honestly sounds awesome, it's just insane. I hope you do great, and good luck.

    David

  • @outsiderst Hi! It's great that you'd be interested in nursing and medicine, actually my school accepts American students, and at the end of all of the courses, you'll be accredited from AMC. There are plenty of foreigner students, most of them are American. About the courses, I don't know how I made it through, but it wasn't easy, that's for sure, also this semester I'm taking medical psychology, and I don't really know what other courses. Whatsoever, you can contact me directly on my channel

  • Whats the school day length?

  • The first year medical students of NYMC put together this video within 24 hours (high-yield video production). It's called INTUSSUSCEPTION, and is a parody of Inception available here on YouTube. Please view my channel page or search it to view. Hope you enjoy it!

  • i am really wanting to become a pediatrician but i am kind of scared of blood so how to get over it

  • @2pkjs1351

Find a way to see it. Shadow a surgeon. Ask yourself why you fear it. Is that fear justified, or is it just irrational mental conditioning. The only way to get over that is to place yourself in situations where you can see blood and to stay there and overcome your fear.

  • what is your weekly schedule like? mon-fri 8am-4pm? and is it the same for pre med?

  • what is your weekly schedule? classes mon-fri? 8am to 4pm? and what is that the same for pre med?

  • ok all asians are smart

  • These are the guys I used. They were very helpful: applicationconsultant.webs.com

  • Should I take Ap classes or it doesn't matter

  • fppn.org

  • im a sophmore in high school, what should i do, or what classes should i focus on? I reallly want to become a general surgeon. im going to take ap biology, anatomy, and focus on science and math. but what else should i take?

  • @princessjayzee25 I don't want to sound mean, but you won't get too many positive responses when you are saying you know you want to be a surgeon at 16 years of age. Seriously, you don't jack about the profession yet, so do not advertise the surgery thing just yet. You really won't know until you complete rotations in your 3rd year. Anyhow, just do well in high school and get into a good college. High school grades mean NOTHING after you get into college. It's a long road. One step @ a time.

  • @ATMfromNJ well we r doing these projects where u choose a career that is something you want at the time, then write about the classes and scores u have to get. thats kinda y i was asking. I know i might change my mind, but i am pretty determined so im sorry but ur comment does not mean anything to me.

  • @princessjayzee25 That's cool. No skin off my back. Regardless, you should post some of your questions, concerns, ideas, etc on the Student Doctor Network site. The forums there are solid and they even have a forum section for high school kids interested in medicine. It's a great site for high schoolers all the way up through residents and attendings. In the mean, volunteer at a hospital (ER if you can). BTW, I never said you couldn't be a surgeon. I'm just saying you don't much about it.

  • @ATMfromNJ thank you, i have looked up alot of information and i feel like over time i will learn the things needed to go into medicine. thanks for the site. really appreciate it.

  • @Jamindian91: For me it means 'a lot'.. And i'm so jealous (just kidding...) ^^

  • Thanks for putting this up! It has really got me a good feel on med school.

  • I'm from Indonesia and this is what i learn in my first year (well, now) in UKRIDA:

Because now i still in 1st semester, so i just write what i learn in my 1 semester.

    1. Block 1: bioethics, humanities, professionalism in medicine, communication and empathy.

    2. Block 2: Science writing and health paradigm

    3. Basic Biology cell: physiology, biochemistry, biomolukular.

    4. Block 4: Reproduction and embryology

  • I'm a medical student too, and this year is my first year..

    I'm from Indonesia ^^

  • hey i just got one question for you and all other medical students, at least in the USA anyway.

Are you guys actually taught to think that you guys are God, or a God, in the hospital and other settings where you work with other medical professionals or do 95% of you guys just acquire the "God-Mentality" later!?

LMFAO...coz from my experience working in the medical field, it seems like 95% of you jerks Act like you're God!

Please don't be like 'those' doctors man!? TY :)

  • @HawaiiRudeboy I don't follow your statement, please clarify.

