It's incredible that anyone could go through that and still come out on top. Sounds like you have your life together, that's very impressive for anyone coming from any background.
And learning guitar isn't that hard if you have around 400 dollars to spend on a quality guitar. You'll never want to play if you pick up a 100 dollar guitar from walmart, they can't even stay in tune ;) haha.
That would be a very difficult situation to experience, My parents have also used drugs, ultimately drug use is what caused me to become homeless. No doubt experiencing those things has made you stronger as a person!
