Shelley Long has had a reputation of being difficult to work with. Kelsey Grammer wrote in his biography that she actively campaigned to get rid of his character on "Cheers" because she felt that her character belonged with Sam (Ted Danson) and didn't like the idea of a third person in the equation.
She wasn't particularly close with any of her fellow castmates on the show and rumour has it when she left the series in 1987 they were happy.
That being said, Bette could also be difficult as well
@woohooboy It was very big of them *both*, considering all that, to make an episode of "Frasier" together (with her reprising her role as Diane) many years later. Perhaps they put the differences behind them.
@Rudy61287 - You're right. Kelsey Grammer said that by the time Shelley Long did her guest stint on "Frasier", the two had put aside their differences and were on much friendlier terms...
Pity that Shelley's career kind of evaporated after the 80's. She continued to work steadily and even had a surprise box office hit in the mid 90's thanks to "The Brady Bunch Movie", but in the last ten years, things haven't gone so well for her. Hope she finds her second wind cause she is really good.....
I always remember when an actress guest-starring on 'The Golden Girls' said about Shelley Long, "I've never liked that uppity white woman anyway!" LMAO
wow talk about back tracking. she really didnt wanna dish any details to back up as to why she didn't wish to work with Long again. I guess Shelly Long is sort of a Diva from the way her co-stars speak of her.
Outrageous Fortune was filmed and released while Long was still on Cheers. But Long has a reputation for being a perfectionist and hard to work with. Her drug story didn't happen for another 20 years when she got divorced. I've also heard Middler can be difficult on set as well, so I'm sure the two divas just clashed.
I've never really liked Shelley Long, but I know Outrageous Fortune was filmed the year after she left Cheers. Wondering if thats why it was difficult to work with her...
Wow!! I'd love to know what she meant by that...was Shelley on drugs during that time? I know she was pretty messed up at one point, but if not I wish she would've just said why she didn't like working with her!
