The tidal wave could not have risen to 2 miles high, that would have engulfed the whole island. Don't you mean the mushroom cloud?
By the way, the dome effect that appears briefly after the blast is caused by water vapour in the air condensing into water droplets (mist) because of the sudden drop in air pressure in the wake of the shock wave.
I enjoy watching videos of nuclear tests, and this one is the most visually stunning one there is in my opinion. However, when I learnt that live animals were placed on the ships to expose them to the blast makes me feel a little guilty about enjoying the spectacle. And what about the sea animals such as fish in the area? I suppose any nuclear blast is going to kill wildlife, even with the best of intentions. I think it is good that nuclear tests are mostly a thing of the past.
@tranquility65: Oh, I'm sure a goodly amount of the fish in the 10mi x 10mi lagoon died that day, and 38% of the tethered animals died of blast or radiation. Today the lagoon is teeming with fish; it's a divers paradise, though they're not allowed to eat them.
u see the ships around there? they put sheeps there to look what whill happen :s, and the ppl on the aircraft carrier ( the guys who filmed ) almost all died a month later
This footage was taken from "Trinity and Beyond; The Atomic Bomb Movie". Shot "Baker" was an underwater burst designed to study the effects of a close-range nuclear blast on a fleet of warships. Included in the battlegroup was a number of retired US and Japanese warships ranging in size from destroyers to battleships and aircraft carriers (Including the USS Saratoga). The musical piece heard here is called "Deus Vult" by William Stromberg.

"We toy with what we don't fully understand."
Nice attempt at prose....but the physics of fission and fusion bombs have been VERY well understood for fity years.
Put down your bong and join the REAL world.

@TheTerrapin55: At the time the film was made, the nuke age was only a year old. This is before fusion bombs.

We toy with what we don't fully understand. We unleash fury
and are impressed with our achievements. We destroy and justify by necessity. We are a hazard to ourselves.

@blowaap2: No. There were no people on any of the ships of the target fleet. Of the tethered animals, 38% died of blast or radiation.
