"Being a devout Christian means you're critical thinking development has been retarded" Who is to say that a Christian can not think critically. Atheists saying this about Christians is like the Southern plantation owners in the early 1800s calling blacks dumb and all they are good for is work. Well there were many intelligent black people in history and today that would beg to differ. There are many intelligent Christians today that think critically that would beg to differ.
Hey I have nothing to do with child abuse yet I will speak out against it. So if I speak out against religion, what's the difference? I am against both, so of course I would speak out against them. Both cause harm and both should be dealt with accordingly.
@damienKaos Then I hate to echo HoweFactor here but if that is the case, you're retarded in two ways. Being a devout Christian means you're critical thinking development has been retarded and thinking that saying "retard" in the context of "fire retardant" or "critical thinking development has been retarded" is offensive in the same way as calling someone a retard is itself, retarded.
Assuming that you are either Christian or Jew, it's the book called "The Bible". Exodus 20:2 "I am the LORD thy God" That's the first commandment, and don't forget that the punishment for breaking a commandment is death.
Their idea of self is a fucking mind fetish, in a way that they can never understand in just a moment. I mean, the idea of identity is the base of god, most times, and it is just a consequence of our bodily disposition lol. It is wrong, in my opinion, in a survival-friendly way. To formulate a mind-set based on that wrong idea, and whatever others there are, is a fucking ass-pain, for all of us, but we are in information age. Why don't we use it? What can we be if we do, or what can we not be?:P
I always have a problem when people bring up the RCC being against condom use. It's the only point I disagree with you on here. The reason for this is because the RCC isn't asking people to stop using condoms when having sex, they're asking people to stop having sex altogether unless they are married and intend on having kids. Catholics (RC) should know this. There is no excuse for a RC to have sex without condoms. If they are going to break one rule, they might as well break both.
@HonestDiscussioner Married couples are not supposed to wear condoms, but it's a RCC doctrine that sex is only supposed to happen under the following conditions: a) within the context of marriage and b) ONLY for the sake of procreation.
@gambleor How about families having more children than they are able to feed? How about psychological damage from the guilt of having people think they are wrong to want sex for reasons other than procreation?
@HonestDiscussioner That's not an argument against condom use being referred to in the video though. In any case, even if they are having sex without condoms, if they believe in RCC doctrine about sex, they will feel guilty about it anyway. They might as well use them and prevent themselves from making the mistake of bringing a child into the world that they won't be able to feed.
@gambleor You also have to take into consideration that many RCC clergymen are regulatory documented telling their flocks that condoms are made with tiny holes that allow the AIDS virus to be transmitted, that condoms not only don't prevent but actually spread HIV and that since they don't see animals using condoms, condom use is therefore against God's will. ALL of these things lead inexorably to the fact that many RCs believe that condoms are evil.
@themanofearth I'm not arguing that clergymen are saying things they shouldn't, I'm arguing that what they are saying isn't doctrinally sound. RCC doctrine is a pro-abstinence movement. It's actual message is that sexual contact, protected or not, increases the risk of HIV spreading whereas abstinence is a practically foolproof method of quarantining the virus. Do you disagree with that assessment of theirs?
@gambleor "...what they are saying isn't doctrinally sound." And this matters because...?
The bottom line here is that they are using their position to assert things that discourage condom use thereby demonizing condoms because of abstinence "encouragement". People who are brought up being taught about sex by religiously influenced educators are 9 times more likely to have unprotected sex when they do have sex (which is on average delayed 18 months) then people who were educated properly.
@themanofearth Those statistics you mentioned actually show that these people are being inconsistent with their upbringing anyway. Do you really think that they chose to have condomless sex because it was demonized when sex in general has also been demonized by that same authority? Something doesn't add up here.
@gambleor I think I understand what you're saying however it's almost meaningless. To put it in an analogy:
Imagine you have massive influence over a person. What's the difference between telling them, "cut your hair" and telling them, "your hair is too long."
Can you split the difference? Yes, but the difference is so trivial that it doesn't warrant scrutiny when you consider the message and how either statement will be interpreted by the person you have influence over.
@themanofearth It's not that trivial. Compare the actual statements - "Condoms with allow HIV to spread and abstinence is the only method that will really prevent it" vs. "condoms are made with holes in them so that HIV can be spread more readily and that's why you shouldn't use condoms." is not the same as "cut your hair" vs. "your hair is too long."
Sorry Adam, gonna have to side with the theists on this one. We have no business having anything to do with things we don't believe in.
I mean, theists are entirely consistent on this point. They never try to let their children know that Santa Claus doesn't exist. They certainly don't try to point out how other religions' gods don't exist.
And religion causing social damage? Come on, they do charity work. Everyone knows if you cut off someone's genitals, giving them money makes it ALL BETTER.
@HonestDiscussioner You have a point and I am ashamed to have tried to put one over on you and all of the YouTube world. I must beg your and God's forgiveness...

the reason christians and religious people dont think stem cell research should go on is because whether it be a physically or mentally disabling or a life threatening one, they believe that god, karma, fate or whatever you want to call it has chosen those people to be handicapped or to die. and who are we as mere mortals to try and stop it.
i mean if god really cared about the lame or the dying he wouldnt have made them so.
@AceofDiamonds0 So are you arguing against all types of health care. By this argument, we should just get rid of hospitals and doctors around the world, because why should we help the sick and dying? If they're sick and dying, obviously god "chose those people to be handicapped or to die". This is a weak and illogical argument.
@Licmycat Actually that's been in dispute ever since Hitler died and you can no more assert that than I can assert that he was a Christian though there is more evidence that he believed in the god of Abraham and his supposed son Jesus than there is to suggest that he didn't.

