  • Michala is a great technician, for sure. But there are alternatives which mix technique and expression a bit better. Sadly not many people know it... Search for instance youtube.com/watch?v=RYk-q9Nmcbs or others alike

  • OMG!

  • @torsora That's what I said!!!!

  • INCREIBLE, ME ENAMORO JE

  • ..excuse me while I'll go to burn my recorders.

    This is just pure talent.

  • It kept me awake all night!

  • very nice

  • Does anyone knows where I can find the score of this eddition? It sounds SO COOL that I want to pratice and play it!!!

  • Excellent comment, crumblyfairy. When I tell people that I am a member of the Los Angeles Recorder Orchestra, they tend to picture a whole bunch of adults playing Mary Had a Little Lamb on plastic recorders. Little do they know...

  • Michala Petri shreds!!!!!!!!

Godt at se denne genre med så flot dansk repræsentation!:D

  • divine

  • 俺の知ってるリコーダーじゃない

  • wow!!

  • Oh my god playing Devil's thrill sonata with a recorder? That's so great.

  • besides that: perfect performance

  • I love the clarity of the sound, also technically. You never reach that with a transverse flute..

  • Devil's Trill, no kidding. Holy shit this woman is talented!

  • am i wrong or does the recorder at some places sound like out of tune !?

  • @nisa06 With all due respect, perhaps you're just tone f. deaf !!

  • @gmtdiato why putting so much energy into giving an answer thats simply nonsense, dont u have any hobbies or what ? it is a known fact that woodwinds played in higher registers have the problems of keeping the pitch. its a general known problem to every flute-maker and has something to do with the inner form of the flutes tube which should be a little conic. i doubt michala is playing a bad instrument, but i just wanted to check if there are others having the same experience listening to this.

  • @nisa06 Pitch in a recorder is particularly sensitive to breath pressure, which unfortunately gives it a very limited dynamic range. Yes there are places where her intonation is a little off, but I doubt that's in any way the manufacturer's fault, the note is just slightly overblown. There is an A-Bb trill somewhere which sounds more obviously off, but it's impossible to execute an exact A-Bb trill for fingering reasons.

But it's still a million times better than anything I could achieve.

  • @cloisterina thnx very much, thats what i wanted to know ;)

  • @nisa06 yes i do have hobbies, including music, and have admired michala for quite some years.( i still don't

understand your first comment, perhaps you should get out more.)

  • best ever recorder song i ever heard.........

  • Amazing !!!

  • 惊叹!

    美妙的音乐,美妙的一对。

  • @kuaileren88 Totaly agree, my asian friend!

  • Wonderful rendition.

  • I will suffer three strokes before I can get to play that.

  • Years of devoted practice combined with a natural born ability. Just incredible.

  • that cadenza is just crazyyyyyy

  • People like this make me want to either really forge onward, or break my pathetic recorder to pieces. All hail the Sopranino!

  • I have no words

  • This is AMAZING. However, the first part is missing. Is there a version available that is complete? I would loe to see it.

  • most impressive cadenza I ever heard. I probably couldn't even play that on my western concert flute.

  • ....Sheet music?!?! I must try this!!! Even if it takes me 100 years!!!!

  • Did she make this version? Because the original is for violin right? This is sick...

  • she makes my recorder playing look absolutely awful!

  • Fooooooooooooooooooormidable!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That was amazing!!!!

  • At first glance, I thought this video was computer animated!

But it is indeed a perfect performance!

  • Michala's aptitude on her instrument is at the highest level; I never fail to be inspired when i listen to such incredible music coming from her. Bravo on Lars as well. It's something to be said a performance so close to perfection could only come from the Devil, but it's truly heavenly!

  • One word... perfect.

  • Absolutely incredible!

  • Oh. My, God AWESOME!!!! =D I got so excited when I saw this. Fantastic tone, amazing choice of song.

  • magnifique

  • 2 people without a heart..

