Many cultures around the world practice this. In the Chinese internal styles it is the base, for many reasons. Some knowledge of Taoist cosmology will help to understand, some practice of it will help you know.
True, but I think it's important to have the proper posture when you're moving Qi through all the meridians and pathways in your body. Though there is certainly a level of meditation you can achieve with natural walking, even driving.
