  • O! You rock!!

  • pause at 2:09

  • you sang Eb

  • @nathantaderboy98 Yes, yes I did. As noted in the annotation at about 1:15

  • I sure wish you'ld find the time to put out more tags, Big O. Your disposition is great, you sound great even in bad voice, your pleasant and easy to listen to and you share and teach others what you know....best of all, I love your blend...you are really good. Please find time to do some more!

  • everytime i watch your video I have a "big o"

  • @LocoCyc:

    Um - - I'm not sure if I should shake your hand & congratulate you or just turn around & walk away . . . x-b !

  • man, at 2:27. it gets really cool!!

    great job man

  • Great! Our gospel chorus should do use it. You could earn big money with this! It would bring an enourmous jump for all choirs to use that!

  • where can i find these "tags" to do myself?

  • There's a booklet floating around the web called "Classic Tags", there's one for women and one for men. Google Classic Tags PDF and you'll find it right away.

  • @murry537 thank you very much.

  • hey big-O, i was wondering what multitrack program you use and if you could send me the link to the site where you can download it. Thanks, Jimmy

  • I use Garageband on a Mac. You can't download it. It comes free with a new Mac.

  • Wow! I want my quartet to learn this tag now haha :) and AHH! I saw Realtime live and met them at the Music City Chorus in Nashville! They blew me away. By the way, amazing tag! :D And I'm sorry your voice wasn't well at the time, but you still did an incredible job lol!

  • Thanks :)

That's the whole reason I'm teaching the parts, so that other people can learn it. I'd bet it's much more in your all's range than it is in mine.

  • How do you hold a note for 25 seconds straight like that? Lol

  • 25 seconds isn't too bad. I can do at least 35.

  • Wow, what a ring. I started listening to barbershop a bit about a year ago, but now that I have been cast as the barbershop quartet's bass in my high school's production of The Music Man, I've been listening to barbershop a lot lately. I usually find it hard to really hear that ring, but it was clearly audible in this one.

  • Thanks! You'll enjoy the Music Man. It's a great show. Lots of great songs in that one.

  • yeah crossroads just won unbelievable they are awesome

  • They participated in the annual spring show, that my barbershop choir hosts, and they were amazing in person.

  • U expect crossroads to win it this year?

  • Definitely. I heard their set last month and they are fantastic.

  • When r u going to post another tag for us to learn? lol

  • I'm hoping next week. The international contest is going on right now and the finalists always have great tags, so I'd like to do one of the new ones.

  • BRAVO!!!!! What aud/vid editing software are you using?!?

  • Garageband, and Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • Great job....lovely bari tiddly at 2:37.

  • Yeah, I love that part. I don't hold a candle to the real guys, but it's still a great tag!

  • good job

  • Shouldn't the long note word be 'rains' and not 'rain' since the last word of the other three parts is 'rains'?

    Sorry to sound picky. :)

  • I didn't write the song, so I don't know. Are you saying I got the words wrong? That's possible.

  • No, I don't know if you got the words wrong. Your singing it is the first time I've heard it. It's just the logical side of my brain instead of my artistic side working overtime. :)

  • Comment removed

  • Is it just me or is the baritone part ridiculously high?

  • Yes, the whole thing is very high. Thus the voice cracking when I was teaching it.

  • baritones are always the hardest part not only that but they are the hardest to hear. They are always the hardest because they always fill the harmony wherever needed. If the tenor 1 comes down most likely the bari goes up and if the bass goes up then the bari covers below the bass. Now not in all occasions of course but that is the Bari's job in most barber shop. I'm the bass in my group but I still love the Bari lines they're always the sweetest.

  • oh i'm sure your not - that's why i said "looks like" and not "you are"

    :)

  • Uh...thanks? I think...

And just to clarify, I'm not.

  • i like it... and you look like your having an orgasm twords the end of the lead post in the upper left video

  • you are awsome. But i couldnt stop laughing because i didnt expect you to be able to get that high. but other than that i loved it.

  • I can get higher than that on a good day. I was fighting a cold when I recorded that.

  • i attempted to do this tag

you should let me know what you think

  • Cool. You should post it as a video response!

  • that was great!!!!

  • Most excellent! Thank you so much for that - I never knew the tenor or bari parts before.

I've posted a response video - me singing the whole song with Realtime on stage at the Indianapolis convention. I hope you allow it as a response.

