It happened shortly after having the timing belt and water pump replaced. I assumed it must have been the upper valves but I traded it in before I figured it out. A mechanic told me they can get pretty loud and you can have them adjusted. Honda will charge you quite a bit, around 1K to do it. Look around for a mechanic in your area that works on foreign cars and they'll be able to do it for less than half. Good luck. I suppose you could also take it up with whoever did your belt.

I have a 2004 with the exact same noise. The timing belt and the water pump have been replaced.
Did you ever find out what the noise is?
