MY favorite choice, however, is Brian DePalma's "The Fury". Oh, yeah! "The Fury"! That John Cassavettes guy, he blows up! He blows up real good! I like the part where Amy Irving is like, "Oh, I'm gonna make you blow up! Gonna make you blow up!" And John's hands are shaking, his veins are sticking out of his neck and his heart is palplatating and then HE BLOWS UP! He blows up REAL GOOD!

For those that don't know in this era there was a show called the "The farm report " that aired in Western Canada in the early morning that was just like the beginning of this parody. Makes it that much funnier.

I'm a teacher and I sometimes purposely talk or read with a thick southern accent. Then I ask the kids, "Am I any more/less intelligent that I was before?" I think they get the point.

Larry the Cable Guy is a character done by the performer, like The Diceman is for Andrew Clay Silverstein...its for the purpose of comedy/humour.

However, too many people take it seriously and buy into what is being said in jest.

Yeah, "Larry the Cable Guy" is actually from Nebraska. And, his early standup work was HORRIBLE. Then, he decided to act like a perfect Southern stereotype...and now, he's almost everywhere.

Pretty sad, most of his fans don't get that he is really making fun of them.

I treasured this show when it was first on TV. I knew, even then, that something like this doesn't come along very often (that turned out to be truer than I thought). I'm SO glad these are mostly out on DVD now.

The name of the Candy character Billy Sol Hurok was based on two men famous in the 1950s. Sol Hurok was an impressario who brought many foreign acts to the country, especially Russian acts he booked for the Ed Sullivan show. Billy Sol Estes was a Texan who swindled people out of millions in phoney investment schemes.
