Transit2203, what about MetroLINK in California, United states? Last time I checked the whole fleet was double decker trains.

@dontwalkhand MetroLINK don't operate suburban services. But yes their entire fleet of 100 odd cars are double decker. CityRail however operate more than 1500 electrified cars. Sadly rail infrastructure appears to be poor in LA.

@dontwalkhand Still Australia has a far better transport network then the USA has to offer. Plus most of the state of NSW has electrified overhead lines. & there 2 new project that havent started yet but will soon. 1 is somethink about completely Electrified the Whole state railway lines.. & the 2nd project is about the New high speed rail link down the whole east coast of Australia.. I kinda doubt they'll get that going but i have high hopes they'll have it up in running real soon..

I agree i wish Connex had trains like City Rail then they could fit more people on lolz i have been on a Connex train during Christmas time and it can be very hard to move especialy wen theres cricket on in melbourne thats really bad thats why i love the country lolz no suburban trains just a local bus around town and taxis ahhh country life so relaxing lolz :-P

Melbourne did have a double deck train as a Trail! it was called the 4D... I Dont exactly know what happened to it but... it would of been good to have some Double Deck trains in Melb it would solve conjestion during Peak.

It's not about how modern and snazzy the trains are.

it's about how reliable the system is. Whether all the trains come on time. How frequently they come. Whether I have to be waiting for 20 minutes just for a train.

If it was a competition between a crap network with snazzy trains and a good network with old trains, I'd go with the old trans with good network.

Having double decker trains isn't the best way to solve congestion. Just having more frequent services would do it.

About a month ago in Brisbane it was proposed to add a 7th carriage to the trains during peak.... everyone thought that was a brilliant idea, but the majority of the population didn't realise that the platforms are too short. That's a different situation, but it's still funny. Stupid bureaucrats don't work for the benefit of the people, they only work to get votes.

ive cought brisbane transport quite a bit... Most Brisbane Trains have really bad Frequency Compared to Melbourne but its not that bad... Melbourne has a More Conjested Train Network then Brisbane by FAR!!! theres not enough Trains or Track!!! But i Dont Blame Connex its the Goverments Fault!

Well, I suppose they would be classified as 'on time' when compared to cityrail, but honestly it isn't that good, it's actually quite terrible.

Maybe once in every 2.5 weeks, my train particular train is delayed by a substantial amount of time for things like track maintenance, stormy weather, someone who jumped off the overpass just irregular things like that, and that's just my particular train, what about all the other services.

Plus there is the normal + or - 5 minute delays every day.

I know what you mean about the frequency, it's terrible. Government doesn't do anything about PT. They are building multi million dollar road projects, tunnels, bridges, extra lanes and virtually nothing is being done for trains.

What is the frequency of Melbourne trains during peak? and what is the freq off peak?

i only know the frankston line of the back of my head...

Peak here is different to Brizzy's... During Morning Peak like 4 Trains goto city and one is going the opasite way lol... You Generally See 3 Trains pass you with "Not In Service"..

During Peak: 6-8 Min Freq

Off-Peak: 20 Min

Late Night: 30 Min

Weekends (1am-6am) Night Rider Bus Takes over and runs every 30 minutes....

Thats the Frankston Line...

But Cranbourne Line is horriable... like during peak you still wait 25 mins for a train lol

wow that's exceppent for the frankston line. Even on the Ipswich line which is one of Brisbane's busiest, it only gets to about 15 min freq during peak.

our trains stay packed LOL!

by the last station there is sometimes people still standing...

And when our trains get to the City Loop as its called... everyone gets off and your like "about time" then a pack more jump on and conjest the train again! i dont even know where the people are comming from

What peeves me off allot about the trains is the sluggishness of the train operators.

You're at a station, everyone is on the train. and honestly you wait about 5 seconds before you doors actually close. Things like waiting for the doors to open, they only release the doors after the train has completely stopped, and even then you have to push the button and wait for the doors to crawl open.

Just little things like that hold up the system.

LOL MELB DOESNT DO THAT...

becouse our WHOLE PT is privatised they get fined for not being on time... if you get on a bus they start driving as your paying for a ticket... and trains some times have opened there doors before they fully stopped!

melbournes warning sound is quicker then brisbanes, all our stations are straight meaning we dont have someone getting out blowing a wistle lol... we just have a mirror on the train... and the stations that are curvey have a TV Screen showing the driver

oohhh, I wish Brisbane trains were like Melbourne.

That's really great that they get penalised for being late. That way, it is in the driver's interest to be on time.

and I know what you mean about the curvy stations in Bane haha. First one guy gets out, blows a whistle, waits, then the other guy blows the whistle, then two dinging noises, theeen the electronic voice that says "doors closing please stand clear".

lol i know i visit brizzy all the time.. the first time i got on a brisbane train i was confused so much... our trains just beep really fast.. the Xtrap Trains though only go "Beep Beep Beep" slowly.. ill record it one day lol..

eg. Paris Metro system:

before the train even comes to a complete stop, the doors release, adding that extra 3 seconds. Everyone gets out, then people get in, trains make a short warning noise then doors hastily shut, train accelerates off.

The whole process is done so much faster.

Welcome to the only city in the world, where it's entire suburban fleet consists of double decker cars. The platform height is no different to anywhere else in the world

hey, i was just recently in sydney (im originally from sydney, but movied way up north), and i caught like 30 trains and almost all of them were M sets, these would have to be the best sets out of all of them

The older Trains, especially the early ones from the early to late 80's are the best. They have better seating capacity, and some don't have air con, which is good because sometimes air con is not always good for everyone.
