  • we all need hugs...and we all need to hug

  • Where did you find this?

  • Awesome job Deen. Never knew you had such a wonderful voice, you were always rockin' the drums so hard.

  • so cute!!!

  • Thanks for the Smile!

  • i bet your lot cant sing like this(range)so why slag him off and plus he plays drums at the same time on other songs

  • i don't know this man, but what i've seen so far, he is a great human being!!!! deen, will you marry me???? LOL!!!

  • deen is one of the most talented men on earth!!!!

  • awesome!! Thank you for posting!

  • everytime i feel blue, i look at this video and it changes my entire perception of life.he is the perfect example that you can make it in this world. thanks D FOR BEING YOU! I wish i could pick your brain a little.... happy birthday! enjoy it with your family and friends that at the end, they will always be there for you! don't stop believing..... :)

  • Awesome idea! What a great, simple way to demonstrate love to people!!

  • deen is one of the best singers/drummers i have ever heard.

  • we all need hugs....lots of them.....

  • Studio recordings always exposes a singers limitations

for instance here Dean cant cover bad phrasing flat singing and his limited range

Live he soars on songs in studio he is very limited

thats why Journey didnt go with him

they knew in studio his voice could not do the job

You cant cover phrasing tone or range limitations in the studio

  • @InfinityNebula

    very well said

  • Dean sounds like Brian Adams very raspy

    Live vocals covers many flaws

Voice is very different live than in studio

This demonstrates Deans thin raspy and flat voice

hes very limited but the effects of live vocals can cover limitatons

  • @InfinityNebula - Actually, Deen had a terrible cold the day he recorded this but he was told there wasn't time to delay it hence the result. Listen to the Manila 'Still they Ride' song to hear his clear vocals. Yeah, I know that was 'live' but not really.

  • great acoustic guitar match with deen voice

  • deen this is great..can you do this with arnel in different style.. wow great tenor

  • the bottom line, sadly, is that no matter how good the "new" guy is, things will never be the same as they were back then....

  • Deen does a great job...

  • I first saw Deen with Bad English doing the greatest drum solo I have ever witnessed! His amazing stick juggling technique blew me away!! This video highlights Deen's awesome vocal talent, which most would dismiss as just another drummer who sings... I respectfully disagree. Deen has validated himself as a well rounded musician, evident in every live performance! Thank you for sharing this amazing piece of the puzzle that is Deen Castronovo! Kudos!!~

  • i love deen castronovo,a funny guy, killer drumer.also a good singer.i love journey with their new lead singer mr arnel pineda.

  • WATCH ME PLAY THIS TUNE.

  • I need a hug too....:( :(

  • where did this guy come from???

  • I was amazed with this, He got those big shoulder and a tender vioce wow

  • omg corwin give it up, david lee roth still had the fire, STEVE PERRY DOESNT let his voice rest in peace please stfu

  • Holy BLEEP!

  • journeys best drummer!! and what a singer

  • hes a great singer yeah. but not their greatest drummer. thats their first 1. steve smith. he learned deen how to play drums.

  • well thats your opinion. i think he is the better drummer

  • @vorkanz Journey's first drummer was Ansley Dunbar not Steve Smith. When Dunbar left Journey he did some work with Jefferson Star Ship and then with White Snake.

  • @neechee5150 wow, jefferson star ship, that i dident know.

  • @neechee5150 no journey's first drummer was Prairie Prince. then aynsley dunbar, then steve smith, then larrie londin (studio for Raised on Radio), and mike Baird (tour for Raised on Radio), and now, deen castronovo.

  • What a cool video

  • Lovendou, thats how its supposed to be. Its a soul remix with one of his previous bands. Truthfully, in my opinion, I think Deen is behind Steve Perry and Stever Augeri, kidna like 3rd string. He has an amazing voice and amazing range. Truly a very gifted drummer and vocalist.

  • If the comments that I read all over Youtube on the Journey videos are any indication of the prevailing sentiment of the Journey fanbase as a whole, I think Neil Schon is going to find out what Eddie and Alex Van Halen have found out; it doesn't matter if it's your band, it doesn't matter if the band is NAMED after you, if the fans want a specific lead singer they want a specific lead singer and they're not going to be happy unless they get him.

Arnel's good. Deen's good. Bring back Perry.

  • I'll say it over and over and over, Deen is the best. A great drummer and vocalist. If I had to pick a favorite vocalist that Journey has had, besides Steve Perry, it would be either Steve Augeri or Deen. No offense to AP fans but i really dont like him singing the journey CLASSICS. but singing their new stuff, hes a fair frontman.

