  • Hearing Eugene speak in Aspen, Colorado, some 18 years ago is what inspired me to seek out Waldorf Education for my children. My two oldest are thriving in college after their K-12 experience at a Steiner school; my youngest is a bright, happy 7th grader starting his 12th year at the same school. I couldn't be happier with the decision to "hold them back" and let them grow naturally. They each have become serious scholars, fluent in three languages, several instruments, and yes, reading.

  • I have found this method healing and speaking deeply to the soul. Most people now days mainstream don't feel deeply.

  • Like it or not...support Waldorf or not...everytime you read texts about Waldorf with concentration and stillness you come away blow away by how amazing it is...AGAIN! I have studied in the US and Sweden and I haven't found any system with this profundity!

  • Well, I think this method is inspiring. There is a spiritual feel that I would have fled from as a charismatic christian, so i get the bashing. However, I am not pentecostal anymore, and it seems to me the approach is acknowledging the spirit in the child. I am going to use this as a homeschool method. I believe introducing a these ideas, but having the ability to temper the info w/ our values... think the method is good, and will use it

  • It was good discussing with you cktuja- sorry you are leaving- I'd be interested to hear your views on the lack of willing availibility Steiner Waldorf shows towards anthroposophy.

  • Anyway, label me as you may, I am open-minded and asked you what educational system you support. I am guessing that you don't support any, just oppose Waldorf.

  • I did reply- I support an open ,liberal arts based education system- where kids can discuss, have opinions, be creative, and have individual freedom, and are respected by their teachers- luckily- having realised Steiner Waldorf provides the opposite to this- we have found an excellent school for our kids.

  • We realised quite late into our time at Steiner school. The schools don't advertise their spiritual science, reincarnation core- their promotional material is all very much like Eugene Swchartz's film here- does it mention anthroposophy? No. They make a point of NOT mentioning it don't they? So they can get on with their main "sacred task"- to mould and fill the empty vessels of children towards reincarnation.

  • WOn one side we find the black race, which is earthly at most. If it moves to the West, it becomes extinct. We also have the yellow race, which is in the middle between earth and the cosmos. If it moves to the East, it becomes brown, attaches itself too much to the cosmos, and becomes extinct. The white race is the future, the race that is creating spirit."ould you want your kid at a school whose founding guru wrote this?"

  • Hold back the child so he/she can excel later? Purple crystals? Swirly pictures, imitations of renaissance art. Shwoing off the best performing monkey. Its all a bunch of hog-wash. Waldorf education is an abomination, and a front for anthroposophical brainwashing.

  • No so. Don't show contempt for what you don't understand.

  • It's sad to see some of the remarks thus far about the Waldorf movmeent.

A Waldorf Education does emphasize spirituality -- but not in a religious context.

The Waldorf motto: Goodness. Truth. And Beauty.

What values could be better for our children?

  • So re-incarnation, spirit world, souls,St Michael, advent spiral etc etc aren't religious? Admittedly blurred with myth, occult, science, Zorastrianism, Hindu beliefs and Steiner's own interpretation of the bible. But it certainly seems religious, wouldn't you say?

  • There is nothing wrong with religion, as long as it is freeing and not exclusive.

  • Or racist?

"The greatest part of the Atlantean population declined, and from a small portion are descended the so-called Aryans who comprise present-day civilized humanity...[T]he Lemurians, Atlanteans, and Aryans are root races of mankind." [COSMIC MEMORY, pp. 45-46.]

  • Define racist. Read more Steiner and you will discover that he was of the mindset that all people are united by their humanity. That lecture was translated and interpreted from the German language and, as you may not know, German cannot always be translated literally to English. Taking a comment out of context from someone's many diverse lectures does not define Steiner as a person, anthroposophy as a religion or Waldort as an educational movement. What educational system do you favor and why?

  • It is extraordinary- every discussion with anthroposophist apologists ends up with them saying these racist comments are"out of context"- and to deny that a belief system that includes reincarnation, souls, angels, spirit world etc, isn't religious is bonkers- (Swchartz thinks it's religious anyway)

  • I realized that I am the only one responding to you and this is the last time I'll waste my time. I never said any "belief system" wasn't religious, did I? Do you even know what Lemurian, Atlantean or Aryan "races" are? My guess is that you are insecure with your ethnic background and so you constantly feel that everyone who is not "like" you is attacking you. I empathize with you.

  • My ethnic backgroung is English/French- I'm proud of it- not remotely insecure. The Steiner Waldorf promoters must feel insecure to hide their real agenda behind something it isn't.For want of repeating myself Why don't they speak openly about their spiritual science- Steiner called people from these mythical lands "root races"- advocates teaching myth as history..I have read alot of Steiner-have you?