  • @MultiStickATG it's just about how the majority of doctors who work in the hospital behave like they're are SOOOO MUCH better than anyone else who is not a doctor in the hospital, and in a lot of ways.............Act as if they are God, or a God. Ask any non-doctor this who has worked in a hospital in the US for a good amount of time and they will tell you that this is True!

    did that clarify it?

  • @HawaiiRudeboy Oh okay. By the way, I have to ask; Why do you not like doctors? Not that I'm saying anything derogatory I'm just curious. Cause I feel like slapping mine now.

  • @MultiStickATG hmmm, well i Really had nothing against them before i worked in the medical field and got to see how they acted in the hospitals you know? i mean i still go to them when i absolutely need to, BUT the fact that most of them Actually Believe that they are just Better than other people because of their jobs is just So Wrong to me!

and Yes, i have been treated like shit and a 2nd class human being by doctors for not being a Doctor in the hospital.

  • @HawaiiRudeboy Man (in general) has free will. If a doctor doesn't believe in god and wants to label him/herself as god then it is his or her right. If one is saving people from death than he or she may gratify themselves in any way they please. Also not a single person (self-righteous christains mainly) has any right to make such a stereotypical comment. I know alot of good doctors that are good christians. I also know doctors that are just as good at what they do and dont thank the lord.

  • Comment removed

  • @llamaman15 LMFAO...you said, "If one is saving people from death than he or she may gratify themselves in any way they please."....are you fucking kidding me!? so you think it's just doctors that save lives in the hospital right!? WRONG!!! LOL, ever heard of medications and technology?

of course Doctors play a key role, but if there's no AED to restart a heart or machines to transfuse blood or xray the body, etc do you think doctors can 'save' as many lives as they do!?

  • @llamaman15 oh and btw, Most of the Life-Saving machines and technology out there are now handled and used mainly by non-doctors anyway Even in the hospitals!

so not only is the "God-Mentality" of doctors rude, it's NOT EVEN VALID! LOL

oh and about your whole "Man has fee will" argument....LOL, yah i know that and i too enjoy my fee will, BUT there is also Good and Bad right!? LOL, so if i do something "Bad" out of my Free Will, it's Still Bad right!? LOL

  • @llamaman15 Finally.....you said, "Also not a single person (self-righteous christains mainly) has any right to make such a stereotypical comment.".......Fool i wasn't making a 'stereotypical' comment.

My comment was based on years of experience working and doing clinicals in a hospital setting and being able to observe doctors in the hospitals for years AND having to work with them and other medical professionals! Fact: Most MDs in the hospitals Really do think they're Better than non-MDs

  • ball park what is the ratio of medical school to social life, do you still get to comfortably get to see family and friends or does it take up most of your time, i'm asking because i'm a freshman in college and its my dream to go pre-med but i dont want my studys to be all my life is. what is your opinion?

  • to med school i was wondering if you still think i have a chance after not having the best highschool grades and if high school actually will affect you into your pathway of being in the medical field

  • i was wondering if you could please give me some advice i am a highschool junior and i faced some personel issues that brought my gpa down i am now giving up on my only goal in life witch was being in the medical field because i am afraird i will not be abel to be admitted into the university i would like to attend i feel like i set myself up for faliure and that i will never be abel tro work my way up

  • First Semester- UWI, Mona, Jamaica

    1. Introduction to Molecular Medicine

Genetics, Sickle Cell (problem in the Caribbean), Forensic Science etc.

    2. Introduction to Histology and Embryology

Epithelium, Glands, Muscle, Nerves, Lymphoid, Embryology- the whole darn thing

    3. Introduction to Medical Practice- Taking pt. history, communicating with pts. etc

    4. FUNDAMENTALS OF DISEASE AND TREATMENT -Pathology, PHARMACOLOGY :s Microbiology

    5. Musculoskeletal System -Upper and Lower Limb, Pathology

  • @jamindian91 OMG!! do you already learn forensic science??!! We still learn basic biochemical, basic Biomolekular, basic physiology, communication and all basic things..

