@ErikMogan yeah he and the doctor have that in common. They are probaly the lonelyest and oldest beings in the universe and of course the coolest. :) I mean Jack lives to be like 5 billion years old! In torchwood he is already around 150 years old. It is hard for us to really understand what that means. But we can see that he is very lonely. :) Great observation ErikMogan.

Even more so as they have these (semi)-immortal characters such as The Doctor or Captain Jack, but never really go into the consequences --- occasionally they hint at it, but that's about it. So the "he's seen countless people come and go" isn't usually the first thing that comes up when you think about these.
