I sure wish you'ld find the time to put out more tags, Big O. Your disposition is great, you sound great even in bad voice, your pleasant and easy to listen to and you share and teach others what you know....best of all, I love your blend...you are really good. Please find time to do some more!
There's a booklet floating around the web called "Classic Tags", there's one for women and one for men. Google Classic Tags PDF and you'll find it right away.
Wow! I want my quartet to learn this tag now haha :) and AHH! I saw Realtime live and met them at the Music City Chorus in Nashville! They blew me away. By the way, amazing tag! :D And I'm sorry your voice wasn't well at the time, but you still did an incredible job lol!
Wow, what a ring. I started listening to barbershop a bit about a year ago, but now that I have been cast as the barbershop quartet's bass in my high school's production of The Music Man, I've been listening to barbershop a lot lately. I usually find it hard to really hear that ring, but it was clearly audible in this one.
I'm hoping next week. The international contest is going on right now and the finalists always have great tags, so I'd like to do one of the new ones.
No, I don't know if you got the words wrong. Your singing it is the first time I've heard it. It's just the logical side of my brain instead of my artistic side working overtime. :)
baritones are always the hardest part not only that but they are the hardest to hear. They are always the hardest because they always fill the harmony wherever needed. If the tenor 1 comes down most likely the bari goes up and if the bass goes up then the bari covers below the bass. Now not in all occasions of course but that is the Bari's job in most barber shop. I'm the bass in my group but I still love the Bari lines they're always the sweetest.
Yea mark, you did an awesome job, from that video feed, at least! Being a bass also, I'd love to sing that one with realtime.. I'd probably go all limpy tho haha
Ahh, you mean what "software" am I using. Device indicates hardware. This vid was done with Premiere Pro, but you can also use Final Cut Pro or Express. I don't know of a free one.
I've said it before, but I just have to say it again: YOU ARE THE MAN! I just love your multi-stuff, dude; I can't wait to ring a few tags with you one of these days, should we ever cross paths!
Sort of. The teaching is a half step down from the finished tag. I did the complete tag first and my voice was shot from singing all those high notes so I had to pitch it down to teach it.
Love your tags, not only bcs you are a great singer but also (obviously) for the wonderful opportunity you give to us amateurs to record our own tags.
Any fan of lost is a friend of mine! Get out! you have a lost podcast? Whats it called I'd love to listen to it. Jorge's the best, especially when he says dude lol
On another note, pun intended, this tag is awesome, you're work is great, keep it up!!
I love this tag Big O!! Good Job. I have to admit though. I've lways been fascinated so much with higher ranges that I decided to add a higher tenor to this tag and made it a 5-part tag. If I had the equipment, I would definately record it for you to eval. Keep up the good work and thanx for the inspiration. Jj of the Evergreen District.
O, you totally rock with a vengeance not formerly known to mankind, dude! My quartet LOVES to do this tag, and I would be tickled pink if, one of these days, my quartet could sing it with you!
Plan on visiting The Pioneer District anytime soon??
1. I love the post, you don't waver and it is incredibly pitch accurate ie it doesn't sag at all like most post tend to do.
2. As just a suggestion, the post looks dead, you actually look like your not even singing the note, it looks effortless but at the sametime doesn't do anything for the presentation. Just a thought
Big-O - just wanted to say thanks and to keep up the good work. I was introduced to Barbershop by a great friend Matt Pastor. Matt has the skills to arrange and sing, while I can only somewhat sing. Anyway, for years I have been struggling to try and figure out a barbershop piece, and because of your very helpful tutorial I was able to piece together this tag and end up with something decent. Thanks so much! Any plans to post more???
man, i've been wanting to attempt this tag and now i see you and Boneman have both already done it! great job! definitely tests the upper range. btw, the bari is my favorite part on this one, as well.
touche sir, touche..... would you happen to know The baritone of Max Q, Gary Lewis? He was me jedi master last year in highschool, but he moved, so we have someone else this year ;-;
Good job, Big O. Do you realize that if you were to pitch it up just a half, you could possibly create an overtone only dogs could hear! Well done, man!
It is a freakin' high tag. I would have nailed it a lot better if I hadn't had this cold. The bari part needs to be full voice. I might re-do it later.
Now, if you might be willing to take a request, could you do your usual "learning track" type video for the Tonight tag? I've been dying to teach it to the quartet, but haven't been able to figure out all the parts just by ear.
I'd like to join the list for that album (although I'll have to convince my mother to buy it... she's paranoid about online transactions, and I'm 15 with no way to buy it.)

Thanks :)
That's the whole reason I'm teaching the parts, so that other people can learn it. I'd bet it's much more in your all's range than it is in mine.
murry537 2 years ago
How do you hold a note for 25 seconds straight like that? Lol
McGarvinStudios 2 years ago 8
25 seconds isn't too bad. I can do at least 35.

Sorry to sound picky. :)

Yes, the whole thing is very high. Thus the voice cracking when I was teaching it.
