  • Thank you rick for teaching me a new word to use in my regular vocabulary; Troglodyte!

  • this was helpful and it was great to see Betty's other half. Thanks to the both of you for doing these videos!

  • Lovely! We had ham at my in laws for Thanksgiving. Now its my turn on Christmas to make turkey! This was very helpful =)

  • wow that's good to know about which way to crave cause I knew about cutting across the grain for like cornbeef and skirt steaks. That's funny how just the way you crave some meat can make it hard to eat or make it very stringy. This was a very informational video, thanks for sharing.

  • You guys should be a Face Book,I put your videos on Face Book for all to see.

  • @nicestman77 Thanks! I appreciate that!

    --Betty :)

  • Great to see you are still up,it is 9.19am Wednesday here.

  • AHhhhh!! Rick don't go away,we love you both.

1 question, did the dog get any scraps?

You guys must not sleep at night thinking of what to de next, would be a challange.

  • @nicestman77 Have you seen our dog? He gets plenty of scraps.

    --Rick

  • Lovely people!!! thanks Rick, will have to get you a chef's hat,you made it look so easy, can't wait till I get the next emal with your new video.

  • @nicestman77 Thanks for the compliment, but I don't need to be fitted for a chef's hat. I may help out with videos in the future, especially those dealing with equipment, but am now ready to resume my proper place behind the lens.

    --Rick

  • I am going to get a roasting pan for roasting chicken and turkey and making sandwiches. This is great

  • @nancydrew5 That's great! You will enjoy the roasting pan!

    --Betty :)

  • My mouth is watering. Poor dog that must bet torture for him to be in that kitchen at that time. Doggies have sensitive noses. I hope he at least got a little piece of turkey. I love each and everyone of your videos because they make me feel like a guest in your home.

  • @nancydrew5 Yes, Remy got his share of the turkey! Thanks for your lovely comment!

    --Betty :)

    --Betty :)

  • Man, that is one tender bird!

Handsome guy. . . .I hate 'im. LOL

He's spot on about cutting across the grain, it really does the trick. Don't test your knife that way though, it'll ruin your manicure. LOL. Thanks for adding that gravy there at the end. Yum!

  • @ironbuttermilk Hi! I really got behind in my comments, but I wanted to thank you for your nice comment on the turkey carving!

  • Hey Betty, wishin' Rick and you a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! Yeah, sure was helpful, so instead of havin' the big roasted bird there on the dining table, ya have the meat carved and ready for servings,.....AWESOME!! And leftover turkey,....hmm...it'll make some MIGHTY FINE turkey sandwiches! = )

  • Thanks for your comment on the carving! I will pass it on to Rick! Yes, when the turkey is carved properly, you get some nice leftover slices for turkey sandwiches! And for the leftover chunks of turkey, I will have a recipe for you tomorrow!

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Delia!

Rick and I both grew up eating turkey that was just hacked from the bone, so we decided to do it a little more manageably! Thanks for your sweet comment!

    --Betty :)

    --Betty :)

  • Haha, caveman-style! That's the true way of eating bone-in meat.

  • That's the way Rick likes to eat his turkey legs! Thanks for commenting!

    --Betty :)

  • Thank you. I am a 65-year old first time cook. This video was most helpful especially the part of cutting across the grain of the meat and the final presentation platter. Ignatius

  • Hi Ignatius!

Thanks for your lovely comment! I will pass your message along to Rick!

    --Betty :)

  • yes , always juicy and tender too ;)

  • That's the way turkey is best! Thanks for your comment!

    --Betty :)

  • It was so nice to see the Camera Man in the lime light. Just want to suggest to folks who have limited hand and arm strength that an electric knife can be used... follow Rick's instructions, of course!!! Thank you both... I truly look forward to seeing you each day or so. Happy holidays and please continue bringing us joy in 2010.

  • Hi Patsy! That's a good idea about using an electric knife! I will tell Rick that you liked his instructions! You have been a continual source of great information for me, Patsy! Happy Holidays to you!

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks for this video Rick & Betty. Happy Holidays! I hope you gave the dog a bite!

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks Rick for the tutorial very good information given. I think all of us wold like to see more of Rick cooking in the kitchen, maybe you both could cook something together. Happy Thanksgiving to you both and your family.

  • HI, this is Rick answering this particular comment. First, thank you (and everyone else) for your kind comments. Second, there's a reason why Betty is doing the cooking videos and not me. It's been her lifelong passion to create and collect recipes. It's been mine to enjoy her cullinary efforts. I might make the occasional cameo appearance in an area where I have some slight experience, but--trust me on this--you really are better served watching Betty in the kitchen.

    Happy holidays,

    Rick

  • Hey Betty what a cutie pie Hubby.. You make a handsome couple

  • Thanks for your nice comment! I will pass it along to Rick!

    --Betty :)

  • I love it cooked that way, if legs are falling off, is great , don't want to be fighting to get meat off bone, very good 5+

  • Thanks for your sweet comment! I think it should be juicy and tender, too!

    --Betty :)

  • Looks nice and elegant. I'll try these tips with my rotisserie chicken for turkey day. I usually end up hacking the bird. Not a pretty sight =)

    --Betty :)

  • u know Rick's a softee after the pup came back the second time also thanx 4 the knife tip!!

  • Yep, Rick is the "soft touch" in this family! I'm glad you appreciated the knife tip. There was a mention of it earlier implying that it shouldn't have been there. Obviously, I can't take it out, and I am very glad that you appreciated it! I will pass it along to Rick!

    --Betty :)

  • Thank you very much usually when i carve a turkey I end up butchering it ! this video was very helpful.

  • Rick and I both grew up in homes where Thanksgiving was a really big celebration. The turkey was always brown and lovely, but eventually got hacked and chopped into unrecognizable pieces. We decided to pursue a methode of getting a good presentation for the turkey. I'm glad you can use the video! I will pass this along to Rick!

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks for your comment! I wish you and your family the happiest of all Thanksgivings!

    --Betty :)

  • Doggonit Betty, would you just try to make a less tender turkey next time! I think Rick was getting frustrated by the ease in which he was able to remove the meat from the bone (wahhhh). Just kidding! ; ) I love to carve in the kitchen and present like you did. Just thought I would give you a good ribbing! Thanks!

  • Yes, I could tell Rick was getting distressed that the turkey was more tender than he expected. However, it was very good! The carving and garnishing the food is part of the fun of Thanksgiving! Thanks for your lovely comment!

    --Betty :)

  • I loved the cameo appearance by the puppy. This video will be helpful come Thanksgiving - thx!

  • Remy, the "miniature" poodle knows better than to beg food from me while I'm cooking. Rick is the soft touch. I'm glad you find the video useful! I will pass it along to Rick!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty & Rick, you may want to place a disclaimer on this video about the dangers of using one's thumbnail as a sharpness tester! There are some people out there that....well, you know!

  • Happy Thankgiving to Betty, Rick and Family. Turkey looks so delicious.... Excellent job Rick!!!! 10 stars.

  • Thanks for the Thanksgiving wish for our family! Also thanks for the compliment on the turkey and the carving! I will pass it along to Rick!
