Dorian does one week of junior high schoolers and one week with high school musicians hosted at Luther College. These students showed up (some of them with zero rehearsal time) and rehearsed in mass for 4-5 days. So to nanners, dingy, this is pretty remarkable considering the amount of time spent rehearsing students who don't know each other very well.
Thanks for the post! Its a great look into what can happen with great instructors and students who are excited for music.
and sorry to say. but everyone who's saying negative things and they're better..good for you... this is a choir/band camp.. it's about improving your skills not being the "best" or being "perfect" or even memorizing.... it was a week full of techniques and learning. & it was amazing. sorry we're not the best tho... jeez..
*I dont mean for any of it to sound negative even tho I know it does... sorry*
which magnificat did you sing? who's the composer? ...i went to the Dorian Choral Festival 2007 that took place during the school year and we sang this : )
ah! I wish I could've gone to the Choral Festival, but I couldn't.... my friend went tho, she said it was the same Magnificat, I don't remember the composer tho, sorry, did you guys also sing River in Judea too?? =)
Sorry to double post... but I must say... I find the poster of a bunch of the singers to be atrocious... ugh... And what's with all the talking in the background? Whatever...
Either way, I still really like this song... The poem is so depressing... D:
...What? I said that the background noise WAS annoying, hence the 'either way' part there. I don't even know what I meant by that first sentence there. :/
Heh. We did this song last year (January of 2007) for NM All-State. I was an alto... Now I'm a bass. T'cheya. We sang it better... you could actually hear the tenors and basses (though the tenors weren't all that hot...)
I made District for the state of Illinois, and the man who wrote this song came and tought us and he conducted our concert. He's a fantastic teacher and a wonderful composer.
u guys r good. im singing this but in a waaayyy better version of this. u guys should have unirforms like i do 2 look all in unison, or even have memorized the words or have black floders. gud job tho
i actually liked this version. The poem itself that its derived from is sad. This was a camp so we had a little less than a week to get the music, learn the songs, etc. They wanted us to wear black or white but some people wanted to be more fabulous. hahaha. also, we thought we could have done it memorized but they told us the day before that we should hold our music so buying a folder was out of the question.
we had to memorize it. along with the five other songs at a concert. we also have uniforms and we do it a lot different. probably because i'm an alto. it's an all girls choir.
Kudos to you? That's not that impressive and I apologize if that's not where you were going with that. When I sang this song we did it memorized along with 14 other songs for the mixed choir, not to mention the men's and women's choirs. I had 19 songs memorized for that concert.
it was only a week long camp at a college and the majority voted that we have music with us no matter what. thats why we used our manila folders instead of real ones because it was last minute. it sucked but at least the song turned out alright for being a week in the making.
but kudos to you for memorizing it along with 14 other songs! the only thing worse would be performing handel. hahaha
Oh, they're not referring to modes in a scale. Dorian is a summer music camp held at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Sorry that no one said anything.
this is the senior high camp

you must not think like the rest of us but to some of us it gets on our nerves when we are trying to listen to something and there is constant noise.

this would look so much better if the choir used black folders. Having said that, a terrific sound.
