This is my favourite De La album, even though the title was kind've a self-fulfilling prophecy. Baseball, Bitties, great tunes. I'm Hemmorrhoid, I'm the leader of this gang.
Crucial Conflict..Ha, damn I knew I wasnt the only one that remembered them. We must be from the same era of music! At least Youtube lets us remenisce.Pease bro.
Let us never forget that De La produced some of the greatest nonsensical jibberish filled lyrics in the entire music industry (mmm, when daisy grows in ya mind!), but then listen to tracks like "millie" and realise that those of us that grew up with this were blessed their genius.
My Favorite De La Song. This came out as a single in 91 but never had a video I think Kid Capri use to play this on his show when he had a slot on WBLS back then. 91 all the way to 97 was the best years in Hip Hop.
J5 my ass, they're shit compared to De La Soul. All we have now are the shallow, egotistical, rappers who sound like high school talent show rejects. Hip Hop's not dead though, just comatose.
I definitely remember this. At first, I didn't get this because I was listening to this addictive beat, but not the song for like 2 weeks. Finally, I listened to the rhyme and realized it's about incest and I was like WHOA! One of the best songs on the De La Soul album with Oodles of Os, Saturday and Bitties in the BK Lounge.
can't think of another song that challenges the mind as this. as incest is probably the most heinus crime ever, i had a friend who was a victim, i think about her all the time and what she went through, but she goes on with her life and i don't know how.
I just saw De La in Wursburg Germany... I jumped at the chance to see them.. It was cool because right before they went on I asked if they would play this song and they did. It sounds even better live and they added some free style to it. I can't wait to see them again when I get back to the states...
Sure they have meaning. It's just that their value of "meaning" is measured is tacky things like rims, cars and jewelry. And people like that probably cant appreciate REAL hip=hop for what it is.
But, looking back through history, everything repeats itself. So, hopefully soon some real stuff will come back.
I think the silly "meaning" that [mainstream] songs have today are completely canceled out by the poor rhyming skills and the inability to tell an emotional story of todays rappers. De La Soul is an amazing group, and they weren't even the best "storytellers" of their era. If you listened to the radio consecutively for one whole day, I bet De La would sound like Shakespeare.
De La Soul are one of a kind, they just do what they wanna do. Regardless of what other artists back in their day did, look at the video for "Me Myself & I" it really sums this up! It's a shame artists today don't follow that philosophy, they could learn a lot, especially amongst the bullshit that passes off as hip-hop these days. Hip-Hop needs a De La of our generation!!
I love the remix version. It takes pieces of Patrice Rushen's "Givin' It Up Is Givin' Up" The music matches nicely with this bassline, and the hook "Feels like somethin's goin' wrong" goes so right with the story. Somebody upload that version, please!
This beat is HOT.. Butthis was one of the most disturbing songs hip hop songs ever. They were making a point and they made it. Talk about a song with a message.
couldn't agree more...this kind of jam is what made them the best ever....they ALWAYZ have something to say and something worth listening to... D.A.I.S.Y.!!

It's made-up, but considering that sexual molestation and gun violence exist, it could be real.
