You know, something in her voice that made me immediately fall in love with. I listened to her rendition of Qiuen Sera, Besame Mucho, Yesterday, and now Insensatez today. Her sultry, mellow voice just melted my heart away. I knew someone has made me feel this way before, and all evening long I tried to recall. I just got it; it's Sade - Smooth Operator more than 20 years ago. I love them both! Thanks much for sharing!
This is a classic Bossa Nova piece sung by one of the best. One thing I love here the most is how the sax works in with this piece supporting it and then stepping out to shine in its turn. I imagine that for a powerful instrument like a saxophone to harmonize with a soft voice and subtle guitar chordings is very hard to achieve. This guy is a true master.
I love Brazilian Jazz... nothing to do with her being Asian.. but her voice lacks something.... dunno... listen to Rosa Passos.... and then you will see..
@attractivefrenchguy Rosa Passos is just more technical with her singing of this song, using more pronounced vibrato, rubato, more diminuendo, more/longer pauses, etc. All that probably translates to her version sounding more "sexy" to some. Not that Lisa's voice lacks anything, she's just not using the same style.
Just more technical? Lisa Ono doesnt have and will never have the "aire." So your reply to me is laughable. How about Rosa Passos trying to sing traditional Japanese songs.. wonder how that would sound? Just as laughable... like a Thai girl in a Bangkok bar singing a Sammy Davis Jr song "I gotta be me" LMAO
@attractivefrenchguy By the comparisons you made, it just sounds like you think Lisa's accent is bad. In your first comment you said her voice lacks something. If what I described wasn't what she lacked, could you be more specific about "aire"? I like Rosa's version too, but could you be more specific? What exactly do you like about Rosa Passos' voice/singing? Her range? Her pacing? The way she accents certain notes and lets others fall? Just curious is all. What other bossa nova singers u like?
É muito bonito...! , o unico que me imagino ao escutar esta canção... é um mar luzido..., com tapete de estrelas e uma lua resplandeciente, amando a essa pessoa, sentindo seu calor muito de perto.. :)
Isn't that wonderful Sadao Watanabe on Alto? What a great paring...... Lisa will help heal universe with this singing like this...... keep on girl, forever........

The best version I have heard so far. The guitar sounds so blue and warm. Is anyone able to figure it out? I know the chords (more or less) but I am not able to find these beautiful notes.
Those Asians you see are Brazilians. Brazil has the largest Japanese diaspora in the world. There are circa 1.8 million Brazilians of Japanese stock, making them a pretty ample minority in Brazil. The Japanese began migrating to Brazil in 1908, so many of their descendants today are fourth and generation Japanese Brazilians.
Sorry: Bossa Nova. It's Brazilian. This wonderful movement in music and poetry was born in 1950's. It evolved in Brazil into MPB, or musica popular brasileira. Bo9ssa Nova is more famous abroad,
This is Bossa Nova, a brazilian style of saying words of love, a new style that appeared in the early 60's. Some said it was founded by António Carlos Jobim, Carlos Lyra, João Gilberto and so many others. It's beautiful!
Great singing. The sax did zilch for the song. Yeah I know, he's a major talent in Japan but the tone and overuse of vibrato was awful on this number.
Chopin would have smiled knowing that this beautiful song was inspired in one of his nocturnes. Lisa´s voice is silky smooth and blends nicely with the sax. Truly an exceptional interpretation....Thanks for posting!
@daqono Hey, daqono, do you really know that Chopin's nocturne which sounds like this song?! I'm begging you to write me how it's called! I'm crazy about this Jobim's song and it would be interesting to listen to prototype.
This is honestly the best version of this song I have heard. I have been a bossa nova fan since college, I am 28 now and have never heard something so sweet, pure, melancholy, and beautiful at the same time.