@Licmycat Uhm..., so fucking what? Religious people love to argue that Hitler was an atheist. But how does it have any relevance? There is no ''atheist doctrine'' that tells you to kill people for no reason. Hitler was a psychopath.
If you want to talk about religiously motivated genocide, why not also consider the inquisition led by the catholic church, or the killing of indigenous people during the conquest of America.
Stop shoving Hitler up peoples asses when it comes to atheism.
There you go. Your job is to prove those power-lusting anti-Christs are lying when they call themselves Christians when they are working to take power over America in their political 'church' agencies. They clearly don't read the bible when they are against science. Here is the scripture u can use: Daniel 1:4
@themanofearth Then ur a lazy warlock. You don't wanna do nothing for nobody don't expect anyone to do anything for you. What you give you shall receive. Nothing is nothing from nothing. Repent before GOD'S wrath cometh. Ephesians 5:6
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
@Licmycat LMFAO!!! What the FUCK are you smoking! That (i.e. everything beyond your original posting(s)) made as much sense as a armless man trying to do pull-ups.
Hey, don't put people who are into BDSM in the same camp as pedophiles and child abusers. Then again I might be completely misunderstanding your meaning of sexual sadists. lol.
To answer your question. You could be an apathetic dickhole. That would make it unimportant to you.
@Jonstern1983 Oh my... No, that wasn't my intent at all to place BDSM in the same camp at all. Some of my very best friends are into BDSM. Sexual sadism BDSM style is consensual, this is criminal because it's not consensual.
"You could be an apathetic dickhole. That would make it unimportant to you." True but then I wouldn't be compassionate, caring or a humanist would I?
Governments commit crimes equal or greater to that of religion. Yet they are not universally and unequivocally opposed, or wiped from the face of the earth.... although I wish they would be.
@truthadvocate To what comment are you replying? There is a difference, Government fulfills an actual need, and while I agree that it often goes too far, and usually does not have the best interests of the common people in mind. We need things like environmental and consumer protection, a police force, heath-care, education, and equal opportunities to live where you want, and work where you are capable (I mean physically and mentally). Religion serves no real purpose other than existing.
Replying to your statement in the video at 5:14 "If this were any other phenomenon causing these things as religion does, ... a political group, a government... it would be universally & unequivocally opposed... & every effort would be made to wipe it from the face of the earth..."
I agree there are needs (consumer protection, healthcare, etc) but they cannot be effectively filled by a coercive monopoly. Government serves a purpose. To benefit those in power. Same as religion.
@themanofearth Ah, my mistake then. I didn't mean to quote mine you there. I just thought I heard something that wouldn't make any sense coming from you anyway.
@PluralOfEverything No worries: I didn't think you were quote mining me because you didn't make any assertions coupled to the misquote. You're cool. :-)
YESS!!! Finally! I've now heard all atheism stuff recited so many times I can officially stop giving a damn and continue doing other stuff without wanting to be atheistic at people!
I am not a thief - I assume you are not a thief and I assume most theists are not thieves... But all of us are concerned about thieves. Why? Because of the bad things thieves do.
The capacity for empathy and the desire for justice by definition exclude apathy towards religion if you understand that dearly held comprehensive world views based on shoddy reasoning affect public policy.
I teach bio in a public school in NC, which came in 36th in the nation for preparing students in the sciences. I have witnessed many teachers in my science dept spinning god into the lectures or telling students they don't have to believe in what they are teaching them in class. I am flabergasted, on a daily basis, as to how religion seeps into our science classes every day. Some of these same teachers deny AGW as well and pass this on to the students. Sad shit going on.
@saxmanchiro That is sad and infuriating. I have had numerous discussions about how science education needs to changed to promote more critical thinking and basic understanding of how science works, but we at least assume they are being taught the right facts. I'm at a lost for words about this and can't understand why science teachers, which I would assume have some science background, thinks the science classroom is any place for religion. People can have religion, but keep it out of science
@vnorthru I attended a 3-day workshop on biofuels recently and asked a few of the teachers(science) how their students were handling AGW info. All three denied AGW right to my face. I held my tongue and asked about other parts of the curriculum like T of E and even fossils. They denied those too. I almost shit myself. It was hard for me to continue with them but I asked them what evidence they possessed to be going against these scientific facts. Of course, none was provided. I lost it.
@saxmanchiro You are much more patient than me, I would have lost it quicker. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to be in that environment. This just scares me for the future since it will make the next generation ignorant of actual science, which is going to make science funding even worse than the abysmal state it's in now. Hopefully good science teachers like yourself that actually know what they are teaching will be able to make a difference and expose the others for their bs
@vnorthru About 2 yrs ago, during one of our dept meetings, I got up and addressed the fact that there were some teachers(Baptists) who were denying AGW and opining this in class. Several teachers got in my face and told me it was all political, and not true. I told them that they were wrong and they just laughed at me. Since then, we have had a few of them leave, retire or change jobs, with some fresh new grads coming into the dept who do teach it correctly.
@saxmanchiro Hopefully that trend of getting new grads ones that are educated continues cause teaching them false information does not help the student especially if they go on to post secondary studies in science or anything for that matter. I do think it's better for a society for its citizens to be educated and therefore make more informed decisions, though I realize some disagree. I'm sure most churches would hate if everyone learned to think for themselves, it would cut into their profits
@saxmanchiro This makes me sad. I know I wasn't taught creationism in science class (granted, I'm from BC Canada, and this was back in the 90s) but I wasn't taught anything that would oppose creation either. It was only a year or two ago that I realized I had no clue how evolution works, and had been accepting that "it occurs", on faith. Well, that and fossil records. I've read a lot since then, and intend to keep reading.
@saxmanchiro Wow, sad state you're in (pun intended). Keep fighting... some will sink in, the seeds of doubt will grow and this diluted fantasy will end (I hope). Good luck.