  • I approved it. You did a great job singing with them! That's big shoes to fill.

  • Yea mark, you did an awesome job, from that video feed, at least! Being a bass also, I'd love to sing that one with realtime.. I'd probably go all limpy tho haha

  • what video editing device do you use?

  • Device? You mean my laptop?

  • no like garage band for the reverb and stuff\

but im trying to figure out how to get 4 different videos going on the screen at once

like at the end of your videos

    such as sony vegas, microsoft movie maker, ect.;

  • Ahh, you mean what "software" am I using. Device indicates hardware. This vid was done with Premiere Pro, but you can also use Final Cut Pro or Express. I don't know of a free one.

  • Yo, O!

I've said it before, but I just have to say it again: YOU ARE THE MAN! I just love your multi-stuff, dude; I can't wait to ring a few tags with you one of these days, should we ever cross paths!

  • lol i think u went up half step in beginning. lol it worked though.

  • Sort of. The teaching is a half step down from the finished tag. I did the complete tag first and my voice was shot from singing all those high notes so I had to pitch it down to teach it.

  • oh LOL k i see. lol so that was all in the original key.

  • when u doin another? i have all ur's on paper lol. (did it myself. with pen, paper, n piano. lol thats how i heard the half step down)

  • Dunno. Maybe soon.

  • NICE OVERTONE!!! definetly do more vids ur awsome.

  • keep doing what you're doing. I've learned most of the common tags from you!! Thanks so much!

  • i love your videos for sure!

  • Love your tags, not only bcs you are a great singer but also (obviously) for the wonderful opportunity you give to us amateurs to record our own tags.

Good work, I'd love to see you continue this :D

  • Thanks! I definitely plan on doing more. Right now I've been cast in a production of the Music Man so I'll probably do some tags from that.

  • Dude, you remind me of "Hurley" from the TV show lost. Your facial expressions and features are similar.

  • Thanks! I love Jorge Garcia, and that's an ironic comparison for you to make because I actually interviewed him for my LOST podcast. He's super nice.

  • Any fan of lost is a friend of mine! Get out! you have a lost podcast? Whats it called I'd love to listen to it. Jorge's the best, especially when he says dude lol

On another note, pun intended, this tag is awesome, you're work is great, keep it up!!

  • Thanks for the tag, and also thanks for your whole series of tag instruction videos. I love them.

  • you're welcome! now i just need to get around to making more...

  • hey, are you sure this is in E? I played it on my pipe and it sounds like its E flat???

  • The training part is in E flat, the final product is in E.

  • ok I see, thanks

  • i really love listening to your tags. you sound so great. i hope you make some more!!!

  • It's hard to find time to do it, but I will definitely make more!

  • that was really great!

  • I love this tag Big O!! Good Job. I have to admit though. I've lways been fascinated so much with higher ranges that I decided to add a higher tenor to this tag and made it a 5-part tag. If I had the equipment, I would definately record it for you to eval. Keep up the good work and thanx for the inspiration. Jj of the Evergreen District.

  • Great work

  • wow! wonderful!

  • fantastic tag! thanks big O, you rule!

  • O, I really have to agree with lhasson1; you did QUITE well on this one, cold or no cold. Outstanding, dude!

  • Thanks :)

It's not my best, but it was in tune at least.

  • This is great! Well done. That bari part is CLASSIC

  • good stuff Big O.

  • Nice stuff Big O! Thanks for sharing your talents!!

  • O, you totally rock with a vengeance not formerly known to mankind, dude! My quartet LOVES to do this tag, and I would be tickled pink if, one of these days, my quartet could sing it with you!

Plan on visiting The Pioneer District anytime soon??

  • That's just over the pond from me. I'm in the Land Of Lakes district.

  • Two things:

    1. I love the post, you don't waver and it is incredibly pitch accurate ie it doesn't sag at all like most post tend to do.

    2. As just a suggestion, the post looks dead, you actually look like your not even singing the note, it looks effortless but at the sametime doesn't do anything for the presentation. Just a thought

  • Thanks, and I agree with you. I had just worked on the tag a lot already and I didn't feel like making another take.

  • Awesome, I love your posts, keep them coming and like I said you have a great voice!

  • amazing. i love these and my quartet definetly can learn from them.

id love to see some sheet music for this, just to look at it better and tweak a few things.

    thanks for this stuff =]

  • Good! I'm glad it's useful for you.

