  • Good and informative. I suggest using a 6 foot ladder vs. a 2 step in case it a hot wire were to bite you. Also, if you could hold the new box up to the camera for us to see what type/size you were installing. Otherwise, I think I can now replace my own chirpee. Kind Thanks!

  • @KYLESRANCH A 6 foot ladder would actually work the best so you can get right up there. I didn't tell what actual one I used as there are several choices (styles & name brands) you can pick from, at your local hardware store, & every store seems to not have the same ones. One type is only battery operated & the other type has a backup battery & is also connected to the hard wiring to a house. Make sure you get the right type. Thanks for commenting. Joe :0

  • Yep...all good. Put in a new one this morning. Def wasn't battery...had that same old detector since '92

  • @monkeycstars Great job! Thanks for the update. Joe :0

  • WHOA...our smoke alarm has been chirping for the last month. My dad couldn't figure out how to take it off the wall. He thought we just needed new batteries...but i have been watching these videos and realize that we need to replace the whole detector. Had ours since we bought the house in 1992...OVERDUE

i watched this video and figured out hoe to do it...got it off the wall...will get a new detector in the morning. THANKS ツ

  • @monkeycstars Are you sure it just doesn't need a battery replaced? Some detectors are wired into the electrical system & others are not. Make sure you check to see which type you have before purchasing a new smoke alarm detector. Thanks for your comments. Glad to see you are learning by watching 'joe'! :0

  • Don't batteries run out at the wrong time? I'm sure they do it on purpose. The amount of times I've taken it out of my rabbit is unbelieveable. I've just tried snapping it in, but it hasn't got to the back yet.....I've swivelled and twisted, but it won't work.....Please could you give me a hand?

    Thank you.

    Jennie.

  • @Kittielips Put it on & hold your mouth just right & I know can can screw it back on. Also make sure your battery is snapped-in in the right direction. Most smoke detectors will only let you put the battery in one way...that way you know it's in properly...but not the last one I did. I put the battery in & thought it was working then it didn't work. I pulled the battery out & had the positive side to the negative & visa versa. You do that, & the battery won't work...of course. Joe :0

  • @VideoJoeKnows

Now why didn't I think of that? So; once I find out it's failing, I put it in my mouth. Do I have to suck it, or merely roll my tongue around it? There's nothing worse than getting things back to front, is there? I prefer to be on top of matters. At least my Easter Bunny should soon feel better.

    Thank you for your advice.

    Jennie.

  • @Kittielips @videojoeknows. Hey why is the smoke detector not on the ceiling?? That Kittie should be by now I kicked her hard enough Joe.

  • @pussinboots34 Smoke detectors don't always have to be installed on a ceiling. The ceilings here are cathedral ceilings meaning they angle up & are not flat so all of the smoke detectors were installed on the walls instead. Thanks for your questions & comments. Joe :0

  • Awesome video! I've always wanted to know how to do that! : )

  • @cbfall Hey, thanks for watching. Now you know lol! Joe :0
