Imagine anyone today wondering how a guest arrived so quickly after his own show ended just a few minutes before. In those days, things were done in real time, and the question Arlene asked Funt was perfectly logical.

This comes from that (in)famous September 1963 episode with the Bell Maker in which Arlene Francis [ side effects alcohol? pain medication reaction? alcohol / meds reaction? aftermath of her May 1963 auto accident] seems ( 3:36 ) flushed. Confused from 4:00 onward?

Notice -- she solved both the bell maker and Funt when he used his own voice. Go girl!

Wow... this brought back OLD memories. I am sometimes amazed (maybe a bit freaked out) that I can remember watching shows from this time when they were originally aired. I remember watching "What's My Line" on a regular basis. And "Candid Camera." My ... how time has flown by! Now I am finding myself rapidly approaching the realm of those called "elderly" ... It is both awesome and scary ...

Thanks for posting this. Arlene is even more cute here than usual and I love how she gives it away that they record some of the shows. I love Dorothy's hair and dress here; very glamorous :)

the old candid camera: think of the innocence and good natured quality of that show compared with the harsh, anxiety-making and sour "punked."

I would imagine it would refer to the broadcast year , which in those days, faithfully started in September, so that would make it a new season and a new year for WML

as someone else said- Sunday nights were a joy for this redheaded boy with Mr. Ed, Lassie, Ed Sullivan, Candid Camera and WML in the early 1960's on CBS.

Oh yes -- I remember back to back Candid Camera and WML very well. Our family rarely missed them at the time I was quite a little boy. Ed Sullivan 6:00 p.m. Candid Camera 8:00 p.m. WML 8:30 p.m. MST.

I would have been miffed if I were Funt: the title is a trifle insulting. It would be better  ALLEN FUNT
