  • Saw Richard Thompson at JazzFest a few years after Katrina, he really impressed me. Great songwriter. P.S. any music lover who has never been to JazzFest: put it on your Bucket List!!

  • When you listen to this after a break-up, hide the razorblades!

  • Was doing it before Mark Knophler

  • Greatest break-up song ever.

  • One dislike? What is there to dislike? Nothing. Some people have no taste in good music..

  • All your lies are gonna tear at your dreams... never a truer word.

  • How can there be a "dislike" ??????

  • ONE OF THE GREATEST COMPOSERS OF POPULAR MUSIC, EVER!

IT IS CRIME THIS MAN IS NOT BETTER KNOWN!

  • @thebackendofabus ironic that you chose the word "popular"

  • This is on the top 10 of my favorite songs, and I like a LOT of stuff. Its sad and dead-on with life's circumstances.

  • and so incisive

  • to me it is like getting released from prison no tears

  • nice ! です.

  • One of very few truly original players. He's getting whang-bar effects without touching it. It's got nothing to do with his tone -- he'd sound like this on Byrdland or a PS3 controller.

  • "Can't cry if you don't know how, can't cry if you don't know how . . ."

  • Poet

  • Across a crowded room is raw, honest, and devastating.Didn't think guys were allowed to say what he said, song after song.Still not sure I'd have the guts to do it.

  • WOW , I been looking for this song for years ~so sad

  • @lilithwest It is from an albumn called "From Across a Crowded Room." I actually heard this song for the first time coming from an outside beer garden bandstand.

I looked it up at a record store later - no net in those days. The albumn is great. I actually think now it was him I heard preforming at Lil 5 Points in Atlanta.

  • Oh yeah!

  • Thanks Octahaberee. Why did I say Mississippi? Blind Boys of Alabama. Their new album is terrific, but this song of Richard's is the stand out track.

  • Love letters you wrote

Are pushed back down you throat

And leave you choking, when the spell is broken. Ouch, that is so painful.

  • Awesome song, fanstatic performance - and so it Bonnie Raitt's - with the Blind Boys of Mississippi - also sublime. Love that like about words you wrote...pushed back down your throat. Staggering lyrics.

  • Blind Boys of Alabama

  • What was I thinking!!! You're right of course.

  • Please, will someone put this out on DVD or Blu-ray???? I have this on VHS..Would like to see an uncut version of this concert on either dvd or blu-ray...Great song..

  • Yes, sad; all too true in life. Brilliant Writing as only RT can expose his heart, humanity,

End of love yet Lovely Song. Thnx 4 lyrics.

Have CD , yet watch this song over and over.

  • One of the saddest, most heartbreaking songs ever written.

  • @JackStraw65 Have you heard "Just the Motion" which he recorded with his ex-wife Linda? It gives me chills every time I hear it.

  • Brilliant ! This song has been one of my "cornerstones " for so long now.

Richard Thompson is a real artist , songwriter-/ guitarhero sadly underrated.

This song has it all ! Thanks R.T. for sharing this with us !
