But in hindsight the failure in the 1995 Final is part of what made the Wings into the franchise they are now. It made them realize what it really takes to win the Stanley Cup.
As a Wings fan I always hoped for a rematch. I thought 98 would have been the best chance but the Devils had to go lose in round 1. Every year the Wings go deep the Devils don't and vice versa. One day I hope.

Neal Broten has the unique destinction of being the only American to win a Stanley Cup and an Olympic Gold Medal. Broten was on the 1980 Olympic Miracle on Ice team. I think he was the most succesful member of that team, very few made it to the NHL let alone had succesful NHL careers. Broten did.

Doc Emerick is the greatest NHL announcer of all time. I feel so blessed to have the privilege of hearing him call games day in and day for NJ. Also this tandem with Doc and John Davidson formally of the Rangers announcer team and now the current team President in St. Louis was truly the greatest announce team in NHL history bar none. Just a fantastic job calling this game. Also it is absolutely amazing to note the number of Hall of Famers and great players on both teams rosters.

Doc Emerick is the greatest NHL announcer of all time. I feel so blessed to have the privilege of hearing him call games day in and day for NJ. Also this tandem with Doc and John Davidson formally of the Rangers announcer team and now the current team President in St. Louis was truly the greatest announce team in NHL history bar none. Just a fantastic job calling this game. Also it is absolutely amazing to note the number of Hall of Famers and great players on both teams rosters.

In my opinion this is the biggest upset in NHL finals history. The 5th seeded Devils swept the heavily favoured Red Wings. The Devils didnt have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs and beaten the Bruins and Penguins each in five games and then beat the Flyers in six games.