  • brilliant. would love to hear journey do a version like this live

  • What a job Deen does on this song. I have seen Journey(of the 2000's) several times and when they let him sing a song, he is just as good if not better than the lead singer they have at that time. This message board is supposed to be about the song in question, not bickering. The person that started this, GO AWAY!

  • Trust me, you were a fan and maybe still are! And that just brings a big smile to my face.

Nah, more fun to leave you guessing! :-)

  • What an awesome video! This world needs more hugs in it!

  • FREE HUGS!!

  • what a great voice. so manly! ^^

  • where did this version come from?

  • Deen does have a respectable tenor, but this song doesn't suit him, especially with the acoutic guitar that ruins it. I am right?

  • Nope...you're wrong!

  • hes not the world's greatest singer but he does a very good Mother, Father and After the Fall. I do prefer Perry and Pineda to him

  • Agreed. He also does a great "Don't Stop Believin'" as well. I prefer this version over the original by a long shot.

  • this is excellent. truly.

  • Dean has a great voice, his voice is more suited for a Rocker power ballad..Here Mother on Deans version its great too.

  • Deen enjoys being a drummer and singing on the side. He's just happy that they have a new lead singer now. In an interview of the band by CBS, he said he just drove him crazy when they didn't have a singer. Having Arnel in the group added another asset in the band. And I can see that there is a great chemistry among all of them. Arnel fits the job being a front man and Deen fits the job of being a drummer.

  • BEAUTIFUL.

  • Excellent song and video. Thanks for posting. It bought a tear to my eye.

  • So glad you enjoyed it and got something out of it. Best wishes to you.

  • In the space between what is known and what is yet do be discovered, Love needs no excuse. All You Need...is LOVE...Don't Stop Believin'.

    Very Nicely Done my friends...

  • this free hugs is very touching for me

  • he is better than JS

  • Awesome drummer and a really soulful voice!!!

    GREAT!!!

  • lmao, soulfoul? wtf, listen theres no soul in that. this is a bad version of the song

  • Deen is very talented person. I really liked him singing the "mother and father" and hitting those drums were pretty amazing! But to be the lead singer? I think Deen enjoys it more being the drummer of the band.

  • deen rock on this song i like when he sing mother father on the LV concert and its funny when arnel said im no match with that voice great drummer and great singer hehehe which is so true but deen admit that when he trying to be a front man hhahaha hes turning crazy those song killing him his a good backup for Arnel if arnel is tired he can be a sub for a moment like 2 to 4 song so arnel can take a break at the concert u know what i mean..

  • thats how humble AP is, just listen to deen's version of this song, he sounds weird. this is a horrible version of the song. Deen has a great voice but he doesnt have versatility. and people please stop making excuses how he cant be replaced as a drummer and thats why hes not the lead singer. I agree though, he can sing to sub for AP.

  • I agree this is a crappy version of the song, but I think that's less about Deen's voice, and more that the song is not suited to being stripped down and performed acoustically.

I think you're right overall about him being less versatile, though.

  • Not impressed with this version but Deen has a much better "Journey' voice than AP. To say Deen doesn't have versatility is CRAZY. YOU try playing drums and singing at the same time!! LOL Arnel can't do that. even Perry couldn't have done that. Do you even know what VERSATILE means? Deen is the most versatile guy in the group. You really need to find a new word, because saying Deen is not versatile is like saying Steve Perry couldn't sing LOL!

  • you're entitled to express ur own opinion ... don't dictate others people view... many people say that deen is better than AP, steve, better than AP, Jimi Jamison better than AP etc etc... even arnel say's steve better than him..what more do u wanna say to arnel? go on ... u have the right to give ur own opinion here... u can even say he's the worst vocalist of journey.. just fine for us as fans.. coz we know AP's talent.

  • Not dictating, just stating the facts...only the facts

  • there's no such thing as "facts" in music...

  • Sorry dude. Deen's voice perfectly fit MF but not other Journey songs. This one is good but not like Perry or Pineda's version.

  • I said I didn't like this version. It's not his voice that isn't good here, it's the arrangement. Deen's voice fits ALL journey songs, as he is a true true tenor like Perry. Of course NO singer will ever be as good as SP, but Deen is WAY better than Arnel vocally.

  • deen is good,,i like him but not the right sound for journey,, journey did the right thing,,plus he loves drumming to death

  • wow, Deen is just about as good as Perry. Maybe he should just have been the singer;-) This is really good. Where can I buy this? Is this an import, or rariety?

  • that is one fun activity! you should try it!

  • Awesome!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!!

  • This is so lovely! A great song by Deen and a great video altogether. Free Hugs - what a sweet idea!
