@bob12884 he was probably just a normal soldier who knew how to use a gun......doubt he's an expert with all of those guns when all you need to learn is how to load a mag, pull a lever and squeeze your finger
My friend tried to sell me a bayonet from WW2 that he got from his grandfather, but it has blood from a Japaneses guy on it. It has this really bad shied to it but is it worth it for $30?
@ComedyProcedures I never said anything about Vietnam, I said my grandpa fought in the KOREAN WAR (where the US was aided by the British) you fucking dumbass
The order I feared the most was, 'Fix Bayonets'. Not often used, but handy to have when there was need. Glad I was well trained. Does take quick action, so don't dally.
if i have to take over a city with soldirs only the first order will be FIX BAYONETS!!!!!!!! and then charge into the city the reason for fixing bayonets is because its a close combat situation, its a ammo saving messure because u dont waste ammo that way and it increases soldiers morale. by my thinking bayontsare as cruel as any weapon in some cases its even more humane because once u make stab with the bayo hes dead before he hits the ground while bullets kill intantly only with headshoots
So I read that the US Army officially called off bayonet training in 2010. What a waste! Martial fighting skills are preferably noble. I don't know if modern morality considers stabbing too cruel while killing with bullets is more distant to oneself.
@himsonli Well, bayonets are pretty much useless nowadays. With such long range weaponry and massively destructive power, bayonet training doesn't really make sense. Close quarter fighting is still necessary of course, for obvious reasons.
They mentioned Biddle who was the officer who came up with their combat system. His background included boxing, wrestling, and jujitsu. They also looked into savate, sword fighting, knife fighting as well as bayonetting, so even from that period they had an extensive martial arts system.
My grandpa has a bayonet he stole from a British guy back in the korean war, and its all tarnished and worn. Should I try to clean it up, or leave it the way it is?
and, what would be the best thing to use in removing tarnish from the blade?
I think I saw my grandpa clening a Japanese bayonet, I think is Arisaka rifle's bayonet because Japanese closing in from China to Malaysia, he use a piece of paper(I don't know what kind of paper of that.) rub up'n down, and later he rub the bayonet with some liquid(white in color), after some hour, I saw he wash the bayonet with water.
@SmashingJack420 The way I see it you might want to put a little gun oil on it.I won't hurt it any and will improve the way it looks as well as remove some rust if any is present.Just as long as you try not to modify your bayonet it should be fine ,and wether you decide to put gun oil on it or not the value of your bayonet should stay the same both ways.
@SmashingJack420 that tarnish is called patina, it actually protect the steel, DO NOT clean it. leave it like that, if you touch it it would loose the patina AND THE VALUE.
Modern warfare is actually calling for shit like bayonets and shotguns to be used once again. FIBUA training is becoming vital, and trench warfare is starting to fade.
Remember, its in trench warfare that long ranged weaponry, such as the LSW and GPMG are being used, and in the BUA warfare of todays wars, weapons with such long range and long barrels are becoming dangerous to the users.
elephantintheroom01 with all due respect, your talkin about a U.S. Army training video, this helped us win the war with the Japs, cause you know how Japs are "hiiiiyaaa" all about the melee.

@Slic3R1 Actually the Marines lost more men in Vietnam than they did in WWII.

Step 2: Move on to the next target.
Step 3: Repeat.