  • Wunderbar!!! Einfach klasse!

  • great muscle memory there.

  • Absolutely amazing thank you very much for posting such a wonderful gift for all humankind. Congratulations to all who made it possible

  • Wonderful!

  • what's up with the brief red flashes every once in awhile basically around 0:00-1:00 I don't see what's up with it and it gets annoying.

  • Michala Petri is simply AMAZING!!!!!

  • Incredible skills ... Yet, it does not sound as nice and venerable as for the original violin. Too much unpleasant high whistling.

  • @violinoamore "unpleasant high whistling"...asshole.

  • @goodguysdoll You seem to be very intelligent guy. The last word is your signature, right ?

  • why do you think there is so much suffering in the world. satanists make a deal with evil so that they can reach "high" positions in the world. they get their own shops, medical practices etc earthly status.they make a deal and they have to pay their dues which is human degradation, misery, torture by making wars, spreading corruption, increasing the price of goods and physicaly torturing people in satanic gatherings. satan approached jesus but he declined so he went to someoneelse who accepted

  • what do satanists do? they practice ritual murder, cannibalism, homosexual incest and inbreeding and pagan societies such as in africa do these things. satanists take the bible and do what God forbids and forbid what command commands that's why they read the bible backwards. satan is a lying cheating coward, a materialistic and shallow mofo who isnt capable of any good works. he is bitter and hates humanity and misleads people and lures them in with temptation

  • @Pandamanrr satan can't produce anything beautiful because he is pure evil. evil cannot produce anything good. evil lies, misleads, corrupts, destroys and ruins. if these composers produce anything of beauty it is because of their appreciation of beauty which satan uses to lure them into corrupting obscenities and abominations like ritual murder and cannibalism by operation of their vain ambition. satan hates humanity because it is because of adam that he is condemned to everlasting hellfire

  • michala petri bcm my idol dy. Evidence for me to my fellow friends who think recorder is plastic toy!^.^

  • sounds like angels fluttering around the throne of God

  • @iorixs LOLOLOL

  • she is such a great musician. an small instrument played this way bring us to heaven

  • purely stated - gorgeous. its that simple :)

  • Dear Michala Petri . Great!!!

  • Wow! I've heard so many people say that recorders have a disgusting sound quality, but this surely proves them wrong.

  • To jest niesamowite *.* Też bym chciała tak umieć to zagrać

  • This is so amazingly beautiful. It's hard to find something to beat these heights. Thanks, Michala, is good to know you are real ( even though listening your music I doubt): mankind seems to have a chance...

  • I have a new respect for recorders...

  • @crumblyfairy Good on you!

  • @crumblyfairy Recorders were never meant to do anything less than this.

The most famous composers in history (among whom Georg Friedrich Händel) composed numerous pieces for this small but powerful instrument.

People nowadays often regard it as a "child's toy" or a "starter instrument to get a good basis for further musical education". Only the cheapest recorders may be classified as such, however. I think your newfound respect for the recorder is one everyone should already have had.

  • Michala Petri is so excellent that it makes me want to burn my recorders for firewood. This is true virtuosity.

  • This is a great video best ever

  • She has something with the Devil, for sure. Along with a extreme finger agillity, her breath control must be superb! A great player and a quite beatiful presence.

  • @edudaviola *insert crude joke here*

  • great rendition with theorbo!

  • Magnifique !

  • That's just absolutely amazing..! I also play recorder and I really would like to learn to play this part of the sonate.

But she plays amazingly. That's true talent. ♥

  • what a heaven

recorder is a truely amazing instrument

  • Fantastica!

  • sounds me better than violins on web...this recorder for this song sounds me better...clearly recognizing melody in good tempo....

  • More moved w/ violin than flute. Searched long for Corelli's Op. 5 set. Happy to find it and took it home w/o looking at the ingredients. For recorder and not violin. Later received Andrew Manze's violin edition, which is exceptional; yet there is something pure, organ-like about the recorder version. A good violinsist can play multiple stops while woodwinds are single line. It really doesn't take that much to get cozy with an unconventional ave. and then hang onto it w/ religion.