  • Waldorf schools hide their real agenda- anthroposophy- they promote the idea of free, liberal creative education- like this film- but the spiritual science/religion isn't mentioned. Anthroposophy informs all choices and decisions about the children. It's duplicitous.

  • Waldorf schools may not "be Steiner"- but they follow his teachings-guru like- with little leaway-the curriculum sticks rigidly to his theories and pedagogy.I support open, liberal progressive creative education. Waldorf pedals this- but is diametrically opposite- rote learning, copying artwork, authoritarian, no questioning of the teacher's word.

  • "This education is essentially grounded on the recognition of the child as a spiritual being, with a varying number of incarnations behind him, who is returning at birth into the physical world, into a body that will be slowly moulded into a usable instrument by the soul-spiritual forces he brings with him " Rudolf Steiner

  • Children growing up with one teacher for 8 years creates a problem. What is the teacher is narrowminded? The children can't get diversified information from different teachers. Sending kids to these schools, you are only hurting them.

  • Teachers in a Waldorf school tend to work harder at meeting the students than they do in a public school. Maybe it's because they know that they're on an eight year journey with the student.

  • Unfortunately, in today's modern world, it doesn't often happen that Waldorf teachers stay with a class for eight years.

But what a difference in you see in those classes where this goal is met. The teacher is more than just a teacher -- but almost family member.

A journey of eight years together is such a wonderful, refreshing experience in today's modern world.

  • In steiner waldorf the teacher is seen as having a sacred task in helping the children to reincarnate. The teacher is far more important than the parent. The teacher/child relationship is sen as karmic.

  • You really should read more about the system or pay attention to the vid. The children have a class teacher, like a form teacher and they have other teachers who teach other subjects, but their class teacher stays with them over 8 years. My parents never even knew my teachers at school. Waldorf teachers become part of the family.

  • Sending a child to public schools surely hurts them! Children are exposed to many people in their lives, not just school teachers. The children in "Waldorf" schools have other teachers as well, for different subjects such as handwork, foreign languages and eurythmy.(Eurythmy is a movement class, using spacial dynamics techniques and movement techniques that is in harmony with speech and sounds.)

  • Are you seriously saying that sending kids to a school hurts them? Feeding children sugar and presrvatives and dyes and antibiotics hurts them. By the way, it's "narrow-minded".

  • Diagnosos' like dyslexia, ahdd, learning difficulties and left-handedness(!) are seen as incarnation problems by Steiner Waldorf.Don't be fooled by the "whole natural child centred learnig" sold by Steiner Waldorf- there is a more sinister agenda. They are watched as a cult in m,any countries.

  • Yes, their whole Mythology-over-History clearly tells you it's a cult.

  • Sinister, threatening evil or harm? Shirley you jest? I find your comments sinister.

  • "If the blonds and blue-eyed people die out, the human race will become increasingly dense...Blond hair actually bestows intelligence. In the case of fair people, less nourishment is driven into the eyes and hair; it remains instead in the brain and endows it with intelligence. Brown- and dark-haired people drive the substances into their eyes and hair that the fair people retain in their brains." [Rudolf Steiner, HEALTH AND ILLNESS, (Anthroposophic Press, 1981)

  • I have seen these comments on the "Waldorf Critics" website. What are you afraid of? Waldorf schools are not Rudolf Steiner and the education of our children today is something that deserves much observation and consideration. People who send their children to one school or another do so because they want the best for their children. What educational program do you support? Why do you feel that his type of education is worth supporting?

  • The fact that the schools are deceptive from the start about their true nature- Steiner Waldorf have the fear you mention- of being open about anthroposophy, spiritual science and their religion. The racist "root race" element is still prevelant-anthroposophists have yet to deny it.

  • It would be appropriate to include the fact that Steiner waldorf education is rooted in the spritual science/religion anthroposophy which has core beliefs of re incarnation, cosmic and astral forces, occult clairvoyance, aryan supremecy and gnomes as real life forces. They are reluctant to speak openly about it.

  • Yeah, we know. You seem to have posted the same message many, many times. Your history: 24 channel views, probably all Steiner-related, posting the same comment again and again. I think you're a cult.

  • This is a fascinating video. My son has been diagnosed with Irlene Syndrome and is having to relearn his reading and writing skills with his coloured lenses. I am looking for alternative ways to help him;this is inspiring.

  • Waldorf sees any learning difficulty- and even left handedness as an incarnation problem. They are not what they seem- read about anthroposophy before making a choice. They are cult like and different to the face they pedal.

  • I am so glad this video is here. Very good!!!

  • Eugene