Licmycat 7 months ago
@Licmycat Read the freakin' bible! It SPECIFICALLY says to kill unruly children. It SPECIFICALLY condones slavery!

@Licmycat Interesting passage however that's really not my job, that's yours. You should watch my video,

for a more clear idea of why I think you're wrong.

Revelation 6:17
For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Hey, don't put people who are into BDSM in the same camp as pedophiles and child abusers. Then again I might be completely misunderstanding your meaning of sexual sadists. lol.
To answer your question. You could be an apathetic dickhole. That would make it unimportant to you.
Jonstern1983 7 months ago
@Jonstern1983 Oh my... No, that wasn't my intent at all to place BDSM in the same camp at all. Some of my very best friends are into BDSM. Sexual sadism BDSM style is consensual, this is criminal because it's not consensual.
"You could be an apathetic dickhole. That would make it unimportant to you." True but then I wouldn't be compassionate, caring or a humanist would I?
themanofearth 7 months ago
@themanofearth True.... I forgot about those things lol.

@Jonstern1983,
Governments commit crimes equal or greater to that of religion. Yet they are not universally and unequivocally opposed, or wiped from the face of the earth.... although I wish they would be.
Love this video.
truthadvocate 7 months ago
@truthadvocate To what comment are you replying? There is a difference, Government fulfills an actual need, and while I agree that it often goes too far, and usually does not have the best interests of the common people in mind. We need things like environmental and consumer protection, a police force, heath-care, education, and equal opportunities to live where you want, and work where you are capable (I mean physically and mentally). Religion serves no real purpose other than existing.
Jonstern1983 7 months ago
@Jonstern1983,
Replying to your statement in the video at 5:14 "If this were any other phenomenon causing these things as religion does, ... a political group, a government... it would be universally & unequivocally opposed... & every effort would be made to wipe it from the face of the earth..."
I agree there are needs (consumer protection, healthcare, etc) but they cannot be effectively filled by a coercive monopoly. Government serves a purpose. To benefit those in power. Same as religion.

@PluralOfEverything Uh... no. the quote you're referring to actually goes, "...gay person or woman who has been raped or child..."

Sad shit going on.
saxmanchiro 7 months ago 16
@saxmanchiro No doubt...
themanofearth 7 months ago
@saxmanchiro That is sad and infuriating. I have had numerous discussions about how science education needs to changed to promote more critical thinking and basic understanding of how science works, but we at least assume they are being taught the right facts. I'm at a lost for words about this and can't understand why science teachers, which I would assume have some science background, thinks the science classroom is any place for religion. People can have religion, but keep it out of science
vnorthru 7 months ago
@vnorthru I attended a 3-day workshop on biofuels recently and asked a few of the teachers(science) how their students were handling AGW info. All three denied AGW right to my face. I held my tongue and asked about other parts of the curriculum like T of E and even fossils. They denied those too. I almost shit myself. It was hard for me to continue with them but I asked them what evidence they possessed to be going against these scientific facts. Of course, none was provided. I lost it.
saxmanchiro 7 months ago
@saxmanchiro You are much more patient than me, I would have lost it quicker. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to be in that environment. This just scares me for the future since it will make the next generation ignorant of actual science, which is going to make science funding even worse than the abysmal state it's in now. Hopefully good science teachers like yourself that actually know what they are teaching will be able to make a difference and expose the others for their bs
vnorthru 7 months ago
@vnorthru About 2 yrs ago, during one of our dept meetings, I got up and addressed the fact that there were some teachers(Baptists) who were denying AGW and opining this in class. Several teachers got in my face and told me it was all political, and not true. I told them that they were wrong and they just laughed at me. Since then, we have had a few of them leave, retire or change jobs, with some fresh new grads coming into the dept who do teach it correctly.
saxmanchiro 7 months ago