  • Lindo!! :D

  • plz answer me .. what kind of recorder that she use ?

its sound great and i love it alot !!

    she is so talented

  • In norwegian we call it sopranino, maybe it`s the same in english? It is smaller than the soprano, is tuned in F, and it looks like this is made of ebony, so it is high quality!

i agree with you - it sounds great! =) I would love to play like this!!! ;o)

  • sopranino recorder

  • I smile that devil trills are those which are not written in fingering charts.... (Such exists)...:-D

  • Petri is a Goddess! What can I say more...

  • epic cadenza !!

  • beautifull...what "devil trills"!

  • Sounds good in flute too

  • WAU, thats technique. Gratulations

  • she makes it seem so easy... as if the piece simply float out of flute when it is blown, not a thing sounds forced

  • i know, she looks so calm, as if she's playing 'twinkle, twinkle' instead of something thats mind-blowingly hard!

  • wow! I don't that this piece also fitted... no not fitted but really fitted for flute! WoW!

  • amazing piece of art .. what i know that tartini or whatever is his name had a dream one night about the devil asking him to put his soul on the demon's palm and when he did so the devil started playing this sonanta (on a violin) & it was the best thing the musician ever heard =) he woke up quickly and starting wiriting down the notes he remembred from his dream..weird..but nice ^__^

  • THere's a legend that if you play the Devil's Trillall the way that your soul will belong to the devil. Guess it's true since Tartini beted his soul to the Devil in a duel of the violin...creepy

  • What's that big guitar thing? Is it a type of lute? I love the sopranino and her beautiful playing great going!

  • This is a Tiorba

  • Extraordinaire et merveilleux. Et quel distinction ! Merci beaucoup

  • phenomenal technique

  • Wow, I didn't know anyone could play this song on the flute! BRAVO! The setting and clothing is also very good, adds to the enjoyment of the entire piece. Good work!

  • 讚!!!

  • beautiful just beautiful

  • This is great!!!!!

  • impresionante es muy buena excelente aplausos

  • Ah, the devil...how many interesting stories about him.....

here's another devil story to share with you: It is said that Tartini saw the devil in a dream. The devil asked for his Strad violin, and so Tartini obliged and handed his violin over. The devil played with such virtuosity that Tartini was absolutely astonished. When he awoke, he tried to write down as much as he could remember from hearing before it was gone. However, he says his composition was nothing compared to what he heard.

  • actually, it's Tartini, not Paganini. Anyways, she is one of the best woodwind player I've ever seen :)

  • What a different take! Is this available on CD? My favorite version so far....

  • Yes, it is avaiable on the CD "AIR" RCA 09026 68769 2

  • u are fantastic! I'm studying it with the violin . how did u arrange the kreisler cadenze? congratulation!

  • Amazing! She is perfect! She is the best!

  • This recording verifies that the devil´s instrument was actually a flute and not a violin. Maybe Tartini recollected it all wrong? I mean - somehow the trills come easier and more natural on a flute, don't they :)

  • UAO!

  • This was originally written for Violin, and it is by far one of the most difficult pieces written for the violin, but I must say that I like the arrangement for the recorder. Absolutely gorgeous. ^^

  • Dammit I now am inspired to go a seek out scores for this piece so I can have a go at playing it.

  • Please! please! I beg you! Send me a copy! Send me a message, please. I really want to play this

  • I adore her play, never imagined in school how beautiful music can be played on a recorder!

  • I wish someone had shown me this performance when they forced us all to play recorder in elementary school. I wouldn't have thought the instrument was a "warm up" instrument before we started playing "real" ones in the orchestra/band classes.

  • Amazing. I wish I could play instruments like they can.

  • Fantastic!