I don't have the spots for this song. I just figured out the parts by listening to the youtube video of Realtime singing it.

  • oh thats really cool.

if you would, could you do ice castles? i never really get the bass down right when im singing with my quartet. (though, im a tenor.) =]

  • it would be sweet if i could just send these to my phone. that way i could open it up quick with my quartet lol

  • You have a tenor voice exactly like Max Q's... and that last chord was very sweet1

  • Wow, that's high praise indeed! Thanks, but I'm no Greg Clancy.

  • Big-O - just wanted to say thanks and to keep up the good work. I was introduced to Barbershop by a great friend Matt Pastor. Matt has the skills to arrange and sing, while I can only somewhat sing. Anyway, for years I have been struggling to try and figure out a barbershop piece, and because of your very helpful tutorial I was able to piece together this tag and end up with something decent. Thanks so much! Any plans to post more???

  • Definitely! I've got a lot more I want to do.

  • Big O!

  • drcluk!

  • lol you sort of look dead in the top left

  • Absolutely loving the cheeky trill at the end ;). keep em coming...

  • man, i've been wanting to attempt this tag and now i see you and Boneman have both already done it! great job! definitely tests the upper range. btw, the bari is my favorite part on this one, as well.

  • that last chord was lovely

  • What a cool idea, learning tags on youtube! Wow wah woo wa..

  • Very Very Good! It's too high for me!

  • Yeah, me too :)

  • Its Yesterday I Heard The Rain. The one chorus I sing in sings this song.

  • Thanks.

I've already updated the description with the song info.

  • Amazing,this tag is incredible.

  • man that david wright seems really hard to get ahold of...

  • Ok now I've heard it! Good job man! And I'm glad someone is here doin such a good job entertaining the audience while I'm off recording the album =)

  • Hey, I'll do what I can.

    How far along are you?

  • 11 out of 12 songs recorded, and I still haven't gotten a hold of david wright... I need to talk to him before I can do anything more...

  • Yeah, good luck with that. I know people who have had that same problem.

  • E flat, not E

    ~_^

    Z

  • Ahh, not so fast young padawan. I sang the instruction in E flat, but the tag itself is in E!

  • touche sir, touche..... would you happen to know The baritone of Max Q, Gary Lewis? He was me jedi master last year in highschool, but he moved, so we have someone else this year ;-;

  • Gary Lewis is a Jedi? Sweet. It's gotta help your scores if you can do the Jedi mind trick on the judges!

  • lol, padawan

  • whe-n you push me i fa-al, doo-own.

    BIG O :)

  • Good job, Big O. Do you realize that if you were to pitch it up just a half, you could possibly create an overtone only dogs could hear! Well done, man!

    8-)

  • Ha! Very true :)

It is a freakin' high tag. I would have nailed it a lot better if I hadn't had this cold. The bari part needs to be full voice. I might re-do it later.

  • Naw. I thought it sounded terrific. Any more bari would make it illegal to sing in most of the civilized world. 8-)

    Take care of that cold.

  • The name of the song is "Yesterday I Heard the Rain" arranged by Brent Graham

  • Thanks! I updated the video description with that information.

  • WOW.

    Just... WOW.

Although, no matter how awesome your tags are, they'll never be as great as your facial expressions while singing them.

  • My facial expressions? Do I detect sarcasm? ;)

  • Not at all, of course ;)

Now, if you might be willing to take a request, could you do your usual "learning track" type video for the Tonight tag? I've been dying to teach it to the quartet, but haven't been able to figure out all the parts just by ear.

  • I've had a ton of requests, but that's I good one. I might have to do that. My next one though, is going to be another one that I arranged.

  • Good to hear! We always enjoy those... can't wait.

  • are you talking about the acoustix song "tonight, tonight"? I just recorded the entire song for my album =D

hey O, I would comment on your video if i could watch it, but I'm at work, so I'll have to wait with that until I get home!

  • Ok, but be gentle. This isn't my best.

  • I'd like to join the list for that album (although I'll have to convince my mother to buy it... she's paranoid about online transactions, and I'm 15 with no way to buy it.)

  • Nice. Thats also one of my favotie tags. Could you do the superman tag possibly?

  • awesome! great range, I wish I could sing that clearly that high. 5 stars