    And socialize as well ^^

  • @AdventRock Yeah...but it really isn't a lot....like securing a crime scene, collecting sampes, transporting and storing samples, Paternity Tests (pretty cool), DNA tests (we got to develop our own DNA from mouth swab), bood splatter patterns, cothes fibres, Short Tandem Repeats (STRs)

  • Does your sore throat hurt? No my "Saw" throat is painless. oh wow

  • I'm strongly thinking of studying medicine in the future, do I NEED to study maths beforehand? What are the best subjects to study before you go to medical school?

  • @LadyEllex In the US some medical schools require that you have taken calculus, so keep that in mind.

  • @BrainStormTV1 When does IQ say anything about knowledge? Sure IQ helps, but hard work surpasses genius.

  • You a dumb ass. Apparetly so are your classmates. If you can't figure out not to ask leading questions of what the definition of Jaded is, you should not be admitted to medical school. Your IQ is only about 125. I'm ashamed to tell people I'm a doctor after watching your video. You better work a lot harder to make up for your dumb ass ideas about "social medicine" and the like.

  • @BrainStormTV1 Don't lie. You're not a doctor. I assume you're jealous and envious of those that are though, which explains your hostility.

  • @BrainStormTV1 You sound like a jerk which is not a good quality in a doctor. IQ is not the most important thing about being a doctor. If you don't like people you can't develop good rapport with your patients.

  • what are you going for? (medical school)

  • my question is what requirements does it take to become a registered nurse

  • @tia4802 half a brain

  • thanks for posting! i am 19 years old and a biological sciences major at a university in illinois and I take my mcat this summer and im so nervous!!! any advice about the test?

  • what exactly is involved with becoming a surgeon?

  • @jamaoker you have to go to 4 years of college, 4 years of med school to get your phd. and then you have to train in a specific specilization which in your case would be a surgeon. that could be anywhere for 4-6 years extra and then you still have to do your residency i believe. so you would be looking at 12-14 years total

  • @jamaoker you have to go to 4 years of college, 4 years of med school to get your phd. and then you have to train in a specific specilization which in your case would be a surgeon. that could be anywhere from 4-6 years extra and then you still have to do your residency i believe. so you would be looking at 12-14 years total

  • @lightshade0 You've been misinformed. The following is a breakdown of the time requirements for the many levels of medical education:

    Undergraduate degree: 4 years

Medical degree: 4 years (MD/DO/MBBS, etc... PhD is NOT a medical degree)

    * once you get your medical degree, you are technically a doctor, though you have a restricted license *

    Internship: 1 year (PGY-1)

Residency: typically 3 - 5 years, depending on specialization

Fellowship: ~ 2 years, not required (for subspecialty)

  • @loki9118 The common MBBS degree though (UK, Caribbean, Australia etc.) is 5 years and does not require that you have a first degree, as in the US MD programme. In Jamaica, internship is 1 year, and the typical residency is 4 years, leading you to the DM degree.

  • @loki9118 he was just talking about first year. I'm sure he knows how long he'll be in school. Jeff, I think this is a great video. It's insightful for those of us who are considering med school, but it's also reassuring to every future patient (we'll all be there some day) that at least some of teh individuals who make it through med school will retain their humanity and continue to educate themselves on new scientific AND relevant social issues.

  • @metajend Do you see where, at the beginning of my comment which you decided to reply to, it says "@lightshade0"? This means I was responding to lightshade0's comment. If you had looked back on what lightshade0 had written 5 months ago, my remarks would have made more sense, as I wasn't directing them at the creator of this video (usmedstudent) but at a user who thought physicians were PhDs who did residencies after they specialized. Have fun through the application process! Best of luck.

  • @loki9118 Oh. and now I feel retarded...and now I feel insensitive in my terminology...lol yeah, im just gonna stop now

  • good job man. I'm sure you'll make a good doctor some day

  • You're very articulate and well on your way. You will make an excellent physician. This advice is extremely helpful. Thanks!

  • What marks does the average medical school student need to obtain in high school to get accepted?

  • I love this great communication skills wow your be a great doctor.

  • Hey owner of this video message me plzzzzzzzzz

  • @Tomacomo With that language and being being so disrespectful, I hope you don't pass. Seriously, I would not want my doctor saying something like that.

  • @Tomacomo HATER!!
